Spray Tan on Carnival Aust. Ships.

Hi, Does anyone know whether you can get a spray tan on the carnival spirit and if so how much are they?

I will probably be booking the Carnival legend but I would guess if the spirit has it well the legend will in aust' Regards Zanny:)

Every ship I have been on offers them through the day spa/beautician however they are usually quite expensive. Going on the Spirit in three weeks so I could tell you for certain then :D

I have never done it again and don't recommend it to anyone. I just embrace my paleness now."

 

I had one on my very first cruise, never again! :o Unless you are a regular tanner that is :)

I have never had one done on a cruise, however I always get one done the day before the cruise. I moisturise well morning and night and I get around 7 days of a nice looking tan before I start to develop a natural one myself anyway. If it's not nice weather I top up with a self tanning cream around the 7 day mark. I swim at all ports and in the pool as well if the weather is nice.

I often have a spray tan before going on a holiday. Haven't cruised yet but have had a couple of trips up to Queensland where I've swum in pools all the time. I've never had a problem with the spray tans and they have faded very nicely and been replaced by a light natural tan.

 

However it is very important that:

1. You find a good, reliable spray tan operator. Have one a few weeks before your cruise to ensure that you are happy with the result. The tan should be even with no streaks.

2. Don't ask for a dark tan, a light to medium tan (depending on skin type) will look good without looking too orange.

3. Exfoliate all over the night before, and moisturize well afterwards. Have a quick shower at least an hour before going for your tan.

4. Wear loose dark clothing after your tan. If possible don't wear a bra, and just wear a disposible g-string under your clothing.

5. Ensure you allow the correct amount of time before showering again, so that the tan has time to develop.

6. Moisturise really well after every shower.

 

I usually try to schedule a spray tan first thing in the morning. Then it has all day to develop and I can shower before going to bed.

 

I don't think I'd want to have a spray tan during a cruise as it would really restrict what I could do that day.

I wasn't aware that someone had to go on a cruise to have some knowledge about a spray tan.:(

 

Or look at it this way, I have done 11 cruises and am only guessing what a spray tan is.

I know lots who have sailed on Spirit but none of us are 'spray tan' people so sorry I couldn't be more helpful :D

No, I haven't cruised yet but I have travelled extensively. Some things are the same whether you travel on land or on water. Getting certain types of beauty treatments, like spray tans, from operators you have never tried before is a risk whether it be on a cruise ship or a five star hotel.

Thanks - actually, it doesn't list it on there. Given they list other things like the spin cycling, waxing and teeth whitening it seems to be comprehensive, so may not be able to count on them having it.

 

That said, it is over a year and a half old though, so things may have changed too.

Most of the cruise ships are coming from USA originally. Last time I was in Las Vegas (it was 2010) I could not find a single place to get a spray tan, believe it or not :confused:

 

When I asked a few places about it, they said that the Americans are not as concerned with the "bronzed" look like we are here in Australia. I know the media/magazines don't give that impression, but one visit to the casino pool confirmed what I had been told. They seemed to embrace their paleness. Wish I was confident enough to do the same :o.

The spray tans I get before going on holidays where I'm likely to be seen in a swimsuit aren't really bronzed. They just provide a gentle glow to get rid of that winter whiteness which really doesn't look as good on my 60+ year old body as it does on younger folk. ;)

I just use my own fake tan. Top up every 2nd day when on the ship, after my morning shower.

 

In ozkiwijj's defence, I have only cruised 1x and used my fake tan extensively on that cruise. My knowledge of fake tanning did NOT increase exponentially after my cruise, so I can only assume that oz's knowledge of spray tans will stay consistent after their first cruise i.e. at their current pre-cruise level! ;)

 

I am however, talking about fake tan out of a tube that you rub in by hand, which is different to spray tanning. This may mean that spray tanning knowledge may be impacted by cruising journeys. Mine didn't. :rolleyes: I'm still clueless about spray tanning and I've cruised so don't hold your breathe anyone!!!:p

Yes, fake tans from creams are quite different from spray tans. I've never used a cream tan, I'm always worried I'd apply it unevenly and end up looking weird. ;)

 

Spray tans take time to develop although the solution also contains a bronzer that gives you instant colour, although I suspect it's there more so the operator knows where they have sprayed. ;) The bronzer washes off during the first shower after the spray tan. However while it's on your body it gets on everything that you touch or brush against so you need to wear clothing that is loose and covering. It doesn't stain permanently though.

 

So with a spray tan you have to allow time for it to develop and you can't swim, exercise or do anything that will make you sweaty, while it is developing, otherwise you will get streaks and splotches. I experienced this when I had a spray tan on a very hot day earlier this year. Despite doing my best to stay cool I did get a bit sweaty in parts with interesting results. Luckily those parts were parts that were covered by my swimsuit so it didn't bother me.

 

Some spray tans take 8+ hours to develop fully. There are express tans that take 2-4 hours though. I wouldn't want to waste time on a cruise hanging around waiting for a tan to develop.

 

I will try to report back about the effects of cruising on spray tans after my cruise :D

 

Incidentally I never even considered fake tans until my beautician bought a spray tan booth, and offered me a freebie so she could practice using it. I was very impressed by the results even on my old hide LOL.

Oz, I wonder if they offer an advanced diploma in spray tanning with a pre requisite of having cruised prior to gaining your award?? :rolleyes: All good here!

 

I know what you mean with the streaky issues. I have just changed brands, and I have a delightful tiger effect going on today!! :o. I have traditionally used Avon's fake tan and love it. Very very forgiving. I don't exfoliate or anything with it, and doesn't smell too bad!

My new brand is Sukin, which is a hippie friendly, vegan loving, oragutan caring Aussie brand! I love their skin care n hair care, but will need more practice before I venture out in my bathing suit!! :) At least it's not orange like the orangs I guess!!
