Norwegian Cruise Line Bans Smoking on Balconies

I'm not saying the rules shouldn't be actively enforced. I'm just saying there are better ways to spend vacation time then busting people's chops.

Oh that's funny. But sorry um no. You can't break the non smoking rules

You think I should suffer a smoker breaking the rules rather than complain and expect the rules to be enforced on that rule breaking pax?

The "busting chops" comment is funny too. Reminds me of how the " cool seniors" used to speak back in high school. Lol

I can't believe this thread is still up!

Because it is a very serious and important issue on cruises that is why it is still here even with the both good and bad banter back and forth

Glad the mods understand that

The rules don't affect me b/c i am not a cigarette smoker. I'm just on the outside looking in here. The point i'm trying to make here is that saying you are going to complain about every non-playing smoker in the casino is impractical. What if the person smoking who doesn't appear to be playing was taking a break, looking for a new game, new slot, etc? Are you going to ask every single person whether they are playing or not.

Why don't we switch? Because:

a) we like the casualness of NCL

b) we've been loyal NCL cruisers for 20 years

c) NCL's CAS program takes good care of us.

I haven't been complaining. I'm fine with the rules as set. But I will be persisting to ensure they enforce the rules (around me) next time I sail. If I'm at the casino, and you're standing around smoking but not playing, I will most definately call somebody over.

It's not personal, but I lost my last 2 weeks of vacation to a severe smoking-induced bronchitis....and I won't have it, again.

.

Well like you (1) I like the freestyle of ncl (2) love my CAS perks and (3) the smoking doesn't bother me in the casino or elsewhere. So no need for me to switch. Because I'm not complaining. I directed what I said to the complainers.

My comment was for people who are still complaining about smoking on NCL.

You won't find me not playing in the casino I go through CAS like you.

Exactly what if someone has a cigarette in their hand and is walking to another machine. That won't work because the person reporting them will look like a fool.

I don't smoke. Never have. I think it's disgusting. HOWEVER, I have no problem with people smoking on their balconies. To each his own. I always get a kick out of the people who love to run to security and tell on others.. adult tattle tails, if you will. You know the type.. the ones that go screaming if a lounge chair was left unattended for 31 minutes, if a kid ends up in the adult pool/jacuzzi, the ones that complain how smokey the casino is. I've only been on 4 cruises, but I can't believe the amount of belly aching that goes on! You on VACATION people!! Enjoy it!! Early in my life something was told to me, and I'm going to share it with you all DON'T SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF!!! :D:D:D:D:D:D

Amazing isn't it? I bet some people book cruises just to find someone doing something wrong lol

So if you break the rules and someone calls you on it that falls under the category of busting chops? Perhaps there are better ways to spend a vacation THAN to think the rules do not apply to you and forcing those who abide by the rules to have to deal with it however they see fit.

omg....... I can just bet he/she was the one that always volunteered to be the hall monitor in grade school!!!

Cracking up big time....... he,he,he!

And, btw, I'm a non-smoker. But I sure ain't no hall monitor!!! Never was never will be. LOL!

And why exactly should I pay for a balcony room and then have to smell the smoke of someone on the next balcony smoking? Why should my clothes smell like their cigarettes? Why should that smell invade my room?

It isn't belly aching when someone else is willfully violating the rules and in so doing negatively impacting my ability to enjoy my cruise!

Belly aching is complaining about not getting enough dessert because you weren't assertive enough to order more!!

Cigs smell, no denying that, but someone smoking on a nearby balcony isn't going to make YOUR clothes smell, let's be realistic here.

On my last cruise on Carnival security did enforce it . If you were not sitting or standing and playing they made you leave the Casino .I saw several people told to leave the Casino who were walking with a cigarette and an ashtray.

Actually, before Princess banned balcony smoking I had not one, but two times where both my wife and I had to have garments cleaned on the ship because of smoke from the balcony next door. I am not hyper sensitive to smell, but given the close quarters it made my formal wear absolutely stink, even the next morning.

Can't argue with that if that is the case, good to see another princess cruiser though, love that cruise line

Well if their walking with an ash tray that's kinda a give away. Dumb person. But seriously what if a person REALLY is moving from one machine to a machine across the way don't you think that person is gonna say I'm just moving. Let's say the security says ok and the person doesn't go to a machine well then they gotta go but if they are going to another machine let the security guard see you put money in the machine.

The problem I have is someone sitting at a machine to really just smoke and plays very minimum very slowly that's not right but what is someone gonna do? Tell on them? They can't because they are not breaking the rules. We may not like it but nothing can be done.

I'm not the kind of gambler that will wait for a machine. If someone is doing this on a machine I wanted to play, I would simply leave and not spend my money in the casino.

I would agree if someone we not even near a machine, just standing in a corner smoking that the staff should be notified of the rule breaker. But if someone is at a machine with their card in a slot and money in the machine, they are playing no matter how long between pulls they take so I hope you ask in some polite way if the person is playing before you decide to call the staff over otherwise it will be very embarrassing for you.

That would be unusual because on Carnival, you can smoke at the casino bar without playing in the casino. At most they would have told them to please move over to the bar, not to leave.

Remember that when NCL sets up a temporary smoking area. :D

I would be upset by that only if it forced a non smoker who was there first to leave but I assume any reasonable smoker would be considerate of the non smoker. Just common courtesy and decency.

One must assume, yes assume, that we still have those traits.

It is foolish to argue otherwise

Carnival does have a playing / smoking rule in place but in my experience in Carnival casinos, doesn't enforce it. After a show lets out, that place is packed with standers. Especially if its cool/cold and breezy on the open decks.

And in the busy times (evenings) especially if it's tournament times, it is really difficult to get many open machines so there are always those standing around just waiting for some machines to open up. So there are standers then as well.

Come November 1 how many offenders do you actually think we are going to run into? You need to take into account that not all cruisers visit CC and may not be fully aware of the casino rules as us CCers are. I would think they would have new signs put up. Will be interesting to see how many come back here to gloat about tattling.

I have had 4 balcony rooms, and have even had smokers next to be, and have never once had my clothes "smell like their cigarettes" like I said, to each his own! When I'm on vacation I look to relax, and enjoy myself. I have an EXTREMELY stressful job.. I'm a happy-go-lucky person, I guess. I don't let little things bother me. If I'm in the adult jacuzzi and a kid jumps in, my vacation isn't ruined. If I'm in the adult pool, and a kid jumps in, my vacation isn't ruined. I understand everyone is different, but I choose to not let little things bother me. You have every right to complain every time you see a violation of the rules, I choose to kick back, and sip my drink with a smile on my face :D:D:D
