drtravel47 Posted July 30, 2014 #1 Share Posted July 30, 2014 (edited) I'm sailing the QM2 in a few weeks and hope the sailing is a lot better than many of the reviews here on CC. As for the 'dress code after 6', can anyone explain how this works in practice? I've done many cruises and usually work out twice a day, once before breakfast and once before dinner (late seating) How does one get to and from the gym or jog after 6 in gym clothes? Am I supposed to wear my tux while jogging :) or when lifting weights at 7pm???? Because I wouldn't be showering and dressing for dinner until after 730, what do late seating pax do? Ideas? Lanky Lad Posted July 30, 2014 #2 Share Posted July 30, 2014 I am sure no one will be too bothered if they see you heading back to your cabin looking like you have just come out of the gym.
Rare Scrapnana Posted July 30, 2014 #3 Share Posted July 30, 2014 You shouldn't need to go through public areas (bars, restaurants, theater, casino, etc) to get to the gym so no problem.
pepperrn Posted July 30, 2014 #4 Share Posted July 30, 2014 (edited) Please do not worry about this drtravel47, Almost every evening on board QM2 after 6pm I have noticed people dressed casually (very occasionally in gym clothes) in the cabin corridors. How else would they get to/from the gym, spa, out on deck, Winter Garden, buffet? No-one will object I promise you. (Photographs of QM2's interiors, including the gym, via the link below, I hope they help) Have a great time and please remember that some of the Greatest Moaners on this board, and the "worst cruise" review writers on CC, are also some of the most loyal repeat passengers  (so it can't have been that bad, can it?) Bon Voyage! :) Edited July 30, 2014 by pepperrn
jimmybean Posted July 30, 2014 #5 Share Posted July 30, 2014 There is a difference between going cabin to gym and hanging around a public area, going to the theater, or sitting in the Chart Room bar.... There are stairs (and elevators) right outside the gym. No need to pass through any public areas on the way to your deck and cabin. The dress code isn't mean to be intimidating or beyond common sense. BUT, people (in my experience) do comply and (in my opinion) should. My dear husband is also a regular in the gym on shipboard---doesn't miss a single day. Great mural on the wall by the treadmills! Have a wonderful time onboard! Like Richard & I, you'll have adequate time to get ready for dinner. We usually do the gym & shower before we had early seating.

brigittetom Posted July 31, 2014 #8 Share Posted July 31, 2014 I agree. Lots of passengers, including us, book second seating so we can watch sail always and not have to be dressed for dinner until around 8.
Rare Keith1010 Posted July 31, 2014 #9 Share Posted July 31, 2014 You can easily go to and from the gym and your room and just walk on the passenger deck and avoid public areas. Keith

Keith And if the Decks are closed due to weather !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Really this is a problem that does not exist, If you do not wish to walk through public areas, then just walk down the stairs from Deck 13 to Deck 12 etc and walk along the stateroom corridors. The Fashion Police would be showing their intolerance if they rebut a fellow passenger in gym kit. Funny how once on board and away from the keyboard and face to face the majority of all passengers are all smiles..:D Edited July 31, 2014 by Pennbank

But it really is easy to get to the gym via the passenger decks so that is what I would do. Keith

As suggested, you can get to and from your workout areas without causing a problem. However, you might consider the tux, you certainly would be the best dressed in the gym and you may start a new trend! :D
sarafinadh Posted July 31, 2014 #14 Share Posted July 31, 2014 (edited) No worries! Just make sure your black gym shorts have the de rigueur stripe on the side!! And these of course; Edited July 31, 2014 by sarafinadh
drtravel47 Posted August 1, 2014 Author #15 Share Posted August 1, 2014 You shouldn't need to go through public areas (bars, restaurants, theater, casino, etc) to get to the gym so no problem. I wouldn't do that anyway! I need to cause attention to myself. One of the unusual things you see on any cruise is people dressed informally in the elevators at the same time others are dressed for dinner. Especially if they dress for dinner at 5pm LOL

Salacia Posted August 1, 2014 #21 Share Posted August 1, 2014 Personally, I'll take the elevator if I'm tired....I'm on Deck 5. Now you see, that's something I don't understand...passengers go to the gym, work out (which is admirable) but afterwards, being all sweaty, which is inherent in a good workout - use the elevator rather than using the stairs? Why is that? Seems to me that using the stairs which could be incorporated into an exercise routine as a 'cool down'? -S
