It appears you didn't get what the comment is about.

That's OK, it is often difficult for others to get the intent of a post and this is a good example. :)

P.S. it also appears that you went (and I must say, in my observation, it appears very often) with the negative view and the IX comment was meant to insult, not sure why you went there or really ever go there. :) .

Have a good weekend!

Maybe if you articulated your point rather than go with a one-liner quip cliche like "first world problems" folks wouldn't have such a difficult time getting your intent...which remains a mystery.

Hint: it's not the entertainment venues the suite guests are trying to avoid...it's not the casino, it's not the speciality restaurants, it's not muster.

It is two places where, generally speaking, people tend to devolve to an amazing and often sickening low. I will list them now:

1. Boarding wait area.

2. Buffet.

You forgot the sundecks which is it own drama with chair hogs, unsupervised children, people wearing things they shouldn't be wearing, etc....

There's no such thing as total avoidance of messes called humanity, you can lower your exposure but even then that still doesn't completely protect you. That when you need to learn to get along with people or at least tolerate, so you can identify the ones that are going to be a problem - trust me its small number of people that are issues who are complete PITA to total strangers. In other words, you can be in Haven suite but that doesn't stop your fellow haven guests from being drunken boors themselves in the Haven MDR or complaining that the ice in their water is making the glass cold or looking like a homeless person with unkempt beard, bad smell and breath, big holes in clothes walking around Haven lounge.

I'm sorry, Triptolemus. I usually enjoy reading your posts, but this one is unbelievable. I have stayed in The Haven on a cruise, and to be honest, found the rudest, least friendly and most self-absorbed people there than I have ever found anywhere else on the ship.

...snip...

Sailing in 6 weeks and can't wait!!:)

It was a little unbelievable! I agree. I was going for a little humor...maybe missed the mark.

I guess what I'm really trying to say is that I disagree with some poster's assertion that suite guests are somehow trying to avoid steerage pax. I have had nothing but the best time, as you said, with pretty much everyone I interact with wherever I happen to be on the ship. I, of of course, don't ask what category they're staying in!

Glad I have a fan... I'm sailing 2 weeks behind you... I hope you enjoy your voyage!

Edit to add... I've never done the Haven....only aft PH suites. Perhaps a different breed up there! :)

It is not really difficult to understand a cliché.......; maybe there is a language barrier which would explain some things. Clichés tend to be slang in a language.

It may help to look it up or Google it.

No bad intent here; my intent is that we are very lucky and to complain about 'perks' that are accompanied with big amount of money spent means we are, again, very lucky. Hope this helps. :)

I didn't have problem with his quip of "first world problems' because well the people being upset about the $99 VIP program and excuses of hating are pretty much are "first world problems' - don't want to be around the masses during breakfast / lunch at Cagney even through meals times for the place is probably 3-4 hours / not everyone going down at the same time / only 40 passes (aka 40 people) can get it. Then there's not like that people are getting upgraded breakfast menus , that getting 2 snacks per week / trip, the VIP passes holders will ruin their trip, the suite perks would be devalue, that they would get access to the Haven area - all those that I listed are "first world problem"; meanwhile in parts of Africa they are having problems containing Ebola to the point that can't bury the dead properly, their medical staff are ill-equip to provide care for patients and society looks like it collapsing over there. Then there's Iraq, parts of Central & South America are having gang & poverty issues, Syria and ISIS issues, Middle East with their Islamic radicals too etc.. But that $99 VIP package is scourge and abomination to the NCL Haven Suites who don't like it and must never be offered again!!

Regarding that IX comment - did it ever occur to you that person in IX can go like 8 times a year compare to your 1 time a year in the Haven suite? Maybe they like the IX because it lets go so often compare to paying a suite? Maybe he's millionaire and your lower middle class? Food for thought.

I may be the one who missed the humor mark -- had a root canal this afternoon, so nothing much is that funny right now!

I plan to enjoy every moment of my cruise -- and I wish the same for you.;)

NCL should give better perks for their loyal Platinum latitudes customers that reach certain milestones.

I really think if you have been on 20 NCL cruises you shouldn't have to make a made dash for a Vibe pass IMO

That should be some kind of Platinum plus perk :)

I second this.

Its not Haven / Suite guesst that should be upset about lost of benefit(s), it high rolling CAS that should be since they're the ones losing the privilege to dine in the Cagney for breakfast / Lunch on non- Breakaway ships. God and NCL only knows how many CAS high rollers there are compare to 40 VIP passes, so for you know it could be 60-80 people along with suite guests using the place - so don't get all happy over there since CAS can pick any room categories they want with their benefits and cash.

Another thing, you're crying over other benefits in the VIP that in hindsight has nothing to do with you such as upgraded room service menus, one free dining show at Cirque (which one can also get from UDP the 1st night), free snacks 2x a week / trip, free picture, priority disembarking and tendering. Regarding the disembarking and tendering, suites guest are the 1st to go anyway (if they got their act together), so what's exactly is the problem you're having with VIP package? You need to get off that extremely high horse, you seem to be losing oxygen to that brain of yours...... If you truly want to not deal with people at all, get a private yacht of your own since the Haven suites guests are no better than the regular passengers when it comes to foolish behaviors or maybe you can't see it since you're just as boorish....

Well...DW and I have thought about giving Regent a try, just to give you a little idea about us. ;)

And my issue with this "package" is that it devalues the suite product when it is already a high end offering among contemporary lines. Supply and demand... That is all I am going to say on that subject. And The Haven guests are more demanding...yes (to a point). I expect to be seated at a restaurant on a sold out night last minute without reservations due to the concierge (or flashing the Haven card). This "vip" package is a farce...plain and simple. It has the illusion of perks without giving any real ones (my restaurant example is a REAL perk).

And me complaining about loss of benefits is me venting about opening Cagneys up for breakfast for non-suite guests with the package (and leaving CAS out in the cold). I called the Pre cruise concierge and was put on hold, the woman that answered told me that the previous 10 callers were complaining about this as well...that The Haven (and suite) guests were calling in with full force.

I'll also add the theatre to that one too. haven guests have priority access to the Theatre on Breakaway class vessels (and on Epic). You show up early and are escorted to a seat in a roped off area. The Haven keeps you shielded from the droids, yet still lets you enjoy a large ship. DW and I still buy the UDP, but we always walk up whenever and are seated. If we can't get on, we call the concierge and they "make arrangements" to get us in with a very short wait.

You want to know what's funny - Other rich people think other rich people who go on cruisers are low- class and low-brow even if the accommodations are Haven suites and luxury cruisers. I have a boss that makes 7-figures, who looks down on cruisers because their on a 'monorail trip that doesn't let you do what you want", "traveled by peons and derelicts with no money","can't call out " and "stuck on boat doing nothing but eat and sleep" (his actual words when about his ex-partner who retired this year and went on luxury river cruise in Europe before leaving the company). And that's my boss, you hear all the other stuff from his clients like " cruisers can't afford Martha's Vineyards cheap hotels", "can't get pay for dining on St. John's since cruisers love freebie poorly made cruise buffet", "how are you paying for a cruise to visit Nassau for day, instead of going to Aruba for the week?", "He claims to be rich but can't afford they're own private yacht to visit the Rivera" etc. Yes, they actually say this in person.....

I think UPNYGuy, triptolemus, and all the other suite guests who feel that VIP slighted them badly and not wanting to be around "droids" and whatever other names they like to call the common masses - Your own fellow rich people are probably saying worst about you than the 'regular' folks for being a cruiser especially using a mass market cruise line like NCL. To them, you purposely choose to be around common people in confined space and could had gone else to vacation like with more open space like Exhumas, Paris, Edgartown, etc.

droid is a typo. It should have been crowd. My apologies. That was very rude, and I did not catch it until I saw the email alerts this morning.

And I've had it told to my face that a cruise is 'low brow' I laughed and told said person that how I spend my money really is not that persons concern.

Don't judge us all by a few.

I am very, very well off. I sold my factory and retired at 30 years old. I'm now 40. I don't ever have to work again. Nor do my 4 boys or their future kids.

I do not act, say or think like some of these people I am reading about.

We vacation all year. Anytime my 4 boys are out of school we are gone. Spent over a month in Europe this summer. 2 weeks of that on a ship. It was our favorite part of the trip.

We have never been in a suite. We usually stay in the cheapest connecting rooms we can get. Inside is my wife's preference as she likes it dark.

We have considered a suite but every time I look they are all sold out.

We are just regular people. We like traveling and nice thinsg. We are very grateful for our lifestyle but we don't feel we are better than anyone else.

I love this. :) Not laughing at you ... I'm the one who sent my daughter a provocative text one time.

When you look at all the suite/Haven perqs, none of them would be "watered down" by the former/proposed VIP package. We have been provided with the Cagney's and concierge amenity on a number of cruises. Cagney's was seldom close to half full when we went. Perhaps 2/3s on debarkation morning. On all but the big three boats, the VIP seating in the theater sucks.

I tried spelling proles several ways and autocorrect never took it to droids.

You have your way, I have my way. As for the right way, the correct way, and the only way, it does not exist.

Try "croids" or " droiwds" -- both auto-correct to "droids" or "crowds" in a very unpredictable manner.

Auto-correct in mobile devices is adaptive and results different things for every user, if you have used word droid before, it is more likely to appear as a "correction" when using letters near those of 'd', 'r', 'o' and 'i' on the keyboard in a same/similar length word.

And considering I have friends who are Trekkies (ugh I hate that word). Yes I have...many times.

As a suite guest, VERY HAPPY, more like THRILLED to the point of dancing that this was ended. If people want the perks...

PAY UP or cruise until you are PLATINUM

Just curious as to what Platinum has to do with this conversation?

Upcoming cruise we are not having a suite, but a mini suite with no perks. That's just fine with us.

While we enjoyed our OS we do not have any problems with a regular cabin without perks. The cabin and itinerary have a lot to do with your final price and that's what I'm looking at. I would not have bought the VIP so I won't be missing it.
