Just back from a cruise on the Carnival Liberty

We were on the Carnival Liberty from Oct. 25 to Nov. 1. The reviews only gave this ship a 79% approval rate, but we had a wonderful time and did not have the issues the reviewers had. The ship was clean, the staff was upbeat and helpful, the entertainment was good, the service in the dining room was excellent, our cabin steward did his job and provided anything we asked for, and the food was good.

The one thing that Carnival could work on is that with the smoking change in effect, the smell of smoke from the Casino permeates that end of the Promenade. I am not suggesting that the smokers not smoke there since this a designated indoor smoking area, but that Carnival do something to channel the smell of smoke from the Promenade.

We had the American Table menu in the dining room and everyone at our table was happy with the appetizer menu each day. The entrées were a matter of taste and some went to the daily offerings instead. They also had a regional menu for the island we visited, and I tried this twice and enjoyed it. For most entrees, you select a vegetable from the list, if none is listed with the entrée. We all thought it would be good make some variations on the vegetable list. It has the same six choices each day. There was a basket of rolls on the table that we shared. The desserts went over well at our table. People seemed satisfied overall with the menu at our table.

The ship was decorated for Halloween and on Halloween itself, a number of people wore costumes. It was fun seeing all the costumes.

We had two sea days at the start of the cruise and this was delightful for me. We enjoyed the ports of Curacao, Aruba and Turks and Caicos. We had a sea day between Aruba and Turks and Caicos and one more going back to Port Canaveral.

We happy we ignored the reviews and selected this ship!

Thanks for your review. I personally loved the Liberty. Those approval ratings dont really give an accurate idea IMO. I do pay more attention to the member reviews as well as the reviews that people like you post on these message boards. I see consistently good to very good and excellent reviews on the Liberty right here on CC. Glad you had a good time on my favorite ship:)

I was on the Liberty twice this past summer and have a cruise booked for December. It is a good ship with a friendly crew that tries to do its best. Obviously I have enjoyed the exprience or would not be taking another cruise on this ship. That being said, different people see things differnetly. I am saying this in a nice way. Certain people give a bad review if there is bad weather on the cruise. Or there was a line to get on and off the boat. Unless I read about a glaring problem that is repeated in these postings I pretty much go and make up my own mind. Some people like Carnival pricing and then complain that they are not getting Crystal or Regent line treatment. I find those postings humorous reading.

I got off the ship on 10/25/14. I loved the ship. But, wondering, did you feel ALOT of movement? We felt alot more movement on this ship then any other we had been on. My bestfriend was on it two weeks before me and said there was alot of rocking when she was on it. So, wondering if it's just the ship and like that all the time?

I too, have sailed "Liberty" three times this year, and will be boarding for another FANTASTIC cruise on Friday! ;) I've never noticed any more motion aboard this ship, than any other? Perhaps it was just a windy week?

Air conditioning in my cabins (always inside cabins) has been outstanding, and as a matter of fact, I've always had to turn it down as it was WAY too cold in the cabin.

I personally, LOVE "Liberty", its crew, entertainment, and food. Truly a GREAT cruise.

Hi Neighbor!

Seems we live in the same town. :)

My husband and I will be on the Liberty in January.....we are wondering how the A/C was? In your cabin and throughout the ship. Was it cool enough?

Thanks.

Hi u2harmony,

The A/C on the ship was great. The ship took on the hot southern Caribbean fine. Public areas were cool, the dining room was almost too cool sometimes, and our cabin stayed cool as we adjusted the thermostat. No problems with the A/C that I noticed. We were on deck 8, midship.

What fun to find that someone else from Overland Park is on CC! Not too many of us that I have seen!

We were on this sailing also. We had a great time. Ship was clean, food was great, room steward was a ghost, but our room was always clean and ice in bucket.

When we got on the ship, the cheers program was 49.95 was disappointed because we thought it was 37.95. They must have had a lot of complaints. They changed it back to the 37.95 for that sailing. So we were able to get it the 2nd day for 603.00.

Halloween was fun watching all the costumes.

Aruba, curacao, and grand turk were beautiful. Weather was fantastic.

SkyMaster, We have also sailed onboard the Liberty three times and the last one was in May. Really enjoyed "Music Boardwalk" band in the casino. Do you know if there will be a cover band onboard in December?:) Pink

We cruised Liberty at the end of September , Aruba, curacao and grand Turk - in 18 cruises with Carnival, this is the first time we were unhappy! Our cabin was just plain hot! From the time we boarded to when we left. You could hear the A/C vent was closed and feel there was VERY little air coming out. Maintenance took the temp of the room (several degrees above "tolerance" ) but nothing changed. This was our 2nd cruise on Liberty, the first was perfect in every way. Last left us droopy from being unable to sleep well and cranky with Carnival. On the other hand we quite enjoyed the menu changes, the Alchemy Bar, and our dining room staff was wonderful. We're still complaining to Carnival, however.:(

We were also on this cruise on Liberty and everything was fantastic!!! Food, Band in Casino (where we spend a LOT of time!) was great, weather was wonderful and the islands beautiful. We actually won in the casino on ship and on Aruba and Curacao!!! Loved the Liberty so much that we are booked January 3rd on her for another 8 nights!!! Room temp was whatever we set it at and was no problem at all. #6433.

Actually, I have no idea, but I'd bet they will have "Music Boardwalk", or another of the "Music" bands aboard. I too enjoyed them, and made it a point to visit them every evening.

Perhaps I'll see you aboard again soon. I'm sailing again tomorrow! Come on along! ;)

I sailed in May also and loved Music Boardwalk. Sadly they left in July. I believe the group on there now is Music Mix (possibly Mix Music). I saw a review that really liked them but hard to find any more info.

I'll be on Liberty again Nov 28. Can't wait...just love the Liberty.

Just realized I met you on board 5/09? Just recognized your name :)

We were on this sailing also...only real problem was the wait staff in the silver dinning room. One night we ordered and got our appetizers but once we got them the wait staff disappeared for 45 minutes and all the other stations around us were getting their desserts and we still didn't have our entrees. We were told a snafu in the kitchen. Thats all well and fine (I work in the food industry so I understand) but the staff could have come out and told us. After we got the entrees they rushed us through that and desserts so they could set up for late seating.

We were on the same cruise and I can say the crew and ship were fantastic. We were in the golden dinning room and had the best service on Carnival yet. The "American Table " menu was OK but nothing to write home about. I had an up charge steak but would go to the Steakhouse the next time. It may have been a Prime steak but not like in the Steakhouse. Our cabin temperature was no problem controlling and I found it a little cold at times (cabin 7265). All and all it was a great cruise and we enjoyed it very much.

We were on this sailing as well, and most loved being in the sports bar watching the World Series games, even though "our boys" from KC didn't win.

Were any of you from OP, KS in there watching as well?

DW and I are from the other side of the metro, and thoroughly enjoyed the cruise and wearing our Royals gear around the ship.

A couple of gals we saw in the sports bar even went as far as finding us in the aft dining room to update us on the score of one of the games! We hurried through dinner to get to the sports bar...Priceless!

Were you clear in the back of the aft dinning room on the starboard side? We were back there kind of in the middle.

We also had a fantastic Southern Caribbean cruise on the Liberty over Halloween. Our waiters in the upper Golden restaurant were among the best we have had on any cruise. The ship was clean and the staff very friendly. The only issue was the smoke from the casino. Carnival definitely does need to figure out a way to vent the cigarette smoke away from the promenade area.
