we3peas Posted November 25, 2014 #1 Share Posted November 25, 2014 We got a call about this offer for a free inside cabin for Jan.4-5 day cruise. Deal is supposed to be free cabin except for taxes and port charges. What does this really entail? I saw some old threads but nothing recent. Is there anything else that happens with this offer? My husband is the one who uses the casino but he is no high roller. Why was he selected? Just trying to figure this out and if it's a good deal. san diego sue Posted November 25, 2014 #2 Share Posted November 25, 2014 (edited) Don't know the details but on a recent cruise while shopping in gift shop person before me was a VIP. Salesperson told me that they get an additional 10%shopping (and they were Elite too, and got that discount as well). cattolica Posted November 25, 2014 #3 Share Posted November 25, 2014 We got the same call yesterday. The details you have are correct. There are no additional perks. You can upgrade to other cabins for a fee. We were told for a balcony cabins it would be $40 more for a 4-day and $50 more for the 5-day. There were prices for Obstructed OV and OV as well but didn't pay attention to the cost. The dates he gave me were for MOST of Jan. When I looked at the list against the calendar he did not include the sailings at the very end of Jan. We are going to pass on the offer since we just got off a B2B of two 5 days. It is free except taxes and port charges. You cant go out and eat for 5 nights for that price. My sister and I booked it. Very excited
beg3yrs Posted November 25, 2014 #5 Share Posted November 25, 2014 Don't know the details but on a recent cruise while shopping in gift shopperson before me was a VIP. Salesperson told me that they get an additional 10%shopping (and they were Elite too, and got that discount as well). The gift shop VIP program is different from that of the casino. I was surprised on my last cruise to receive a note in my cabin inviting me to a champagne celebration in the jewelry store, Facets. This is where I received the VIP 10% card good only for the current cruise. Turns out it was because I had made a large purchase on the cruise before (jewelry for a birthday and wedding anniversary). I then purchased another piece of jewelry and got the 10% VIP, 10% Elite and the first two days 10% discount as well. That nets to a 27% discount. Very nice! Sorry, I don't know what the spend threshold is.
san diego sue Posted November 25, 2014 #6 Share Posted November 25, 2014 Thanks for explaining that. I had asked the girl in shop how to get VIP and she didn't know. Since I never make huge purchases on the ship, will probably not ever get that status. Now for the Casino VIP,I would grab that if offered. Anniesails Posted November 25, 2014 #7 Share Posted November 25, 2014 I just received the call today. I was wondering if there is a required amount of gambling that you have to do once on board????
we3peas Posted November 25, 2014 Author #8 Share Posted November 25, 2014 Thanks for the replies. I was thinking it was a too good to e true kind of offer. I think we will jump on it.
Iamcruzin Posted November 25, 2014 #9 Share Posted November 25, 2014 My SIL received this offer and never set foot in the casino. They have been sailing more frequently lately because they live in Florida and have been able to grab some of the great last minute deals on these short cruises. I wonder how long Princess is going to be able to support these short itineraries. Seems like they are always giving them away with OBC on top of it. RMM34667 Posted November 25, 2014 #10 Share Posted November 25, 2014 I got a call from Princess Friday night and they were looking for my sister. Tonight they called me looking for my mother. Nothing for me yet . But right at this moment we have two Caribe deck balconies (in the Aft section) on hold with a cabin fare of $50 pp. If Mom is up to it we will be booking! I wonder if I picked ANY balcony it would be $50 - maybe I can get one closer to midship. Less walking for Mom would be great! Well maybe tomorrow they will call me looking for my brother and I will ask. (I made all the last bookings and used my phone number and email address). I was wondering if there is a required amount of gambling that you have to do once on board???? I received an email confirmation (for my sister) that states: (Oceanview and Balcony cabins are also being offered at fantastic fares from as low as $10 per person!) Government fees and taxes must be paid by the passengers, however, there is no minimum to play in the casino at all!

cattolica Posted November 25, 2014 #13 Share Posted November 25, 2014 Looked it up on the Princess website. Taxes and fees are anywhere from $81 to $97 depending on the cruise. Gratuities would be $11.50 a day. Sounds like a great deal. Curious though, what are the taxes, port charges and standard gratuities for the cruise? Gratuities would be $11.50 a day. Usually the taxes and fees are per person. Same with gratuities though daily. Still sounds like a bargain. My last cruise was a year ago on a different line, the taxes and port fees were included in the price. My upcoming excursion on Princess has a $336 per person tax and port fee per person not shown in the ticket price except for an asterisk. That's why I asked. Enjoy your cruise! pmcue Posted November 26, 2014 #16 Share Posted November 26, 2014 I just received the call today. I was wondering if there is a required amount of gambling that you have to do once on board???? I have inquired in past via casino about free cruise and they did offer but there was minimum on number of hours gambling each day at a specific table minimum. Not sure this is same but if coming from Casino inwould read fine print. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Forums mobile app

Iamcruzin Posted November 26, 2014 #20 Share Posted November 26, 2014 Give it a shot. The worst they can say is no. Seems like they are scrambling to fill these ships in January. I received a brochure yesterday 50% off plus OBC. It's practically a free trip. All the dates for the promo were in January.

cruisen JJ Posted November 27, 2014 #24 Share Posted November 27, 2014 I got an email yesterday with the offer. We booked a 4 day out of LA in a balcony mid ship on Aloha deck for $115 total per person.
enyliram Posted December 2, 2014 #25 Share Posted December 2, 2014 I got the call. I got the e mail. I did not get the booking that I am liking. currently have hold on balcony for jan3 and jan 8. theses were only avail balcony dates from ft Lauderdale. .when I googled the ship dates there is a large group of jr. hockey players on the jan3 sail date with activities planned that would seem to indicate some parts of the ship might be off limits to regular passengers for the hockey players events. so I have till tonite to decide . the jan8th cruise is for 4 nights and the jan 3rd is a 5 nighter. this is a lovely ship and in was on it in sept. since this is the first time I have ever received an invitation as a casino VIP I would like to take advantage of it.
