Jane110 Posted May 8, 2004 #26 Share Posted May 8, 2004 Lois, Because I've been working in the fashion industry for so many years, as well as being a member of "the tribe",<g> the word RETAIL is also not in my vocabulary....or very rarely is. BTW, because Floridians hardly buy any winter clothing, I've gotten some of my best deals in Florida. I had my eye on the classic MaxMara Alpaca winter coat for 3 years and watched the price of it climb from $1200 to $1500. When I tried buying one on sale here in NY at the end of a season, there was never one in my size left. This past Nov. I got one when visiting Ft. Lauderdale. Price: $700.!!! It looks great and I get lots of compliments and I'll have it for years. Big score! Jane110 Posted May 8, 2004 #28 Share Posted May 8, 2004 HI Lois, I hope your sister brought you some things from India. They make such beautiful silk items there. Okay, we want a full report on your shopping day and want to hear about the shoes that called out to you and *made* you take them home! Enjoy your time with your sister. Rare Lois R Posted May 8, 2004 Author #29 Share Posted May 8, 2004 Jane....no clothing..this trip was short notice...but a while back she brought me some fanstastically (is that a word?) beautiful 24 karat gold earrings....the color is like nothing you will ever see (well, you might) LOL but the "regular shopper"....including me...would never see it. India's gold is 18 and 24 karat...they don't do 14... They are small hoops...in kind of a triangular shape....with a pattern on the gold..just gorgeous looking Next up...HORIZON Sept 18th to Bermuda! Jane110 Posted May 8, 2004 #30 Share Posted May 8, 2004 Lois, Your earrings sound great. Perhaps you could work on a matching bracelet sometime! Yes, you're right, once you see the real color of gold, that 14K stuff is hard to wear. If "regular shoppers" will pay good money for it, the manufacturers have no reason to change. 18K is only pennies more to make, so I refuse to pay good money for an inferior product. As you wear your 24K earrings, it'll get harder and harder for you too....getting used to better stuff is quite easy! Most of my jewelry is 18K (european stuff) and some of it is 20-22K.(asian stuff) The color is just gorgeous and it looks so rich. Enjoy your earrings....and today's shoe shopping! Jane
