Has the Grand Buffet/brunch really been cancelled

I think it has. There was none on our recent Solstice trip in April. It has been replaced by theme buffets based on where the ship is sailing. We had a USA./Canada one, a Hawaiian one and another that had sushi, chocolate fountain and other things not normally in the regular buffet, a little like the old grand buffet.

We were on Reflection in the Med in May, and no grand brunch buffet. I also don't remember any themed buffets. We were sailing to Greece and Italy, we didn't see any special meals or buffets related to those countries.

CathyCruises: please explain tipping/gratuities/service charge:rolleyes:

Wouldn't touch it with a 10' pole!

But it WOULD be lovely to hear less complaining; the boards have gotten downright depressing to read. I come on here to get and hopefully give tips/advice/suggestions, not to partake in the whining and moaning that seems to be so prevalent lately!!

I actually don't miss the grand brunch buffet, too crowded and chaotic, better food is available elsewhere in the ship. But I do think one function of these boards is to give feedback, and we know someone from Celebrity is reading because they post sometimes. It seemed to work with the loud music debate, recent reports say that has been toned down considerably.

Hi Cindy!

I agree with you, I do not mind the demise of the buffet at all. I always ended up having exactly what I would have eaten in the Oceanview Café, with maybe a few shrimp thrown in. Not worth the crowds, hassle, etc. I guess if your cruise revolves around a chocolate fountain, it would be an issue, but I have never found there to be a lack of food on board. By that time in the cruise, I am pretty sick of eating-as-sport anyway!

Since the music issue was not revenue-sensitive, I can see how feedback would have an impact. But whatever the real reason for canceling the brunch, I'm sure the effect on the bottom line means it's pretty much a done deal. I understand that people need to vent--but it would be nice if they could all do it on the same simultaneous thread!

Just returned from Millie in Alaska and no grand buffet.

we were told that apparently its a health and safety issue! carpets in the dining room having a buffet, heat etc etc.

Does that mean they are closing the MDR for the other 3 meals, too? This one reason beats all the rest. What a JOKE!!!

Get Real Celebrity.

RC has breakfast and lunch buffets in the MDR all the time.

Does anyone else remember a few years back when Celebrity had something called "Gourmet Bites" or similar? At a certain time, late in the evening (11 pm or so), waiters would pass through the busy public areas with trays of hors d'oeuvres and small sweets. I loved that -- we might be in the casino or sitting in a lounge, and all of a sudden a white gloved waiter would appear offering a bite to eat. Wish it would return but I suppose it was joined in neverland by the grand brunch buffet.

Yes, they did that when they eliminated the midnight buffets if I remember correctly, it was really nice.
