seaserenity Posted September 6, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 6, 2014 Thinking of getting a day pass to the Occidental resort for my beach day--how much is the cab fare? Also, I will be traveling solo, how safe is it to cab here as a single woman? Thanks for the info!
Arubalisa Posted September 6, 2014 #2 Share Posted September 6, 2014 From Oranjestad to the high rise hotels on Palm Beach including the Occidental is $11 each way. Add an additional $3 each way on Sunday or a national holiday. Taxis are perfectly safe. If you find someone willing to share the taxi and split the cost with you they can hold up to a maximum of 5 people.

canadarocks Posted September 6, 2014 #4 Share Posted September 6, 2014 Thank you, Arubalisa, that is good news all the way around. Now to find someone to share the cab ride with! Consider asking on your Roll Call. That's how my husband and I found a couple that wanted to head to Eagle Beach this year. :)

Arubalisa Posted March 21, 2015 #9 Share Posted March 21, 2015 From inside the cruise terminal, it is now $14 each way for up to a maximum of 5 people per taxi. Add an additional $3 on Sundays and holidays. If you wish to save $3 you could walk outside the gates of the cruise terminal and down to the outside of the lobby at the Renaissance Marina Tower. If there are no taxis waiting, the bellman will phone one for you. :) Here is the current taxi board at the Cruise Ship Terminal in Oranjestad. The five of us took a $14+tip (total - not each) taxi to Palm Beach (High Rise Hotel Area), but on the way back the only taxi driver standing on the sidewalk was demanding $25 for a return trip. Pretty much we told him to 'go scratch' and jumped on the public bus that was stopped right there next to his cab. I believe it cost us $2.30pp and the driver gave us change back from the $15 we handed him.

sgjanice Posted April 11, 2015 #11 Share Posted April 11, 2015 Cost us $14 from outside the Raddison to the Occidental. Do Not have a wet bathing suit. They will not let you in the cab. We had an incident where my dhs bathing suit was damp and he was literally screamed at and thrown out of the cab and made to pay a $30 fee. These type of cab drivers are making a bad name for all of the other cab drivers with plastic covers on their seats...be ware!

How would like to be the next person in the cab in your dress going to dinner and you sit on a wet seat? In case you don't realize it, this is how that person makes his living. He can't afford to have his cab out of commission for an entire evening while the seat dries out. Also, there are very few cabs with plastic covers on the seats. People need to be considerate and not be an ugly American by blaming the other person for their screw-ups.
Arubalisa Posted April 13, 2015 #13 Share Posted April 13, 2015 Yes, like carnivalman said, I personally try to be considerate of everyone, BUT in this case it IS all about ME and getting a wet  or even damp butt :( while riding to a restaurant for dinner. Common courtesy goes a long way... :D :) :D :)
beebee Posted June 7, 2015 #14 Share Posted June 7, 2015 Try taking the bus! The bus terminal is right in town and it is a lot cheaper then a cab and you don't have to worry about getting someone to share a cab with you. It's a lot of fun and makes you feel like a "local"!
