How do you know that? I have not seen any announcement from the lab that tested her blood.

The Coast Guard picked up a blood sample yesterday, and it went out for immediate testing.

Came back negative.

They were the first off the ship this morning, and I was told you could see them on the webcam, coming off the gangplank with their luggage, at approximately 6:30 ET.

Every time I read these threads the amount of time increases....Eric Duncan died on October 8th...look it up! How do you get 21 days out of that???

Ummmm it is based upon when someone was exposed, not when he died. This whole episode is nothing more than a farce. Much to do about nothing. Wonder where are all the "the sky is falling, the sky is fallin" people now?

I agree, the hysteria is just like when AIDS/HIV came to be. Education people.

Why should people get a refund from Carnival if they decide to not go? The lab technician was totally cleared and has been 21 days. I would be there going if I was scheduled on the ship today. The media has turned this into a circus frenzy like with most things. Remember SARS, same thing happened!!

Apparently it's been 21 days since she handled a specimen from him, not since he died.

Today is the 21st day she could possibly be disease free. He was admitted to the hospital on Set. 28th. She got on the Magic on the 12th. That is only 14 days and she could have well been infected, still can as a matter of fact.

I pray she is not. But she shouldn't have gone on a cruise on the 14th day of self monitoring. She shouldn't have been cleared to travel on public transport until the 21st day...today! And we don't even know when his samples were handled. They may have still been testing his samples on Oct. 2nd or 3rd...anytime actually.

When you're dealing with something this lethal, doesn't it stand that being cautiously thorough is reasonable? That is not panic, it's smart thinking.

The woman has passed her 21 days without symptoms - I wouldn't have a problem being on the ship or even in the same cabin she was in.

I do feel sorry for her and her husband though. They spent most of their cruise confined to their cabin. I certainly hope they at least had a balcony - can you imagine being confined to an inside cabin????? You can't go to a show, the casino, lay around the pool, the lido or the diningroom. Unfortunate that their cruise hadn't been booked for a week later when her 21 days would have been done.

Perhaps Carnival should have let them stay on for another week. 21 days had passed symptom free and tests were negative.

From a health care stand point... purely panic

Way way overdone. By any reasonable measure. Caution is handling with care in all aspects, not notifying the entire world. As I previous said, they should be ashamed. Thank god we have an Ebola czar now with so much medical training.... We can all feel so much safer.

I for one never thought the sky was falling, however, I was most definitely of the camp that I didn't think that ship should disembark 4000 passengers until her blood results came back negative

mindboggling as to what would happen next if her blood was positive and thankfully it wasn't

I agree! I wonder if this person shopped at Walmart or a grocery store before going on board the ship. The blood work came back negative so there should be no fear. The media loves stuff like this.

It has been 21 days since she dealt with a specimen from Eric Duncan!!! Reading reliable newspapers instead of listening to television news, which these days is more like television hysteria, is much more informative!!!

I'm not on this sailing' date=' but I will be on her next week with no fears. I wouldn't even mind being in the same cabin she was in. I wish I was on the one that just got back. You get to go on an awesome cruise, get $200 credit, AND 50% on your next cruise? Just because they missed Cozumel which I have been to many times.....sign me up[/quote']

That was nice of Carnival to do this. I missed Freeport because of stupid tropical storm and got nothing from Carnival. Not every a discount on another cruise! :) They got a pretty good deal with $200 credit and 50% off next cruise.

It is in your contract that weather may force you to miss ports without compensation (except for port charges). Missing ports due to a possible Ebola breakout is another situation entirely and I am glad the passengers who were probably stressed out a bit were able to get an OBC and a future discounted cruise. They deserved it!

They did not look all that stressed from the videos from the ship (all for nothing as it turns out). They got a pretty good deal from Carnival for missing one port.

I think the compensation was deserving. This wasn't JUST about missing a port:(
