"Package allows for up to 15 alcoholic drinks per 24 hour period (6:00am-6:00am); once the limit is reached, the guest will not be served any additional alcoholic drinks"

So you wake up and after breakfast decide to have a bloody mary or two to take the edge of your hangover. At lunch you have 3 or 4 beers and while lounging by the pool you have 2 or 3 drinks of the day. you and your friends get together in the afternoon and have another 3 or 4 beers at the bar. Maybe a shot or two because you're on vacation and really whooping it up like a crazy person. Well, you are done until tomorrow morning. Party time is over. No wine with dinner, no drinks at the casino and forget grabbing a beer at the dance club.

That's right. Once your package limit is reached for the day you will no longer be served. You can't even buy it. One cruiser I spoke to said they caught him with a beer after he reached his limit and it was taken away.

The flip side? Don't buy the package and they are more than happy to serve you drinks as long as you can stand.

What you say is true, but if you buy individually and drink quite a bit, it will cost you quite a bit more. There are ways around what you outline. Most people will have days where they don't reach 15, so on those days get a few beers and keep them in your room on ice for future use. Or, on days you are drinking a lot, buy a few when you reach 13, as you can buy drinks up until you reach 15 max. If they say anything, just say you are buying a buddy a drink. So, you can beat the system or as you say you can not buy the program, but pay more out of pocket

So... when my ship pulls in Puerto Rico (for one day) I will be "taxed" on the drinks I consume while in that port... because we are in US waters?

If PR charges taxes on drinks yes.. not sure if they do, but in most us ports they charge tax. However, that has nothing to do with the cheers program. You will be taxed on drinks whether you have the cheers program or you purchase your drinks individually.

 We have two rooms booked. If we moved one adult to the room with the teenager, would we be able to get around having to pay for both adults? I don't drink as much as the hubs.

Anyone successfully able to do this?

Sure would work.

Can you come back after your cruise and give us an update? I'm curious to find out when you are able to purchase on 1st day. There were 2 cruises on an August 12th Splendor sailing and both said they couldn't purchase till after 6:00 pm but they were credited back the next day for the drinks they bought prior to 6:00 pm.

I'm thinking this was an issue because it was one of the 1st cruises after the new price announcement... at least that's what I'm hoping.

thanks.

Now I'm thinking about this for DH and I. If it stays under 40 dollars each for a 7 day cruise. So will I be able to use it for frozen drinks at the rum bar and margarita bar? I'm sure it will work for drink of the days. We like the fu fu drinks, we're not huge drinkers but if we had 4 drinks a day it's a deal right? We have a 7 day cruise coming up on The Liberty in Feb. really thinking of doing this.

For the 5 times that I've sailed on the Splendor from NY, you had to wait until around 6:00 to purchase the Cheers program. I believe that it has something to do with the NY laws so this is not something new. But they have always credited back the price of the drink and you only paid the tax for the drinks that you had until you reached international waters.

Covers all drinks with alcohol in them. My DH thinks it's funny that after dinner, you have to pay for a cappuccino but if you have them add Bailey's or Kahlua, you don't.

Also sodas and virgin smoothies are covered.

Very interesting ... I never thought about it like this before. Very ironic.

That's why I don't plan to bother with Cheers for my next cruise. It's too Big Brotherly, and that's doubleplusungood. On top of that, I don't remember ever buying 15 drinks onboard in a single day. Usually, it's none in the morning, maybe 3 in the afternoon by the pool, 1 pre-dinner cocktail OR 1 wine at dinner, and about 5 while partying the night away.

On late-evening port days, I've spent way too much in tourist bars, but that was cash, helping the local economy. I had a blast and made friends, so it was worth it, anyway. My total bar bill for a 4-day cruise was about $120. That's cheaper than 4 days of Cheers (about $200), although this doesn't include local drinks in ports, which are more fun to try, anyway. So I say, let Carnival charge me for drinks individually, and me plan my cruise budget accordingly. I'm not planning to be teetotaler either way.

Exactly! May change on the day of boarding. I'm about to become a loyal Royal. At least theirs you can pay ahead AND it includes water AND both adults don't have to purchase. Blah.

Remember, it also says it can be adjusted DOWN... now that would be nice..

I used Cheers when I went on a Baltic cruise last year - was first people on the boat( with Faster to the fun ) and had first drink in my hand at 12 noon lol. I consumed 13-15 drinks a day over 12 days. It's actually quite easy to accumulate the drinks if you drink by the pool in the afternoon, wine with dinner and cocktails into the night.

To break Even on the cost of the program , you will only need to consume 6 drinks a day, Also you can try drinks that you never had before and if you don't like it , no big loss, Its a GREAT DEAL if you plan to drink daily,

That's just my two cents.

This info is so helpful. We are going on our first Carnival cruise in 2 days WOOHOO! Ball park how much is a beer, mixed drinks and their little umbrella drinks. Earlier someone said 6 drinks and you break even. Just trying to figure out if this is what we should do. Thanks!

The unfortunate part of the program is that all adults (even pregnant ones) over the age on 21 in a cabin must purchase, or no one. I think there should at least be a medical release statement from a doctor or something allowed to opt out in the case of pregnancy.

You're "usual" comes out to 9 drinks, which is around $90. You must of had 1 drink per day on the other 3 days to only have a $120 drink bill. Either that, or your calculations are off, and you spent more than you think on drinks.

You're partially right. I spent little onboard on port days, and almost nothing on late-evening port days. So my bar spending could be something like $20 on port days, and $40 on other days. (It was a 4-day cruise.) I usually prefer beer, which is cheaper, anyway.

I also spent a lot of cash in bars in ports. That, plus a Bon Voyage 4-pack of beer, and those things involving rum and running ;). But none of these are a part of Cheers, anyway. Plus, with the package, I'd be less willing to try exotic new drinks in ports, since I already pre-paid for the ones on the ship. (Much like some people don't bother with lunch in ports, since the food on the ship is free/pre-paid.)

So if the alcohol I bought in ports could somehow hypothetically be a part of Cheers, I'd be willing to get it. Otherwise, not so much.
