Anyone ever see kids in DL?

Recommended Posts

I hear a lot about kids in the CL but has anyone ever seen them in the DL? If so was it in the morning or in the evening? If in the evening was it when they had to use another venue because of too many diamonds onboard?

during the day they ARE allowed in. it is only during the evening cocktail hour that they may not be permitted( as has been said, the Concierge has discretion) to stay and take up a seat.

Yes, the last time we were on the Freedom we had a letter in our room that said kids were allowed in there during happy hour as long as they were accompanied by an adult.

Oh that would be nice! When we sailed Concierge the kids (teens) came with us every night to play cards and have a drink and appetizers before dinner (DS enjoyed a soda)--we really enjoyed that time (and unlike a PP, I have no issues having a drink around a child, nor do I have an issue with my children seeing people drinking; they have grown up visiting vineyards, having wine on the table at dinner, etc; never a big deal in our family at all).

I doubt we will get such a letter on our next cruise, when I expect a huge number of D or higher cruisers, but it sure would be nice, so I will keep my fingers crossed (since they will be Diamonds in their own right).

Looks like this has changed. We also had the stateroom letter welcoming children accompanied by parents during cocktail time. Our sailing was in Europe on Splendour, the other poster reported it on Freedom (so FL).

It isn't how well behaved they are to me. Some adults on cruises are much worse than kids. It is just that feeling like your going to a bar and don't want to be drinking around kids. Not the influence I want to have on the young but I'm on vacation and I'm gonna have several drinks. Nothing against minors I just think for those few hours it is an adult activity environment. I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks that way but I know others disagree. I'll be get my drinks there kids or not however.

Seems to me that their parents can decide if it is acceptable for their kids to see adults consuming alcohol or not (besides, it is served all over the ship--it would be hard NOT to have your kids see it on a cruise if you had an issue with it).

I guess one could say that about the casino and night clubs. I guess it is all just where society chooses to draw the line.

True. But in a space that is intended for Diamond members and open to Diamond members at all other times, it feels odd to exclude children who are Diamond members for just that time frame; odder yet to do so because some people apparently feel uncomfortable having a drink in the presence of a child who is not theirs

I can certainly enjoy adults only venues like the solarium or night club but those are venues designed for all adults and they remain that at all times (with some rare exceptions, like allowing children in the Solarium pools in inclement weather, etc).

If you are a responsible drinker the influence you have on any young people around you is a positive one. When all a child sees throughout their lives are people over-indulging on TV and in movies (Toga, Toga, Toga!) then they turn legal drinking age and think that drinking is all about getting wasted. Seeing 95% of the patrons enjoying one or two adult beverages responsibly is a good thing -- and even seeing how stupid the other 5% look and act can be a good thing.

Much of the reason there is so much of a drinking problem among teens and pre-teens is that we make it look "cool" by making it so taboo.

When we sailed on the Serenade in February, we brought our 7 year old daughter to the DL before the Adventure Ocean was open for the evening. Our server would make her a Shirley Temple, and our daughter enjoyed some of the snacks. We kept her on a tight leash, and she was pretty good. We have to be vigilant in a venue like that because not everyone will agree that she is the perfect child. :D

We enjoy both the CL and DL and rarely have noticed children. On our Allure Cruise last year one evening they moved the CL evening to the Crown Lounge. It was wonderful... we found a couple of seats near the windows and were enjoying our cocktail. About 45 minutes into a perfect evening a couple with their 3 year old little girl came and sat next to us. When she started smashing the cheese and munchies into the furniture and the carpet and the parents did nothing... we left. She had a few little tantrums and was obviously tired. I don't blame her... It was totally inappropriate for her parents to bring her to the lounge. They also explained they had no control over her... which was obvious. I wish them all the luck... but I do not think they should have brought her to the lounge.

Our DD (12) who is D+ in her own right uses the DL for breakfast and afternoon when requiring a drink.

She does not come in the evening with us when it is cocktail time.

Happy Days!

Here is DD manning the desk on a quiet day...

And yes it was early after breakfast :)

Same here, only at breakfast time and during the day, not the evening.

IMO lounges & bars are not the proper venue for young children. I do not want any children under 18 no matter how well behaved they are in either the DL or CL.

Sorry but children are allowed in the CL as suite or D+ (and Pinnacle although that status level may be rare) cruiser's. The DL seems to have some flexibility based on the concierge and reasons known only to them on each particular cruise...(yes...I know what the RCI policy is) but with more and more families with status in the C&A traveling...perhaps this is one of the reasons for the new voucher program...Sounds like that option would work out great for you. Enjoy your next cruise.

Yes, they are trying to be very family friendly. And they want cruising to be 'more accessible', as they put it.

Don't be sorry I know what what RCI policy is but I do not have to like it. I should of clarified my post to state no children during cocktail hours. I do enjoy all of my cruises. Edited by FLACRUISER99

We have a 23 month old and have utilized the concierge lounge on both of our cruises in which we were in a suite. Now that we have made Diamond status, she will join us in the DL. They encourage parents to make sure that children under 18 are accompanied by their parent and that they are well behaved. She was actually the highlight of the lounge!:)

LIKE:)

RC understand, our children will be future cruisers (future revenue)$$$

Once CL is for Suite guests only all the kid haters can enjoy the 3 drink vouchers in any other bar.

Just because someone thinks the DL should be adults only during happy hour doesn't mean they are kid haters. Jeez already. What a ridiculous comment. There are perfectly valid reasons for the opinion and until my last cruise it was the posted policy. To each their own but get over it with the kid hater comments.
