I am more than aware of that. My point was airiawoman was misreading what I was posting. It isn't necessary for me to call Capt. Club, reason's I won't go into. I am in an aqua on my upcoming Reflection cruise. I really do know what I'm doing.

Sorry but I was just responding to your post where you said that "there are alot of specials for couples that singles cannot get" and this is simply not true. There are no specials for couples that singles cannot get that I am aware of as long as one is persistent with celebrity and does not just take "no" for an answer.

I was not implying that you did not know what you were doing but just trying to make sure people here were aware that a single should be able to get any special available to a couple even after final payment or for new bookings only, but it often requires alot of effort.

There may be exceptions to this, but so far I haven't found any, at least not using the Celebrity US site.

The sad thing - it shouldn't require a lot of effort. We know we are going to pay 200% - we should be able to get exactly the same without all the effort.

I have booked several guarantee rates with celebrity as a solo. You have to go through Captains Club and not the agents because they will just tell you No. Also, if they say No just ask them to call the resolution department and they will approve it. At least that is what has always happened with me. You have to be firm and insist, though, and of course you still have to pay double the fare for single occupancy.

The web site will not let you book a guarantee for a single, which is why you must call celebrity. I know they can do it because I just upgraded recently to guarantee rates on the constellation even though it was technically restricted to double occupancy plus it was after final payment and supposedly for new bookings only.

Good luck and keep trying until you get a yes answer because I know first hand it is possible and that they have the flexibility to do it.

If you use an agent, you don't have to go through all of this trouble. Your agent can do it for you (and it is probable easier for the agent than it is for you).

That's not a fair analogy. In our 4 cruises so far we have never brought specialty dinners, never brought a photo or airport transfers, no bourbon tasting or Reidel wine seminars. So who's going to have to pay to make up that?

The people that gamble in the ship's casino.

Just back from my 3rd solo cruise. I'm partial to the 3-5 day sailings because I can afford my preferred balcony cabin on the shorter itineraries and that's about the max time I want to spend alone. You pay double cabin rate - but only port charge for one. When onboard credit is offered, I've received the amount 2 people would get and after only 3 cruises I am a Platinum Member! So there are some pluses...I know NCL offers solo cabins, but sounds like they are terribly small and cramped...I would still book a regular cabin to avoid sailing in a closet. I hear the new RCL ships will offer solo cabins, of a generous size and with balconies. Can't wait!

One can not book as a solo a GTY cabin via the website, at least that has been my experience. I was amazed, and even called customer service, who reiterated the GTY was only valid for double occupancy. This was on a sailing on the Summit to Bermuda.

Perhaps sometimes GTY allow singles, but I know from experience, that it does happen where a GTY must have 2 people on the reservations, perhaps its related more to the timing of the GTY relative to the occupancy of the ship. I.e. a last minute GTY on a nearly full ship (as was my case) may insist on double so they get extra per person spend, where a ship that will likely sail with some empty cabins may allow a single GTY to be booked, at 100% Single Supplement in order to at least fill a potential empty cabin.

To those who suggest booking a dummy passenger who does not show up, you'd need their passport details to to the OLCI and print Express Pass, as you can not print the express pass until all people not he reservation have done the checkin routine. Though I believe you could show up at the pier without express pass and be checked in, as if you arrived by car and the other is coming later by plane. Taxes and port few would then be refunded after departure for the no show.

Interesting discussion folks.

I agree that I do not understand why an Xciting Deal or a GTY cannot be booked as a single as long as the single is willing to pay the 100% single supplement, meaning they are paying the full cost of the room (on a discounted GTY room). I have visited with a couple of singles on board a few cruises and found these were MORE likely to participate in some of the additional cost activities, such as Chef's Table, the special dinner with wine pairing in Moran, etc.

Does the staff on board offer special programming for singles, or at least a few meet and greets?

Hi:) I have been sailing solo with Celebrity for 11.5 years now...I don't

recall any special programming but it is not something I ever look for.....

I don't look other single folks......doesn't matter to me what the maritial

status of other cruisers happens to be.....I enjoy the company of

friendly folks.....whether they be married, divorced, etc....etc...etc....

As for the events you mentioned? I have gone to different dinners

before and usually have a very good time......I love culinary events:D

The wait staff doesn't care if you are on your own. I participate in

them because I enjoy them....and yes, there is always an extra cost.

I have booked guarantees and exciting deals for single occupancy on several cruises, as I said before on this board. They were all either Transatlantic cruises or European. Just recently I was able to upgrade from an inside to a guarantee concierge and then again to an Aqua class on a guarantee during exciting deals. So, as I said before, on those cruises it is absolutely possible, perhaps things are different in the Caribbean. I have had agents that have said it cannot be done and then I just call captains club and they check with the resolution desk and always give it to me. Perhaps I have been lucky, perhaps I know how to negotiate, I dont know but I have upgraded at least four times with exciting deals or other last minute deals after final payment or even before on Celebrity.

Yes, I pay 200% and lose any perks given by celebrity but the discounts and cabin upgrades were more than worth it for the savings.

Thats all I can say, call captains club and you should get it. If not insist they call the resolution desk. Surely there must be someone else reading this thread who has received a single upgrade.
