Just back from the 8/17/14 sailing to Bermuda. I have been on several cruises but this was my first time on Celebrity. Let my start by saying the crew, captain and other guests were great. I had an amazing time and really enjoyed sailing on Celebrity.

I did NOT like the way we were treated in regards to the Muster Drill. When we arrived at our assigned location A4, we were held at the door with about 9 other people (11 total) while other people were granted access. We were the taken to a different station without ANY explanation other than to follow "Krazy" which is what it said on the guys name tag. We were then dropped off in the new area with no direction. No one would explain what was going on. We were told to go stand in the center of the stage in what we would later find out was Rendezvous.

The whole experience did not sit well with me...actually I was really upset about the whole thing...i know it is mostly a formality but I still take it seriously. We went to Guest Relations and the representative there said it was part of a drill they do every so often. She offered to set up a meeting with a safety officer who could better explain the situation to us.

The next day I met with Tassos the safety officer. He said it was not a drill but that THEY DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH ROOM FOR ALL THE ASSIGNED GUESTS in the A4 Muster station.:confused::mad: WHAT?!?

He went on to say that they did not know how many people would be in all the cabins assigned to A4 until they had the drill. (Don't they have to turn in the ship's manifest prior to the sailing?)

He assured me there would be no problems and that if we had to evacuate the ship someone from the crew would come and personally take us to our muster station (which sounds ridiculous to me...that someone has to unnecessarily risk their life to come get me when I may not even be in my cabin). He then said that maybe I should try to get to the muster drill earlier next time. We were 15 minutes early. We were not the last nor were we even close to the last people to arrive.

Has something like this ever happened to you? Is this something common on Celebrity?

I've been on a few Celebrity cruises and this has never happened to me. I don't recall ever hearing or reading that it happened to anyone else. My guess is that there is more to the story than you were told. Remember, the a muster drill is also designed to train crew and this could very well have been part of the training. They don't necessarily want passengers to know more than they need to know.

Ya, i see Muster Drills as the one thing on the Ship where the Pax is truly just a number... And you have to put your faith entirely in The Crew & The Process... As it what they are trained to do professionally as part of their jobs... Week in week out month to month (vs the 30 minutes for us Pax to hear "our role")

And in reality... That is what is supposed to make the whole process work.

If Pax take things into their own hands... Then there is a greater chance of things going wrong. Period

I get wanting to know WHY things involving you went the way they did...

But if they determined you'd be better cared for at Station X vs Station Y... Then so be it. You have to trust their judgement as professionals.

Cheers!

When we went to our muster drill last October, instead if waiting upstairs as we were supposed to, we had to sit downstairs due to lack of space!! Honestly, me and mum just went with it. It was however explained very clearly that our muster station was upstairs not downstairs! We were happy. Sorry it worries you x xx x

We are on the current Summit sailing and saw a similar thing happen to passengers, as we were standing next to them when someone came over and explained they should go to their original muster station first, and then would be escorted to the new muster stations.

With the ship sailing with so many cabins with extra people and near capacity, I can see how sea pass cards get printed with the cabins's muster stations, but some stations would be full, so they relocate to other stations with room, once they know exactly who is onboard. Both of these cruises seem to have been very much at (over?) capacity where 100% capacity is double occupancy.

Happy sailing,

Jenna

Our muster station was changed also on the 8/17 Bermuda cruise. It was explained to us that there were too many assigned to our original station. We were not bothered by this because in an unlikely evacuation we were told that we would be led out from our existing location by a crew member, and not be required to try to make our way to the muster station. This made sense to us. I would not want to waste time going from one end of the ship to another in an emergency. Our SeaPass card would enable the crew to account for any missing passengers.

Dottie,

It was not explained to us at the time. When it finally was explained, we were given 2 completely different responses by 2 different people.

It did not in any way ruin our cruise...in fact, it was the only negative thing I have to say about Celebrity at all, which is a shame because if someone had taken the 2 seconds to explain it to us when it was happening, it would have been a nonissue.

Thanks

been escorted to a different muster station than the one you were assigned to?

It could happen if the ship is sinking

Happy cruising 🌊🚢🇺🇸🌅

I dare say maybe the reason is how many of the Pax for a specific station have a mobility issue. They might not know that until the drill. Let's say that they can handle one mobility challenged vs two unchallenged pax. so they send a couple of non challenged pax to a different station. Plausible and probable. It may be their little secret too.
