Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. We recently took our first Regent cruise and once we realized the drill, we had no issues. You just have to ask. We were accidentally modated and n every restaurant and as the cruise progressed, the staff got to know us. Make sure you have gluten free in your profile and meet the Maitre’d in Compass Rose. Each evening you will receive the next days menu n your cabin including any specialty restaurant you have booked. You them turn it in at the Restaurant reservation dest the next morning. Both Coffee connection can bring gf muffins if you ask and afternoon tea has gf scones available. At the breakfast buffet, there was gf pancakes, waffles, bread and made to order omrlets. The only area where we had an issue was the Pool grill where there was a long wait for Gf Pizza and gf rolls. After a few days, most of the wait staff knew us.
  2. For our upcoming October cruise in Japan from Boston, we we only offered one flight, coach to Honolulu and business to Tokyo. For a up charge of $1000. There was a $3000 up charge for the non-stop. That would have been equivalent to the retail pricing. We took the credit and booked using our Amex Platinum card. It worked out to be only a few hundred dollars differential. We were told there isn’t much demand between Boston and Tokyo. Go figure.
  3. We are traveling on our first Regent cruise in October to Japan. On the day we were eligible. To book air, our TA contacted the travel desk and the only outbound flight we were offered from Boston was coach to Honolulu and business to Tokyo on Hawaiian. Not acceptable. Since I have an Amex platinum card, I checked them and their price for a non stop was $500 more than the air credit and a significant savings over the retail price. We took the air credit.
  4. We spent the day in Seward after our cruise and took the evening train to Anchorage and spent the night there. The train ride was beautiful and both of us could see the scenery.
  5. We are avid big cruisers and have sailed on Azamara and loved the cruise. Staff was excellent and we especially loved the care they took knowing about my celiac disease. We decided to try Regent this fall because when I added up the cost for a standard suite plus air plus tours plus Tokyo stay, Azamara turned out to be more expensive than Regent. Therefore, it was a no brainer for us. We are hoping that they get some of the Explorer issues ironed out by the time we get there but are going with an open mind and know that the world has changed since pre-Covid.
  6. First time on Regent for us and not impressed. For our Tokyo trip in October, we tried to deviate and the only flight they were offering us was a flight from Boston to Honolulu coach) and Honolulu to Tokyo. When our travel agent called them back the deviation fee had gone up to $3000. We checked Amex Platinum and found the non-stop for around $250 per ticket over the credit. JAL had the flight for $10,000 per ticket. We took the credit and booked with Amex. Nice thing about it was, we also got our seat assignments. We have been assured that Regent will pick us up at the airport since we are doing the 3 day pre-cruise tour. Fingers crossed.
  7. On another note, we recently used Amex platinum international air benefit to book our non stop flight to Japan from the east coast. Price was about $2000 less than the air deviation cost with the air credit. In addition, we are ticketed and got to pick seats right away.
  8. Last Saturday and yesterday it appears that they were doing some maintenance on the account side.. It would have been nice if they had posted something to let people know and how long it would be out. We were concerned about our account last week so I knew it workable ultimately come back yesterday.
