Luggage Valet use?

Recommended Posts

Here is my experience with the program this past week.....have a backup plan just in case. My husband works in law enforcement. He has a valid gun permit. He has been fingerprinted for his job. He has no criminal background. Per NCL (late Friday afternoon) , Jet blue denied him access to the program. They accepted my luggage though. I had to scramble at the last minute to rent a car instead, to hold our luggage since we had a 10 hour time lapse from when we got off the ship and our flight took off. No explanation is given by NCL or Jet Blue and we cannot think of any valid reason why this happened. I requested NCL to cancel my luggage valet since it didn't serve its purpose for just accepting 1 of the 3 pieces of luggage we had.

Hi,

I have the US Airways MC, so our first two bags are free.

I guess you can write this in on the form somewhere?

I want to use this service on our upcoming Allure cruise, but do not want to write my credit card number on the form.

Can someone who has used this service with the Master Card, please reply.

Thanks,

Barb

All fees are charged to your Sea Pass account - you do not have to write any credit card numbers on the form. If you have a frequent flyer number you do put that on the form.

I used it in July of this year - I think they had updated the form - there was a line that said something like "flying first class, premier flyer, or other ......" regarding paying the airline baggage fee.

One thing I learned also, they do not weigh the bags, learned this from customs working spot checks on Valet services. Twice my party has been pulled out for additional searches from customs using the valet services.

Great service though, funny both times I used it, I got pulled for additional check, which actually worked out good as your personally escorted of the ship to customs, right pass the big line ups. :)

Customs may have said they do not weigh the bags, but the airlines definitely do. Used luggage valet with Delta last year - was charged for one of our bags - overweight by 2 pounds! Argued the point with Delta seeing as we had 3 other underweight bags on the same flight, and we were also flying first class and had a larger weight allowance anyway. Delta refunded the charge to our credit card.

Talked to someone else on the ship who had the same problem - it is very annoying and a last minute thing that can happen to anyone. Was told that the airlines/TSA/customs - any of the people involved - randomly pick people to deny. Didn't make sense to me, but sounds like that is what happened to your husband.

  • 2 weeks later...

Using luggage valet will certainly help us next month when we get off the Freedom. I'm arriving at the hotel in Port Canaveral the day before the cruise after a visit with my sister-in-law. (she's driving me there). My mom lives in the area and will pick up my daughter at the airport then join me at the hotel. Post cruise however will be a tight squeeze for 3 people plus luggage in my mother's car.

I will get 2 free bags on United but has anyone had experience checking one bag with luggage valet (the large one) and checking a smaller one in when arriving at the airport?

Thanks,

Barb

I have never done this, but I wouldn't think it would be a problem. It is really no different than the airline saying your carry-on is too large and you have to check it, if you know what I mean.

I would make sure that you have two luggage tag check receipts so that it is actually handled as two separate check-ins.

With luggage valet you already have your boarding pass, so you would have to go to the United desk and probably explain to them and check in at the airport.

If you are in a suite the luggage valet is free.

The CL will take care of your tickets and luggage tags, you just have to apply the tags to your suitcases and leave them outside your cabin by the designated time.

You must have a flight from FLL after 11:30am.

If your carrier charges baggage fees, it will be billed to your sea pass, and of course the final bill.

We love the service and have always used it.

Definitely going to try this. I'll get two luggage valet tags and only put the larger one out the night before.

Have always wanted to use this service and now that my flight is leaving at 6:50pm instead of 10:30am I will be able to. I will still keep my carry on luggage with me but the big suitcase will be put out the night before. Sure hope that my bag will be on the baggage carousal when I got off the plane that night.

Please note I said two luggage tags (receipts) not luggage valet tags. Luggage valet will issue you one luggage tag (baggage claim tag) for the bag you have checked. If you decide to check another bag at the airport they would issue you another baggage claim tag for that particular bag. I doubt that they could combine them - that is what I meant by two luggage tags.

Are they different tags printed by luggage valet than what the airline prints? Not sure why I couldn't just attach it and hand it over at the airport for the second bag. One downside is that by using the valet service they probably don't have the 'priority' tags. More than likely my luggage won't come out with the other first class and status bags. The wait will be a small price to pay for not having to lug the larger bag.

Yes. Luggage valet does not give the small "tags" like a regular airline check-in.

You get an 8 x 10 sheet of paper - typical computer paper print out. That sheet of paper is your boarding pass and your luggage receipt numbers are printed on it, along with your flight time, schedule, etc. That one 8 x 10 sheet is all you get.

Frequently fly "status" and have found that can be a toss-up. Bags have been first off and also last off ...... don't think that truly matters.

I do not understand about getting off the ship at a certain time with this service. We planned to have breakfast and get off the ship at 9:00 AM.

Luggage valet people are normally allowed off fairly early - I believe you are given a departure number/color and you are not supposed to leave until that is called. It has been my understanding that there is always the off chance customs may have pulled your bag and want to see you, and you are not supposed to leave until luggage valet is called/cleared.

My sister and I both tried to use for departure today. she was flying Southwest and received boarding pass etc. I was told they were unable to print my luggage tags so had to schlep my bags to airport. Oh well I was flying USAIR, Met a couple at the airport. His did not work while his wife's did. Go figure.

I can understand me getting a piece of paper as boarding pass/luggage receipt numbers - but shouldn't it also come with the actual luggage tag for the bag itself? What goes on the bag that tells the folks picking up all the luggage in the hallway that my bag is luggage valet?

I fly mostly United and when flying first class (or when I had status) I always find my bags come out in the first 10 to 20 bags. As I said, if I have to wait for luggage it will only be a minor inconvenience for the luxury of not having the large bag when getting off the ship. It will give me the opportunity to help my mom with her bags getting to the car.

Yes, you get an airline official tag - just like at the airport - the ones that stick together and goes on your bag that you are putting out. Plus a RC tag. Your printed piece of paper gives the luggage receipt number for that bag.

If you do not put the other bag on your luggage valet request - as you have said you will check that one at the airport - you won't have a tag for that one. You have to state how many bags are going luggage valet.

I am assuming that they match your luggage valet order with what they pick up from you - otherwise they would be looking for your second bag.

So if your departure time is 8:00 AM we cannot stay on until 9:00 AM and have breakfast?

You can have breakfast and stay on until you are finished - you just are not supposed to leave until your number/color has been called. So if your departure time is listed as 8:00 a.m. they may not let you off at 7:00 a.m.

Ahhhh - that makes sense. I don't want them knocking on my door in the middle of the night looking for another bag :)

Thanks!
