GORDONCHICK Posted October 7, 2014 #1 Share Posted October 7, 2014 We've been to Rotan 4 times I think. We've done island tours and have seen the monkeys and other animals, visited a butterfly park, etc. We zip line in BZ, so that's not something were looking into doing in Rotan. Oh, and DH isn't a beach person (though he'd probably be okay if it was only for an hour or 2). I've read about and seen photos of the mangroves and they sound interesting but I don't know if there's an excursion to go see them. Any ideas? Rare crewsweeper Posted October 7, 2014 #2 Share Posted October 7, 2014 I think you'd find zip lining in Roatan a much better zip than in Belize. Just MO. And just for kicks, look up "mangroves" in a gazetteer or Wikipedia. But yes, you can contact RonysTours or Victor Bodden and ask them about a tour to the southeastern part of the island. Maybe with a stop at a local place in French Harbor or Jonesville/Oakridge. Not sure if these guys have vehicles to take you up to Port Royal. But the eastern end is rarely seen by cruisers and there's not a lot there. Roatan is a beach/snokel/dive type of island. The gardens and trails at Gumbalinda Park might be of interest. Certainly the vista would be.

cowetamom Posted October 12, 2014 #4 Share Posted October 12, 2014 Santewellnessretreat.com We wanted something different and this place was fabulous. My husband and I both got massages and I got a facial. They had an awesome lunch and the property they are on is gorgeous. You can also snorkel there. Please go check it out, you won't regret it.:)

The mangroves are wonderful They are on the south east end of the island. You would need to get off the ship quickly. We liked Island Tours when we were there on a cruise. Ask for Norma. Ronys & Victors are also very good, just bigger. You should be able to ask them if they will take you to Oak Ridge for the Mangrove tour. It should not cost more than $10 a person. Then, have lunch at Temporary Cal’s Cantina on your way back to the ship. Fabulous food X 10. Awesome view X 10. Check Trip Adv - they have reviews of all of the restaurants & Cal’s in consistently #1.

Travel Junkie Judy Posted October 27, 2014 #7 Share Posted October 27, 2014 (edited) Blue Harbor may be of interest. We go to Blue Harbor Arboretum when we are there and it is beautiful. We go on non-ship days & we've hardly ever seen another person. It is free. It would not be a long ride from the Coxen Hole pier & tho a little further, not bad from Mahogany Bay. I highly recommend it for a relaxing day among the flowers, trees and ducks. It is usually not listed on tours, but drivers will know where it is. It is on the north side of the island. Ports are on the south side, but the island is only 4 -5 miles wide. If you go there in the AM, I suggest lunch in West End. Cafe Escondido or Tita's Pink Seahorse. Tita's is on a nice beach - not heavily used. No entrance fee. Take your bathing suits, towels & sun block. If you have a dive mask, you can snorkel from the beach. A hefty swim, but many do it. My husband as gone out there & enjoyed it. Escondido's is above a dive shop. Awesome food, but may be crowded on ship days. I'm not sure. Inexpensive for either. Travel Junkie Judy Posted October 27, 2014 #9 Share Posted October 27, 2014 Blue Harbor is not free according to their website. Maybe this is new? Hmmmmm, we were there in February, 2014 & there was no place to pay. We drove in, parked & started walking around. Maybe they consider that off-season??? We were the only ones there.
