gatorguy56 Posted July 24, 2014 #26 Share Posted July 24, 2014 We booked our balcony guarantee at $999 including port taxes and $50 obc last year. I don't know if we'll ever be able to match that kind of deal again, but it sure was fun. Since we wanted to book side by side balconies this year as we're traveling with our dd and dsil, I knew we couldn't play the wait for a lower price game. bigenna Posted July 24, 2014 #27 Share Posted July 24, 2014 Pacific Princess Alaska cruise, R/T Vancouver July 1-8 For first time ever, we booked on a sale (399+tax) inside guarantee IF. One month before the cruise. Like you I was checking repeatedly often more than once a day, days ticking by, categories filling up, and still no assignment. Finally, four days prior to sailing, it appeared - a balcony on deck 7 aft. So it can be worth the suspense. But I realize that we were very lucky and do not count on it happening again. Friends who were sailing with us and booked at the same time also got their assignment late like us and were awarded an ocean view.

snrlnd Posted July 24, 2014 #29 Share Posted July 24, 2014 I almost always book a guarantee balcony and have never been disappointed. Once we were nearly all the way forward which was our least favorite but the vast majority of the time we received the highest or nearly the highest balcony category as an "upgrade". Anticipation is part of the fun
kruisey Posted August 10, 2014 Author #30 Share Posted August 10, 2014 It was assigned same category high up towards front certainly not my choice for a Transatlantic winter month cruise. I do have a handicap( Use a cane now) and phoned Princess who have given me a lower deck mid aft in the same category. Was my experiment after 21 cruises with Princess good ?What do you think ?:p I know you will say 'I told you so' It is disappointing though when you wait several months to receive a cabin in a less favourable position than one you could have picked yourself in the first instance. Thats why you need to pick the cabin you want in the first place.
Bemidji Ty Posted August 10, 2014 #32 Share Posted August 10, 2014 My wife and I have sailed 50+ cruises. We always book guarantee. Most of the time we get what we've paid for but we have received some incredible upgrades. Sometimes the day before the cruise and after we've been assigned a cabin. My position is, "Get me on the ship. Give me a beer. And I'm on vacation" Smooth sailing.
kruisey Posted August 10, 2014 Author #33 Share Posted August 10, 2014 When I changed my booking to a Guarantee the mid aft inside cabins cost a little bit more than the mid forward ones .That is why I thought that at least I would get that area.Later on Princess changed the mid forward to the same price at the mid aft ones. That was after I had changed my booking to Guarantee. So that is what they gave me a mid forward on a high deck which I did not want with my mobility problem on a winter Transatlantic crossing:eek: I have remembered this after the fact so I think I will get back to Princess about this tomorrow. What do you think?
