sha88 Posted August 12, 2005 #151 Share Posted August 12, 2005 How about this as a solution, Leave all those kids home! Okay, just kidding, I don't have kids, so probably shouldn't be posting at all. But, I just want to say that on our first cruise last month, there were plenty of teenagers and I have to say they were a real treat. Having so much fun and just seemed like they were enjoying themselves so much and not bothering anyone at all. I sure didn't see teenagers in the casino either. BlueSky Posted August 13, 2005 #152 Share Posted August 13, 2005 I returned today on the Voyager. I did not notice the underage drinking and gambling the poster talked about. My 18 year old son drank on the boat and he looks younger than he is. He was carded and he was checked on the RC list each time. Also, it is hard to tell if a drink is alcoholic by the look of it, unless it is beer.
mic328 Posted August 13, 2005 #153 Share Posted August 13, 2005 Just curious...are you sure the teens were not drinking virgin drinks? On cruises, our sons drink lots of pina coladas, Bahama mama's, etc, but none with a drop of booze.;) To be honest with you I am not sure, All I can say is the more drinks they had the more happier they were becoming. When my son was younger I would also order him virgin drinks and they always had an extra straw in them or something to tell them apart.
Merion_Mom Posted August 13, 2005 #154 Share Posted August 13, 2005 There's always "sugar hyperactivity" as an explanation. Also, the usual rush of being young and on a cruise, hanging out with brand-new best friends..............

Of Course they are going to Be so Careful Now Because the Week We were on is the week they had all the trouble with the Teens and Had to get 30 extra security cards to keep Up with them. I am glad mabey they learned now they have to take extra measures and Really keep on top of the underage drinking. Glad to hear they are shaping up. I still know I wont be back though There customer service stinks too....

cruiseguy456 Posted August 14, 2005 #158 Share Posted August 14, 2005 I just have to say for those that were sailing, it sounds like you had nothing to do and were bored to tears to even notice the hooligans. Granted, School is Out for the summer so the passenger age group sways a bit. VOS Aug 21. I'll see it for myself if I even notice it. Pretty much set in our daily routines as to when and where we go. The Professional Chair Hog has me concerned. The age of the OP was not listed which I believe has some bearing towards the complaints. The under age drinking issue has been beaten to a pulp. Which is more than I can say about the Orange Juice (drink) This will be our first out of season cruise (except for Canada last June, and who really wants to go there. Certainly not teens. So, basically pick your poison. OP did research but not enough to realize what he/she was in for.
hermang Posted August 14, 2005 #159 Share Posted August 14, 2005 If you are worried about safety - how about these tips: 1. Bring aboard your Guard Dog - Fang would love to cruise - especially when they are serving Filet Mignon - What do you mean No Doggie Bags <g>. Take him for a stroll at midnight - bet no one would bother you. 2. Hire Triple Canopy Services Ltd ( They guard the high profile guys in Iraq) 3. Go to the Spy Store in NYC and load up on James Bond stuff for your cabin Exploding brief cases and the like in case someone tries to break into your cabin. 4 On a more serious note - they do sell door alarms that can preven a break in

digital_curator Posted August 14, 2005 #162 Share Posted August 14, 2005 American Thanksgiving is the 24th of November I believe, so your first week might be busy....sorry:( But the week after should be fine:) Cheers,

The first week will NOT be a school holiday.

There were no problems with misbehaved children but there sure was a lot of them.
later Posted August 14, 2005 #165 Share Posted August 14, 2005 The sailings the week of 11/20 are the thanksgiving holiday week. Sailings the 25th are after the holiday. I would look for the week of 11/20 having many children expecially on voyager class ships, but I doubt the 11/25 cruises should have an over abundance of children. Who knows though. herecomesthesun Posted August 14, 2005 #166 Share Posted August 14, 2005 While a lot of kids only get an extra long weekend for Thanksgiving, some of their parents may take this as an excuse to pull them out of school for a longer period, so you probably will encounter more children on your cruise than during the normal school year. Mings Posted August 14, 2005 #167 Share Posted August 14, 2005 I forgot to say it is November 2006 but I assume the same advice applies. Thanks very much. Not that I mind children, I was one myself once, its just groups of drunk youngsters who cannot handle it does not appeal. We have been wondering why we were offered such a good deal ($2000 per adult for guaranteed balcony including flights from London to Miami and 2 weeks on VOS and of course the return flight home) but from what is being said school holidays may not be the reason. Thank you.

gurkleo Posted August 15, 2005 #169 Share Posted August 15, 2005 We celebrated our 25th anniversary on this ship and it was our first cruise. For the most part, it was great, The underage drinking was not a problem for us. What bothered us more was the fact that we left port late,, Our statemroom decorations were not there and either was the wine & cake that my parents ordered for us. some of the excursions, the shrimp cocktail was pretty sad, and the last day was not very good, but I would go again. The ship was clean and everyone seemed friendly and fairly well organized.
crb04 Posted August 15, 2005 #170 Share Posted August 15, 2005 I like Canada, thats a nasty comment............ Giving benefit of doubt and going to hazard a guess that it was a tongue-in-cheek comment regarding all the complaints re VOS Bermuda to Canada diversion. Would have to assume the poster did indeed WANT to go to Canada since paid for a cruise there...
nosnobunny Posted August 15, 2005 #171 Share Posted August 15, 2005 I like Canada, thats a nasty comment............ I think he was referring to a cruise that got re-routed to Canada rather than the scheduled Bermuda cruise. Unless you've been following that particular thread, you may not understand the sarcasm. I don't think there was any slight intended. Hey - if my cruise had been changed to Canada, I'd have been disappointed too. :p :D Beth

The question should be 'Who wouldn't want to go to Canada' Just for your information many people like and to cruise to Canada. If you had culture (which I'm now questioning) you'd love Quebec City. It's very much romantic and similar to a mini Europe. BD

happymomma Posted August 18, 2005 #174 Share Posted August 18, 2005 To Casey......Fellow Passenger to Sunny, Warm CANADA! I agree with everything you listed....and to add, our cabin steward was a total bum.....we had pre-tipped cuz we were traveling with a group so why would he care if he did his job or not? No kidding-he didn't even come to our room on the second day-we complained and he came knocking on our door to find out why we went to his supervisor....said not to do that no mo....we had no towel animals not that I care as I think it's stupid. Other guests were talking about how their steward woudl come check in on them, knew their name etc etc...our room wasn't even very clean when we got there. Our cruise had alot of unsupervised kids too....I couldn't believe it. I have four kids but I didn't travel with them and there is a reason for that!! I sure didn't like having to deal with others rude, obnoxious, spoiled brats and don't believe that is just part of it......everyone-paretns, kids, old folks-should behave themselves so everyone can have a good time. Food was not good........security gaurds? What are you talking about? There were none.....we encountered folks on deck smoking pot on more than one occasion. Toilets-worked about 1/2 the time. However, all that said, it was our first cruise and I found a way to enjoy anyway....the weather was dreadful but hey, I've not been to Canada either. And it isn't exactly true that the other cruise ships didn't encounter any problems in Bermuda.......they had very very sea sick patrons-this from their own website. I'd rather be cold than sick and miserable.
BonnieNYTX Posted August 18, 2005 #175 Share Posted August 18, 2005 Our cabin steward hardly stopped by our cabin when we were there but always had a smile when we passed him busy at work cleaning another cabin. He didn't have to be visible but our cabin was always clean when we returned from breakfast with a full bucket of ice every day. Our towels were changed after our showers and we always had our beds turned down, chocolates on the pillows and the towel animals you think are stupid. I was on a cruise in July when school was out. I encountered NO rude, obnoxious, spoiled brats. If people were out of control drunk I never encountered it. My safe was inoperable but was fixed promptly, my toilet didn't work once but was fixed quickly after one phone call. Food was ok to mediocre, there were chair hogs in abundance, the shows were just.. ok. But...I was on the Rhapsody!!!! Need I say more????????? You past Rhapsody goers know what I mean :p My cup was not half full. It was overflowing!
