bunnybear Posted July 18, 2014 #1 Share Posted July 18, 2014 We will be staying one day pre-cruise at Banks Mansion in Amsterdam. For those that have stayed there - what is the best way to get there from the airport? We are interested in a canal cruise, the Anne Frank House and possibly the Dutch Resistance Museum. Does anyone have anything to share about transportation from this hotel to these spots or suggestions of what is not to be missed. Thank you for your assistance in advance. Of course the best way is a cab for around E. 50,- (or a bit more). 2nd choice the Connexxion shuttle: http://www.schipholhotelshuttle.nl/ Amsterdam is a compact city, forget about shared transportation. Either walk or take one of the many trams or buses. http://en.gvb.nl/pages/home.aspx ABSOLUTELY make on line reservations for Anne Frankhouse. Lines are often extremely long. For people with reservations there is a special entrance door. If no reservation go either very early or very late during the day. Canal cruises are one of the nicest way to see the ciy. If interested visit Rijksmuseum (Rembrandt etc.) and/or van Goghmuseum, or even Hermitage (http://www.hermitage.nl/en/). Also here better to make reservations online. Also interesting Rembrandthuis, a drink on one of the terraces on Rembrandtsplein. Morte about Amsterdam here: http://www.iamsterdam.com/en-GB/Experience\\ Recently somebody posted on one of the other boards some photos etc. about Amsterdam. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2069025 Edited July 19, 2014 by Ine
bunnybear Posted July 20, 2014 Author #4 Share Posted July 20, 2014 We are studying the map of the city to plan out our brief visit. I will definitely order our tickets online for the Ann Franke house.
bunnybear Posted July 22, 2014 Author #5 Share Posted July 22, 2014 From the Banks Mansion - what is the best way to get to the docks. I have seen several comments about taking the tram and then walking but want to hear other's opinions. We will have four pieces of luggage and a backpack between the two of us - and I want to make the trip the most efficient and stress free as possible. Our trip last year to Venice - we arrived on the only afternoon in two years that the Grand Canal was closed for the regatta! We had to walk for miles to get to our hotel over the canal bridges. I don't want a repeat of that ordeal.

Remember some trams can be rather full and besides pickpockers love people with much luggage .

lottapud1 Posted July 25, 2014 #11 Share Posted July 25, 2014 We stayed at the Banks Mansion and loved it. It was a great location and you an walk to everything. We took a cab from the ship to the hotel. It seemed extra long but that was because of the narrow streets and the traffic. It is really a pedestrian and bicyclist's city. It really isn't far from the dock but cab is the best as the trolleys do fill up. As far as the Anne Frank House and the Dutch Resistance Museum. Both were great. Took the Trolley to Anne Frank House. The house was very moving. Also did a great walking tour with Peter. His email is info@historywalks.eu. It was fascinating and is rated in top 3 tours on Trip Advisor. Also did a cheese and wine tasting (also on TA). The cheese was delicious and learned how they make their Dutch Gouda.
