Window Suite on Golden

Hello! We just got back from a 4 day cruise on the Golden. We had window suite F305. This was a "preview trip" for a 10 day Alaska cruise we are going on in June 2015 on the Golden and we booked window suite F311. We wanted to see if we'd like the suite and could spend 10 days in one (6 of which are sea days) or if we wanted to switch. We will be keeping the window suite!

If anyone has any questions about the windows, feel free to ask. I know there aren't many in the fleet and people are curious.

We are booked on the Caribbean Princess F307 next week. Did you experience any noise in the cabin, particularly because the casino is right above you? Is it advisable to bring a power strip (I read somewhere there is only one outlet in the room)? Were the mattresses comfortable, or should I request an egg crate (I do not like a hard mattress)? What suite amenities did you take advantage of? Are you able to use the Sanctuary pool area free of charge? Any pros and cons you can post would be appreciated. Thanks!

We loved having a window suite on the Golden for our Hawaii cruise! We have one booked again for Mexico next spring! You will need a power strip if you want to plug in more than one thing at a time. No noise from the casino at all. Favorite perk...breakfast at Sabatini's.

How about the mattress? Was it comfortable? I read somewhere that they are upgraded in the suites.

We were in the window suite in 2012 so I don't know what they have now. We were on the Golden in March in a mini suite and the bed was hard. Hopefully you'll hear from the OP. Enjoy!

We were in a WS this March on the Grand and the bed was the most comfortable I have had on Princess. There was a mattress topper and you could not feel the joint between the two mattresses. We have been in a WS on three cruises, twice before becoming Elite and once after. With the Elite perks, the only real perk, for us, is breakfast at Sabatini's. We found we were eating too much there and contributing to our cruise weight gain  We may be more inclined to book a mini or a balcony rather than a WS if we cruise on the Grand, Golden or Caribbean in the future.

We are in A window suite on the Grand right now.. Have been in them on the Golden in the past.. There is no problem from the Casino, but you might hear movement from Promenade Deck .. Nothing serious.. The beds are very comfortable and if you feel you need a softer bed..just ask your room steward to add a second mattress topper.. Don't forget, you have access to a pillow menu:D

Hello! Yes, I did hear noise from the casino a couple of nights - not sure what time as I didn't have a clock with me and couldn't see my watch. It wasn't bad and we always travel with ear plugs anyway. Heard no noise from anything else.

I thought the bed was comfortable, though I do like a firm mattress.

There are two outlets - one in the bathroom and one by the desk. I checked to see if you could access one behind the flat screen and you could not.

The Sanctuary pool was closed while we were on board and I think I only ever saw one or two people up there sitting in lounge chairs.

You get all the suite amenities. We did eat breakfast in Sabatini's but since it was only a 4 day, we didn't get the free specialty restaurant first night dinner. We will be sure to take advantage of this perk on the longer cruise.

We got three sets of the Lotus spa toiletries - one in the shower, one by the tub and one on the vanity. We did not order any nightly treats, though we could have. We took advantage of the free laundry service too.

The thing we liked best about the room was the size! There is also a tremendous amount of storage space - 22 drawers in the cabin area, two closets, space by the safe, etc. This would be great on a long cruise. The bath is also very spacious and I like the separate shower stall with the glass walls instead of the curtain.

We traded out some of our mini bar set up - this was easily done by calling room service.

We were wondering about the view from the windows - they were kept very clean and you could sit and watch the world go by.

The one thing we didn't like was the couch. It was very uncomfortable and the cushions kept slipping off. We sat in the chairs mostly - there are three - two desk chairs and one lounge chair. I wish they would of had two lounge chairs.

I was hoping to get a look at F311 to see if it was set up any differently, but never caught the door open :)

Small world, we were your next door neighbors in F307. We really liked the location which was so convenient to everything, and no noise at all. The amount of storage cabinets and drawers is unbelievable. The one outlet was an issue, but Ferdinand brought us a 25' orange industrial extension cord to string across the room for DH's CPAP machine.

What a sight!! We sorely missed the balcony, but the view from the large windows was extremely good. The blinds do raise up. For us, we are glad we did this once, but will probably not get it again. I'm afraid we will have to go for the full suite.:o For the most part, we had a very enjoyable cruise for our fourth time on the Golden. We are headed out to the 10 day Mexico on the Grand next week.

All the shampoo, etc. is still given you in the small tubes, and the jacuzzi tub was wonderful, the best I've been in.

Hey Ron and Linda! Glad you had a good cruise - enjoy your next one. Also glad I didn't say we didn't have any problems except for those noisy party people in F307 :)

It is a nice location.

Forgot that some people asked about smoke smell from the cigar bar. You could get a "light whiff" on occasion - but I was sniffing for it since I had seen the question asked. The smell was in the hallway and I never smelled it in the room.

We have been on the Golden in F311 twice and my only complaint was the couch cushions slipping, very comfortable beds. Although, the refrigerator was not working when we boarded, it was fixed later that day. We loved this cabin, quiet and far from the Cigar Bar.

Not so F301 on the Grand, lots of smoke and vibration. We also heard noise from the Promenade deck early in the morning. We would not book this smaller WS again.

Thanks for the post. I have been in three different WS cabins. By far, F311 is the best (closest to secret door, more midship, yet close enough to the "emergency bathroom down by the Princess Theater). Thanks for making sure everything was in working order for my upcoming cruise.

Sorry to hear they do not offer the specialty dining the first night. I enjoyed it in the past for 3 nighters. Looking forward to my WS on the Grand early next year. The Golden is a wonderful ship.

I have a WS booked next year on the Golden to Alaska (10 days) , I have only had balconies before and am worried I will miss the balcony. Reading other threads I see there are lovers of WS and others who like them but prefer a balcony. For the folks who have been in them who have had balconies and aren't elite (I'm not) , will I miss my balcony? I sail solo and love to retreat to my balcony to watch the world go by.

Hey Helen! I would say it would depend on the weather and how much time you usually spend on your balcony. I love sitting out there when the weather is nice, reading and having a drink. In the window suite, I sat in the comfortable chair and looked out the window. I was thinking how nice that will be in Alaska when the weather might not be so good. Still have a private view, but in the comfort of the room.

I guess it's a toss up. The window suite pricing on our two cruises where we had them booked were comparable to a mini suite. So, it's kind of a trade off - the window suite is much larger and you get the suite benefits. The mini has the balcony (and also two TVs, but if you're traveling alone, that might not matter much) but no suite benefits.

I thought I would miss the balcony because we always book mini suites, but I didn't. When we sailed to Hawaii our crossing was cool and windy so we didn't miss it then. When we were in Hawaii, we were off the ship every day. I'm not sure I would book a window suite in the Caribbean when it's so nice to sit outside. We did book one for our upcoming 10 day Mexico cruise so we'll see if I miss a balcony then.

Thanks for replying. I was happy with the WS then noticed that C752 was free an Aft balcony and started 2nd guessing myself. As in - do I really need a suite to myself and how great would an aft balcony be in Alaska!!

Yes ha ha 1st world problem.

I'm on The Diamond in a week ( I need more FCCs) and if the cabin is still free I'll have the think hard. If it's gone - I can't complain cause I'll be in a suite :)

Yes, it is quite the problem to have, isn't it? Saw you said 10 day on the Golden to Alaska. It wouldn't happen to be the June 11th one out of San Francisco would it? That's the one we're on. If you end up getting the aft, you can come take a look at F311 if you'd like.

Anyway, any room, any cruise - always a good time -

I think that all but F301 and F315 are virtually identical. We've been in 303 and 311 and prefer 311 because it's further away from the noisiest door. When we were in 303 we closed the door at night because we could hear people in the elevator lobby and coming back from the cigar lounge or theater. Then people would come in the hall and let it bang shut behind them. Once we moved to 311 we never heard a thing other than the occasional heavy-footed person on the Promenade Deck above us.

I enjoy the WS on a short cruise, but would miss my balcony on a longer one. Even in cold weather, I like to be out in the fresh air - I just bundle up.

We were in F315 back in february(buenosaires to valparaisio). It's probably the best location on the entire ship. It's a handicapped room with two large windows.

The only problem we had was departing from falkland islands in heavy seas.

The vibration from the stabilizers was unreal for a few hours.

long cruiser

We were in that suite last month. No noise at all from the casino or anywhere else. A power stripe will be handy. Beds very comfortable. You will need to pay for the sanctuary. But the Lotus adult pool is free although there are only a few lounges and they go early in the AM.

I felt the best part of the suite was breakfast at Sabatini's. The first night dinner is also nice. We had ours in the steak house. We are Elite and already get most of the other perks. You can trade the bar set up for wine or coffee cards. You can also order room service from the dining room menu but it is nicer if you have a balcony.

If you keep the roses they give you on formal nights in the fridge, they will last all week.

I asked for extra chocolates on my pillow instead of the chocolate covered strawberries.

The linings on the draperies were tattered and 1 of the window shades was broken and never fixed.

The doors in and out of the hallway are very heavy and hard to open or close. especially the middle doors. we found it easier to use those on the ends of the hallway. We did think it was a convenient location.

It was not as nice a suite as the balcony suites we had on newer ships. But the price was also much less.
