Bermuda.... From Port Canaveral

I didn't see this posted already...

 

but I noticed that the Sunshine is doing an 8 day cruise to Bermuda from Port Canaveral in October 2015.

 

Hmmm if we didnt have a TA booked for than we would seriously consider doing it.

If so, check the amount of hours in port as they only dock at King's Wharf and you will need a ships tour or public transportation to go beyond.

The only ship within my pocketbook out of Fl is the MSC Divina April 11, staying in Bermuda 2 nights. Am booked on that one. 7 nights out of Miami.

It looks like possibly 1 sailing. Oct 2, 8 day. day 2 and 3 at sea, day 4 at 8 a.m. , day 5, day 6 leave 6 p.m. 2 days at sea. It's at Kings Wharf. Start price $679.

I'm booked on the Splendor Bermuda cruise (7 nights from Norfolk) on 10/23/15. Prices are outrageous and balcony & suite cabins sold out several weeks ago (ok, just checked and there is ONE each of balcony, aft balcony and a corner wrap; that's it - that aft wrap is gonna cost you over $4,200 for the week!).

 

We're in port almost 3 full days. When I sailed Glory to Bermuda, we were only there 1-1/2 days, and I didn't get to see nearly enough (didn't really have time to do anything that 2nd morning). The Pride sailings only give one afternoon and the next morning in port. That really isn't enough time to explore at all. Oh, it looks like for the 10/26/15 sailing, she arrives in Bermuda on the 28th at 1:30. We'll be departing at 4 pm that afternoon.

 

The fact that I can drive to Norfolk the morning of sailing (if I need to; hotels with cruise parking packages aren't common), makes a huge difference. Although I just booked SW roundtrip RDU-FLL for under $250 for November, adding that to the Sunshine fares (about the same as when I initially booked Splendor), gives me no reason to switch. Yes, there's an extra sea day, which is appealing, but air to Orlando is always more expensive for me and then there's the whole transportation to Cocoa Beach to consider. I have a 10/15 work deadline every year, so couldn't sail in early October anyway!

 

It's nice to see that Carnival realizes that the Bermuda cruises are popular. Yes, they're expensive (I've checked other lines prices and they're all high). But judging by the speed that the cabins sold (I booked a 1A at $669 PG rate in May while on Pride; I'm paying 200% so $1,485 with taxes & fees (ouch); they're now $929 pp ES and nearly sold out; a 4A solo would cost me $2,655! :eek: ), it's obvious that if people want to sail to Bermuda on Carnival, they're willing to pay the price to do so! I debated cancelling since I'm sailing solo and it's way more than I want to pay for a week, but I do really want to return to Bermuda!

 

So, I suggest that anyone who is interest might want to go ahead and book. If it sells the way the Splendor has, the price will jump early and often. This is exactly why I didn't book ES; because I didn't want cancellation fees if I decided to change my mind. There's no way the price is going to drop, so why book a restricted fare?

Yes, they're more expensive, but it attracts a better class of people. A three days in Bermuda is heaven. It's nice that Bermuda changed the rules that the casino can open after 9 when the ship is in port.

Some of us are happy we even get to go from Florida.:rolleyes:

 

I went to Myrtle Beach once in October, and that was off season as well. Will never do that again. It was if the town had shut down and back to BAU.

Nope. You know what they say. 50 degrees in the Spring is a LOT warmer that 50 degrees in the fall. At least to the northerners.

That one is a joke. It's only there from 1:30 to 1:30. Hardly 2 FULL DAYS as advertised.

But at least they are going...We did the 7 day a few years back on the Pride to Bermuda...would not want to do less than 7 days there..but as I said...at least Carnival is doing a few cruises....I'll take that...

Bermuda in early Oct can be ahhh-mazing, unless one is concerned about a hurricane (which then rules out July August & Sept also) it is some of the best weather of the Bermuda Season, also still lovely warm waters vs early in the season. I have done it many times.

When I was there on Glory (mid October 2012), the weather was, well, glorious. I don't swim, so can't tell you what the water was like at the beach. I just took the bus there and wandered around for a while.

 

Yes, it's considered the beginning of Off-Season in Bermuda. That's fine with me. I like to travel during the shoulder seasons. Yes, I also realize that the Atlantic might not be the smoothest sailing in the fall. I had no problem on Glory.

 

Yes, I'm sure the prices are high so as to only attract the "better class of people." :rolleyes:

 

I assure you, the crowd on Glory was no different from the crowds on any other Carnival cruise I've sailed. Every sailing is different. The fact that a lot of people can drive to Norfolk who won't fly to FL means lots of blue cards. At least there were lots when I sailed from there.

 

The cruises to Bermuda are expensive because Bermuda charges the cruise lines a lot to dock there. It's a unique destination. EVERYTHING there is expensive, including the cruises that visit. It's not like some Caribbean islands that have 5 or 6 ships in port all year long. Supply and demand, people. If you want to cruise to Bermuda on Carnival, you have very, very limited options. If you just want to cruise there, you can find cruises at other times of the year, but none of them are exactly inexpensive. Like I said, I checked prices on other lines because I thought the Splendor cruise was way high. It was right in line with the others I checked. Since I'm trying to get to my Milestone, I'll stick with Carnival. For now.

We took the Miracle out of NY in Sept 2011 and weather was great for the first and third day, with second one being a washout and didnt do a few things we really wanted to do.

 

Really do need at least 3 full days to do it justice. Will go back but would have to be for at least 3 days.

As for a poster wondering about a lack of sailings, wasn't there a thread back a while about no open berths there, they are booked solid previously by other cruise lines. The people there really don't even want all these people there (except for vendors earning their living there).

When we went mid Sept weather was fine and spent most of a day at a beach but October would be iffy.

 

If we go back and surely want to, either 3 full days or forget it. I have seen where Carnival does have some shorter cruises going there with only 2 days in Bermuda.

It is 3 days+. Skip the TA, you can do that anytime.
