kapeavey Posted September 14, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 14, 2014 We've been to Nassau many times but not Freeport. Does anyone have suggestions on what to do, or not do, while there on the Carnival Sunshine? Thanks!

Marsidote Posted December 4, 2014 #3 Share Posted December 4, 2014 I am planning on the Grand Lucayan. It's a resort with pools, restaurant, beach, etc. costs $15 p/p and is about a $10 roundtrip cab ride from what I understand. I have never been, but it has great reviews. I went to Freeport last January and made the mistake of not planning anything. There is nothing to do right off the ship, except a straw market and a Senor Frogs. cellalot Posted December 7, 2014 #4 Share Posted December 7, 2014 We were on the Sensation over Thanksgiving break and I found Calabash Eco Adventures. You will need to book it ahead of time. We did the Blue Hole and beach tour. We have been on over 35 cruises and this was one of the best experiences we have had. The focus is on seeing the nature side of the island which is beautiful once you get away from the main tourist areas. We started snorkeling in an inland blue hole which is a collapsed cave. Next we went to Lucaya National Park and saw additional blue holes and a practically empty beach which is as pretty as I have ever seen. We finished at a local restaurant on another beach (Try the Conch!) and lunch is included in the tour. During the whole trip the guides are giving you the history and science behind the ecosystems. It was a truly educational and fun experience. They offer other tours and you can find out more on their website. When we are back in Freeport we will try on the kayaking/snorkeling that Calabash offers as well.

zubee23 Posted December 15, 2014 #11 Share Posted December 15, 2014 Billie Joe's is down the beach from the Grand Lucayan. Grand Lucayan has their $15 p/p day pass that gives you beach, pool and chair access. Not towels. It's right across the way from Port Lucaya Marketplace and next to the casino. The Marketplace has shops, restaurants and bars. We were just there in November and had a great time. I posted info about the daypass but it disappeared! Have no idea why. It cost $10. pp/rt to get from the ship to Port Lucaya.
Marsidote Posted December 16, 2014 #12 Share Posted December 16, 2014 Grand Lucayan has their $15 p/p day pass that gives you beach, pool and chair access. Could you enter and exit with the day pass? Say, if you wanted to go across to the market for lunch, then return to the resort, was that allowed? I've heard food was really expensive there. Casino.. huh. I do love a casino! Too bad im only traveling with my 9 yr old! lol

LREcruise02 Posted December 18, 2014 #14 Share Posted December 18, 2014 If you want a beach day we took a taxi over to Junkanoo Beach last time in Freeport and had a great day. Nice beach, little restaurant/bar with shade, and a little shopping area. We would definitely go back there! ray98 Posted January 17, 2015 #15 Share Posted January 17, 2015 I am interested in this myself. I guess we plan to make it a beach day. Last time I was in Freeport there was nothing around, glad to see there is now a Senor Frogs at least.

Rare mitsugirly Posted February 9, 2015 #19 Share Posted February 9, 2015 Just a few questions... Grand Lucayan Resort: It was said that it cost $10 round trip. How is it round trip? Does you cab wait on you while you are there and then take you back to the ship? Or do you have to pay them when they drop you off and "hope" that they return for pick up? Is this pp or for the entire cab? How long of a drive is it from the port? Junkanoo: Where exactly is this located? When I try to look it up on google earth, it doesn't come up with anything. How far from port? How much to get there? Do they charge to enter? Thanks in advance.

You pay For the RT and the give you a ticket for the return. We went back to the ship soon after lunch and the vans were going back and forth all day. Thanks for the info....and how long does it take to get there? We have a limited amount of time in port (7-1am) and have to decide if we should do this port on our own and what type of time frame are we on. HappyValley3 Posted April 3, 2015 #23 Share Posted April 3, 2015 We are on the Pride sailing May 3, 2015. We just booked a snorkel excursion with Pat & Diane Tours for Friday, May 8, 2015. Tour#1 - Sea Safari Snorkeling Tour - 3 hours. They pick you up at the Port and the price was great! Great reviews. We need 14 more people to get the boat with the water slide and rock climbing wall! lol

LREcruise02 Posted April 5, 2015 #25 Share Posted April 5, 2015 We went to Junkanoo in Freeport. Not a fan of the Nassau Junkanoo. But Freeports was awesome. It was a short taxi ride and if I remember right free or a small entrance fee we bought food and drink. I'll try to look through my pictures and find more info!
