Quantum of the Seas - Maiden Transatlantic Voyage - Nov 2-10, 2014 - Live Report

It's not me that I am worried about, but my mother.

My daughter (age 9), Grandpa, and I will ALL be fine, but my mother is allergic to seafood and she also has a relatively narrow taste palate. For example, in American Icon my guess is she would have loved the short rib, but she won't like the apparent replacement (flank steak). And in Chic, there now appears to be a chicken dish she would like (whereas she dismissed the Chic menu before, which had nothing she was interested in).

I want to make my mother happy, and if I can identify which menu version (onboard or online) is the "right" one, then I can increase the chances of my Mom being happy at dinner... And what child does not want to make her mother happy (if she can manage it)??

The advantage of Dynamic Dining is that you can look at the menus offered at each restaurant the day you want to go. If you don't like the offerings, you cancel your reservation and make a new reservation (or stand-by) at a different restaurant where the menu is more to your liking. If nothing is desirable, you go to WindJammer.

The menu choices may change at anytime, so what it is now may or may not be there next week/month/year.

MENU CHANGES

Not a question for the Launchers, but a question for any RCCL "experts"...

So the menus on board differ from those on the web site. We made decisions based on the web site menus and I think my family might want to tweak if the on board menus are what will actually be operational for the coming months.

Does anyone have contact info at RCCL (email or otherwise) for someone who might actually know what's happening with the menus in the short term???

Try Quantum dining (877) 812-3612. Yeah, I selected American Icon for 4 night because of the surf & turf.

Then why have DD and reservations for an inaccurate future menu that can change at any time. If I want pizza I won't be happy with Mexican LOL LOL

Sorry I don't agree! No I won't change my choice of eating only to wait longer or miss a show, or some other activity!

Wind Jammer LOL LOL Then why go on the cruise!

If I can keep my mom happy, I would like to do so. Windjammer will certainly not make her happy, nor will waiting standby, when we were asked to make reservations well in advance (which we have done).

My question is a basic one - I just want to find out whether the menus on the website are being replaced with what's onboard so that we (as consumers) can make the best choice for us.

EDNJ - my guess is that you cannot answer my question... if anyone ELSE knows where I might inquire at RCCL, please let me know. Thank you very much!

Yes, I was thinking I should call DD. Unfortunately, I keep getting a busy signal today. (Perhaps it's "just me" and there's something wrong with my phone? Or perhaps they are so swamped with calls their system can't handle it?)

Was hoping for an email because I don't have to wait on hold...

But will keep trying the 877 number and hopefully it will open up... (my guess is the folks manning this line won't know the answer, but hopefully they can direct me up the "food chain" until I can locate someone who can provide me with information).

Thank you!

For anyone who uses the gym/spa are there spin classes available and if so did you happen to check the cost. Also do they have TRX.

Thanks for all the information, very generous of all of you to give up your vacation time to post here.

They have them both for a fee, but I didn't check the price. On past cruises the charge has been $20 to $25.

If I have to make reservations, I should be able to reserve where I want to eat, and know that what I want and get it. Not settle for something else. To say to sit back and relax, not knowing what I could have gotten in another restaurant since my first choice was changed, seems dumb.

This thread moves fast and questions get buried, or it becomes difficult to follow; but all of that is OK.

I did see some Compasses from this cruise and it appeared Windjammer was NOT 24 hours? I thought they had said WJ would be open 24 hours, or serving 24 hours breakfast type items? What are the actual hours, are things "off" because this is the first cruise, etc. This is just pitched to anyone in particular, thanks.

Northstar and Circus School pics are on the Shutterfly site!

Tracy

Thanks Tracy! I also just posted the pictures from your ride - internet has been really good today. Thank you again for waiting in the line to ride the Northstar so that we could get pics.

Northstar is running again today, but the line is really long. I hope that on future cruises (when days/times it's running are more known) there is a way to make reservations, or at least receive some type of device that calls you back when it's your turn to avoid spending time in line. In the Cafe @ Two70, when you order a sandwich, they give you buzzer that buzzes when your food is ready.

Still haven't tried the Circus School - fortunately, it's running everyday, so I'll give it a shot in the morning.

I uploaded a lot of pictures this morning from the last two days, and I'll post my catch-up review now. Q&A will take a little longer, so thanks for understanding.

Let's see where did I leave off?

Tuesday Night

1. After getting ready for dinner, we stopped at Vintages and had wine and tapas (photos of the menu and food are on Shutterfly). It's my favorite Vintages in the fleet with all the comfortable furniture and lounge areas.

2. We then went to the Bionic Bar, and I was able to order a drink. They were "pressure testing" the system, so all drinks were free. :) There are small tables around the bar with a touch screen that you hold your Seapass (or Wowband), and it logs you in. It does ask that you enter your birth year. There are a few attendants around that are also looking out for minors.

3. You can choose from favorite drinks or create your own.

4. For each bartender, there is a screen to the side that shows were your drink is in the queue. I have a video of it making mine that I'll post when I get home. It's fun to watch the bartender shake, but the "stir" was hilarious - imagine someone doing a hula-hoop dance.

5. Once your drink is poured, it's on a little conveyor, and to have it come to you, you have to hold your Seapass or Wowband at the end of the table, and it'll slide right to you. The robot makes a good drink. :)

6. Then we headed to Jamie's and sat in the area that's next to The Via. Absolutely gorgeous and peaceful. The food was very casual Italian in large portions; make sure you show up hungry. We also opted for the carafe of house wine (red) it was great. Pics are on the Shutterfly site.

7. After that we headed to the Music Hall and enjoyed the group that was playing there.

8. We decided to call it an early night, and we watched a movie in our cabin. Because of the rough seas, Royal removed the fee for pay-per-view movies so that those that needed to relax in their cabin would have more entertainment.

Wednesday

1. Woke up early and had breakfast in Coastal Kitchen and watched the Azores come into view. Breakfast was the best I've had on a ship in a while; definitely a nice suite perk. Later in the day, we heard other passengers remarking that there aren't many options for breakfast, so we were glad that we had this available to us.

2. Then we continued to explore the ship - found the Suite Sun Deck; the entrance is located just off the SeaPlex.

3. Grabbed a couple of beers and then settled in at Two70. Read for awhile and grabbed lunch at Cafe @ Two70 (love those roast beef sandwiches).

4. Then we went back to the cabin for a nap. DH went to play in the Royal Poker Tour tournament and had a good time.

5. Around 5pm, we had the Flash Mob Proposal - wow, Greg, you did an amazing job. Thank you to everyone that participated from our Roll Call; you guys are awesome. I was there videoing it and had tears running down my eyes. We later ran into Greg and Eve in the Concierge Lounge, and it was lovely catching up with them and their families. Always fun to celebrate those great moments.

6. After the Concierge Lounge, we went to dinner at Chops. Like Tracy, I don't like to sound like I'm complaining, but after eating at many Chops across the fleet, this meal was pretty terrible. I'm hoping it's because the food wasn't supplied from their usual suppliers. For example, the cut of meat was not great (very fatty), and my lobster was kinda sub-par (fishy, chewy). There was also broken glass next to our table that we had to ask our server to clean up. Again, this will get better in time, I know it.

7. After dinner, we went to the Casino and had fun; Lady Luck is still around.

Thursday

1. So far today, we've had breakfast in the Windjammer (again, typically WJ food), watched an excellent overview of Two70 by Nick Weir (I have some videos I'll post when we get home) - the technology is incredible. Royal spent more on the tech in Two70 than they did on the Sun Viking!

2. We're now sitting in the Concierge Lounge - Reyno and Mario are fantastic. They've had a lot to deal with on this cruise, and they've done it with a smile on their faces and extremely pleasant demeanor.

My laptop's running out of power - no plugs in the CL, so I'll sign off for now and report back on some general observations.

Thanks again for all your encouragement and enthusiasm! :)

Dining topic...one chef told me they will tweak menus as they go along. I've had a couple of good mini-smoothies at WJ and a refreshing cucumber soup, but so far haven't noticed any fruit ones anywhere. Here are menus from the Pub and Jamie's Italian.

Jamie's Italian... O.M.G! Just had lunch here and it was amazing. I see now why this place has been PACKED

Do you have to make reservations for lunch (in general)? I have 2 dinner reservations for Jamie's, but was considering changing one. Don't recall seeing lunch times when I reserved. (LOL - sorry I cut off some of your post when trying to shorten the quote.)

Has it been posted what's open for breakfast and lunch?
