sjoantwe Posted August 3, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 3, 2014 What cruise lines concentrate on Japan?
Kamloops50 Posted August 3, 2014 #2 Share Posted August 3, 2014 Princess is the only company as far as I know that concentrates on Japanese markert during the summer and fall. The Diamond and Sapphire Princess's have been moved and refurbished for the Asia , China and Japanese markets. There are s few local cruise lines but they are mostly short gambling cruises for the Chinese Market.
1982CruzStart Posted August 4, 2014 #3 Share Posted August 4, 2014 Celebrity does a cruise around Japan as well as one that goes to 4 ports in Japan with a stop in Taiwan, Shanghai and ends in Hong Kong. We are on the latter one in October 2015.
travellovers2 Posted August 5, 2014 #4 Share Posted August 5, 2014 We're taking the Diamond Princess in October. It sails out of Yokohama and goes around Japan and one port in South Korea.
Alessandrina Posted August 7, 2014 #5 Share Posted August 7, 2014 Diamond Princess, Princess Cruises is doing Japanese cruises out of Yokohama. We were just on three back-to-back cruises, all different itineraries, with the exception of repeat calls in Busan, South Korea and Nagasaki, on two of those cruises. One call was also Korsakov, Sahkalin, Russia. Great experience! Cheers.
goody1 Posted August 15, 2014 #6 Share Posted August 15, 2014 We were in Nagasaki on the Diamond Princess in July and the Costa Victoria was also in port. Funnily enough this was the only other cruise ship that we saw on the whole cruise.
Floridiana Posted August 17, 2014 #7 Share Posted August 17, 2014 Compagnie du Ponant offers several cruises around Japan. We booked a cruise that has no Tauck Passengers aboard, but you could book with Tauck for a more Americanized experience on one of the Ponant Japan cruises. BruceMuzz Posted August 20, 2014 #9 Share Posted August 20, 2014 Princess is the only company as far as I know that concentrates on Japanese markert during the summer and fall. The Diamond and Sapphire Princess's have been moved and refurbished for the Asia , China and Japanese markets. There are s few local cruise lines but they are mostly short gambling cruises for the Chinese Market. It is true that there are several local Japanese cruise lines that concentrate on Japan. Orient Venus, Asuka, Peace Boat, and Nippon Maru are the best known companies. But it is NOT true that they are short gambling cruises for the Chinese market. Some of the ships I listed above do not even have casinos onboard. They cater almost entirely to the Japanese Market. Food, entertainment, announcements, printed materials, tours, and other offerings are generally all Japanese. Orient Venus, Asuka, and Nippon Maru also do world cruises every year. Asuka II is the original Crystal Harmony. The parent company of Asuka is NYK (Nippon Yusen Kaisha), the owners of Crystal Cruises. Star Cruises in Singapore occasionally offers cruises to Japan for the Chinese Market. Royal Caribbean and HAL also have ships sailing around Japan part of the year. SPKR Posted August 31, 2014 #11 Share Posted August 31, 2014 Any feedback as to whether or not I need to get Yen before leaving America would be appreciated. We are doing the October Diamond princess going from Tokyo to Hong Kong. suzie
Bowie MeMe Posted August 31, 2014 #12 Share Posted August 31, 2014 If you had a little yen might help but most times now, we just go to ATM. I could recognize the ATM even without English help. We had JPY from our youngest daughter's business trip. :D First time ever that our child gave us money!! Seriously it was helpful when had to cab back from bus tour because of noro onset !!:(. Usually though just ATM if going to be there awhile and otherwise if have guide ask for their help. In Hiroshima I think there were ATMs in the cruise terminal. That is all for my Japanese experience but in Feb. will spend over a week there after a cruise Bali to Osaka.
TFCRUISER Posted September 2, 2014 #13 Share Posted September 2, 2014 Any feedback as to whether or not I need to get Yen before leaving America would be appreciated. We are doing the October Diamond princess going from Tokyo to Hong Kong. suzie I took some Yen when we went last year. Turned out it was not necessary flying into Narita. If you fly into Narita, there are Seven Bank ATM's just past passport control that you can get yen before leaving the airport. Same company as 7-11 Japan. There are 7-11s everywhere and they all have ATM's that take US debit cards. Tom
