vacation_junkie Posted August 6, 2014 #51 Share Posted August 6, 2014 Some of us don't like being coralled up on Coco Cay or Labadee. If you don't particularly want to go to the beach those stops could be considered a waste too. Exactly. My DH is not a beach go-er and while we enjoyed Castaway Cay on our last cruise he did not. We rarely do excursions when we cruise we usually just sight see and shop around the ports. Sent from my iPad using Forums
Sky616 Posted August 6, 2014 #52 Share Posted August 6, 2014 Definition Of Nassau Complete waste of time and money. Not enough time to do anything worthwhile while in port' date=' I really wish RCCL would consider changing their itineraries and visit Coco Cay or Labadee, instead of this port. Don't get me wrong, great port if you have the time to do something worthwhile, otherwise a WASTE.[/quote'] Yes it could be nice to visit Labadee but there is no way they could go there and still visit St. Thomas and St. Maarten and make it back to Port Everglades in seven days. Labadee is on the western route. Never been to Coco Cay but hear it is missed many times due to weather/ high seas.

Then you had better do it this season coming up as I think it is the last one for Indy doing the 8 nighter. I'm not sure if another ship will pick it up or not but I don't think so. cruisegirl1 Posted August 6, 2014 #57 Share Posted August 6, 2014 Looks like we are in the minority when it comes to Nassau. We've been there countless times ( probably at least 30) and still get off the ship to do something. It might be stop at a bar, go to the beach, snorkel, visit Atlantis, have lunch ( or dinner) , see a sight, visit a casino, etc. We know the bus system better than the bus system in our home city and can easily get around in Nassau. Seems we will have the town to ourselves on the next cruise as so many report that they stay on board. M

We had to choose between the Daquiri Shack and the Fish Fry. Rather do both, or even add Potter's Cay, but not enough time.

Rare BillOh Posted August 6, 2014 #65 Share Posted August 6, 2014 (edited) Labadee is on the western route. Never been to Coco Cay but hear it is missed many times due to weather/ high seas. Labadee used to be part of some eastern itineraries, but I think they have to go a little faster to make all the ports and that cost more. My first cruise was Miami to St Thomas, San Juan, and Labadee with a Sea Day going back to Miami on Voyager. The San Juan stay was short, something like the stay's at Nassau. I'm considering doing the B2B on Majesty if the rumored last voyage occurs. That would be 2 visits to Nassau in one cruise, however, at least on Majesty there is enough time to do something. Take the #10 (not 10A!) bus to Cable Beach. Tell the driver Daquiri Shack. Takes 10-15 minutes. Costs $1.25 each way.

hmm33502 Posted August 6, 2014 #73 Share Posted August 6, 2014 I agree also. We've never been to Nassau on our 5 cruises and would be disappointed if we missed it on our November 29 Oasis cruise. I've read lots of negative comments on Nassau on here. I guess we will be the judge of that in November. Not many people like Jamaica either but we love it. OP: Sorry about missing a port! We are on the Allure in a few days and I'm really hoping that we don't have the same issues! My last trip to Nassau, I got to swim with sharks so I think Nassau is pretty fun, but I really haven't been to a port that I just didn't like. OllieMom Posted August 9, 2014 #75 Share Posted August 9, 2014 Even though I am not a huge fan of the Bahamas, I would be quite upset if I missed out on it on an upcoming cruise. For some people, visiting the Caribbean and/or Bahamas is a lifetime aspiration - it's something a lot of people work for. Also, I regularly hear something like "If it's good enough for the celebrities, there has to be something there worth going for." I try and use this mentality every time I go on vacation / get off the ship in certain ports. We are very lucky really. Sent from my iPhone using Forums I like your comment. It's also important for cruisers to realize that to color the Bahamas with just Nassau or Freeport as your point of reference is extremely sad. The beaches in the Out Islands are to die for and far exceed what the big cruise stop islands have to offer. However, Nassau's Paradise Island beach is a lovely place to spend an afternoon, although it may be crowded, it gives someone on a cruise their first taste of the beauty beyond the popular islands. The Out Islands offer miles of gorgeous beaches all to yourself. I keep wishing for an excursion that could take me to nearby Eleuthera or Harbour Island and get me back to the ship on time!
