My mother is on her first cruise right now, on the Breakaway Bermuda route. Being cruise fans my brother and I were keen to know her thoughts but in the two emails she has sent so far she has been very negative, is anyone one the ship who can verify what she's saying?

In her emails she has said most of the passengers are rowdy, there was a fight in the theatre on the way to Bermuda, and that people in the next cabin just spend ALL day on their balcony being drunk and rowdy. Then today she's emailed to say a sniffer dog was on the ship and a couple were arrested and that the Bermuda locals dread the ship docking, calling it the Ghetto Ship!

My brother and I have been on numerous cruises and never experienced this, so given she has a history of being dramatic I thought I'd ask on here to see what the cruise is ACTUALLY like :)

Thanks

I can confirm that a fight broke out in the theater during a Rock of Ages show. I read about it on FB. They had to stop the show for 20 minutes! (2 young guys from New Jersey apparently, no idea what they were fighting about). Other than that, I love the Breakaway. Leaving for my 2nd cruise on her tomorrow (can't wait :)). There are rowdy and non rowdy people but it's easy to find quiet spots on that ship if you wish. Personally, it's my favorite ship. Of course, no one can control who's on it but I can't imagine getting bored of having a bad time there. Just so many options!

It's not unusual at all for Bermuda to bring on drug sniffing dogs, I have read about it happening often. Bermuda is very strict about drug use and the possibility of drugs being brought to their island.

I just debarked from the breakaway and am at the airport. This just goes to show how different experiences can be. I'm not doubting your mum, but I was surprised how nice all of the passengers were. We did purposefully stay away from the crowds (there are some design flaws on the breakaway); but all in all we experienced diverse but very respectful passengers. Fat cats every evening was full of lovely fun people, no rowdiness at all. Deck 15 and 16 at night was a different vibe entirely.

NYers are some of the most helpful, kind people you'll ever meet. Yes, we may be a little loud but we'll run up a bombed/ burning building to save you and never think of saving ourselves first in the process. And, hell, we are a lot of fun. The Breakaway cruise was my favorite cruise so far. It was like one big, fun party. Always had something going on, somebody doing something interesting- just like NYC herself.

I had a wonderful and fun cruise on the "Breakaway" last October going to Bermuda~~was at H20 most of the time and the Ice Bar. Enjoyed every minute and I am not low class and from the Hudson Valley! Cannot wait until October 27th on the "Gem" for 11 days to five islands, Woohoo!

Our friend was on your same sailing and said he & his sister had a fantastic cruise. You might have seen him in Fat Cats as they hung out there a lot and he got to jam on guitar.:);) Also said the crowd in there was a really great group of people so maybe you said hi!:D

Well, if he hung out in FatCats we saw him :). Charlie Love was really great about encouraging traveling talent to join him on stage. We saw fellow guests sing, dance, play base, guitar, drum, keys, you name it. He tried to get my boyfriend to come up (he was the one playing harmonica in the background); but Bob is too shy for the stage. We closed FatCats every single night of the cruise except Wednesday. Literally the last ones standing. And I agree with your friend, it was an amazing crowd full of love, appreciation, and respect :).

We were on this cruise. A couple comments from our impressions:

1. Yes-there was a fight in the theater, I talked to one of the people involved. He said his son came to his defense when another person apparently said something about him. The man told us he had to meet with the Captain the next day. Not sure of the outcome of the meeting. He also said security was very professional and fair in their handling of the incident.

2. The crowd overall was friendly and easy to engage in conversation. We did observe a number of intoxicated people. Seemed to occur near Bliss late at night. However, not an issue and one poster already said, plenty of areas to go onboard and get away from loud or rowdy people. Example-The Waterfront on deck 8 seemed to be pretty quite most of the time.

3. There were a lot of families and general mix of ages and demographics. The kids in general were well behaved and polite to other guests.

4. The crew- very friendly and accommodating. The cruise director responded to our concern that we raised over an issue we brought to her attention.

Overall we had a fantastic cruise.

There were at least 6 people put off the ship in Bermuda for fighting. NCL has a zero tolerance and I'm personally glad because there is just no reason to engage in physical altercations. The fights I heard about were over seating and that is just nuts! The fight in the atrium on the last sea day was between two elderly gentlemen (by appearance, probably 70's) again over seating, good grief.

Nearly everyone my dh and I met were from NY or NJ. Everyone we talked to was friendly and about having fun. I don't think it's much of a stretch to say most of the cruisers were from the surrounding area. We only witnessed one woman that was rude and she was pretty obnoxious to a H2O bartender/waiter who informed her that her son (who was clearly under 10) couldn't be in the hot tub as it was an adult-only area. After at least 5 minutes of arguing about how this was her vacation and she could be wherever she wanted, she got out of the hot tub and stormed off with her son. I'm surprised the people lying nearby didn't clap when they left - I knew I wanted to. Unfortunately, there are rude people from everywhere and out of 4000 guests, you're bound to see a few.

I can't speak to whether a passenger or passengers were rowdy, but that would be an exception. Security on all the cruise lines DO NOT tolerate that, my guess if they were fighting they were escorted off at the nearest port..

As for the dogs entering the ship in Bermuda, that is something Bermuda does, it happens on all the ships that go there..

Maybe a little drama but depending on the fight that could be quite upsetting but again not the norm on any cruise line I have cruised on…

Hope things improved for her..
