camasidaho Posted September 15, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 15, 2014 So I booked a 2 bedroom suite not in the haven. 11th floor. I don't plan on any speciallity restaurants. I would like to go to the shows. Do I just show up or does the concieger get me in some way. Also getting off the ship first on tenders and at the dock. Do I get help this way or just stand in line. Last. I am on the gem out of New York. Without sounding snobby do I look for some special line at embarkation?

You'll check in and have a special place to wait in the pier. The Concierge will introduce them self out in the waiting area and will escort the group of suite guests on the ship and you'll be taken right to Cagney's for lunch. You'll see the Concierge most likely each morning in Cagney's where you can make any requests as far as getting off early in port, or for sitting in the special seats for the shows....as well as early tendering as needed. The Concierge has a desk right across from Cagney's in the STAR bar which serves as a Concierge lounge during the day. You'll also have a portable phone you can carry around the ship, so you can call the Concierge or Butler with requests as needed. You should have business cards from both the Butler and Concierge with their phone numbers. Edited September 15, 2014 by Got Tequila?
NLH Arizona Posted September 15, 2014 #3 Share Posted September 15, 2014 (edited) Other than embarkation and disembarkation, I didn't use the Concierge at all and since I wasn't in the Haven, she didn't want to be bother with me anyway. Never saw the Concierge in Cagneys. For the tenders (even though I did not use it), you will get a letter in your cabin telling you what time and where to meet. I don't remember any letters about getting off early while being docked, but I could have missed it. Yes, there will be a suite check-in. You will check-in and then they will show you where to go. It will be a separate area, where you will get your keys and be escorted onto the ship and to the restaurant for lunch. Make sure you keep asking, if they don't send you to the suite check in. When I cruised out of Los Angeles in May, they kept trying to send me to the long check in lines and then after 4 different people, a gentleman directed me to the suite check-in. Rare All-ready2cruise Posted September 15, 2014 #5 Share Posted September 15, 2014 Just to be clear, think of the different services in your suite as: your concierge takes care of things OUTSIDE of your cabin ie: dinner, show or excursion reservations; your Butler takes care of extras INSIDE your cabin ie: in cabin dining, bringing snacks, refilling coffee pods as well as demonstrating how to use the special coffee maker, and your room steward is the same regardless of cabin type taking care of cleaning, making you special characters and refilling your ice.. Hope this helps, enjoy your suite experience and don't worry, you can go back to regular cabin afterwards... reluctantly I admit. :p
toyotaford Posted September 15, 2014 #6 Share Posted September 15, 2014 Reserved seating at the shows are normally for OS and GV guest only. But honestly the seats aren't that great. They are on the second level on the sides. There are several obstructions between some of the seats and the stage. We have often moved to better seats on the floor if it was something we were really interested in.
albertamom Posted September 15, 2014 #7 Share Posted September 15, 2014 Priority disembarking in ports is fabulous! We received a letter in our cabin the night before a port, telling us when and where to meet the concierge (in the Star Bar on the Dawn). We were then escorted in small groups down a service elevator and directly to the people swiping our cards. No line-ups whatsoever! :D
Jan_In_Maine Posted September 15, 2014 #8 Share Posted September 15, 2014 We just came home from the Dawn on Friday (we were in DOS 12000) ... We met the concierge upon boarding and I did ask about the Chef's Table ... she was able to get us reservations. We also saw her each day in Cagney's. We did get to go to the bridge with others ... that was really great!!! Other than that we never did ask for anything from her ... but did enjoy talking each day. latebloomer56 Posted September 15, 2014 #9 Share Posted September 15, 2014 On our first trip in a suite on the GEM in May 2013 (DOS in the Haven). Concierge was always around as was our butler. However in our 2 BR suite on the Dawn, nothing we called him when we were ready to leave the ship. He said which area to go to but we still didn't meet him. A very nice young lady started to walk us off and like magic he finally appeared. We didn't tip him as he had been to busy to swing by and introduce himself in a 7 day trip. Our butler was very nice so he made out with a little extra as did our cabin steward. We are new to the suite life and just assumed he needed to cater to higher level guests. This is just our experience and we are in the same cat. (SF) this Nov. so don't plan on seeing him or her this time either as this ship has the Haven and that is where they will be.
