elliekate Posted December 3, 2014 #1 Share Posted December 3, 2014 A friend on our cruise was just informed from AA that her return flight from MIA to Dallas on 2/28/15 was cancelled and they put her on a 9:40 AM flight. (This flight was booked approximately nine months ago!) That would be definitely pushing it to get there from the ship! The only other option was for her to use more of her Advantage miles for a later flight or drive to West Palm and catch a flight from there. Has anyone had similar problems? Any suggestions? It just doesn't seem fair that AA would not work with her considering the length of time it has been booked!
Phxazzcruisers Posted December 3, 2014 #2 Share Posted December 3, 2014 If AA cancelled the flight they should put her on a later one that day for no extra charge. That is what they have always done for me in the past when they cancelled the flight. I believe there are also rules about that.
Karynanne Posted December 3, 2014 #3 Share Posted December 3, 2014 We had this occur this past summer, and AA changed our flight without any additional charges. Have your friend speak with a supervisor. Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app

WALKER1313 Posted December 3, 2014 #5 Share Posted December 3, 2014 This has something related to a Celebrity cruise? Flights changes be flight changes.
WestLakeGirl Posted December 3, 2014 #6 Share Posted December 3, 2014 Call American Airlines. Although you wrote that AA would not work with her, so has that already been tried? If so, call back and get to a supervisor
Bobocasey Posted December 3, 2014 #7 Share Posted December 3, 2014 Always talk to a supervisor they usually will work with you. She didn't make the change AA did not her fault.
Lsimon Posted December 3, 2014 #8 Share Posted December 3, 2014 (edited) This has happened to us to a couple times over the years. The first customer service reps I've talked to at the airlines always were very helpful and immediately switched us to a flight that worked without any change in airfare after we explained that we were getting off a cruise and couldn't make the earlier flight. Never had any hassle at all other than having to make the phone call and figure out the next best flight they had. Once we even got switched to a flight we wanted in the first place but was too high a cost if we picked it directly. If your friend has already asked about this then they should try calling back and talking to someone else. floatplan Posted December 3, 2014 #9 Share Posted December 3, 2014 The only other option was for her to use more of her Advantage miles for a later flight or drive to West Palm and catch a flight from there. It sounds like she bought her ticket with miles? Since the schedule changed she can get all of her miles back without the normal $150 restocking fee. Then of course she has to buy a flight. Glendakayself Posted December 3, 2014 #10 Share Posted December 3, 2014 i agree that calling AA is the answer. We have experienced two canceled flights at the end of cruises, rescheduled with a phone call and paid nothing extra in miles, change fees, or flight costs. I believe once we had to pay a few dollars in airport taxes because we had to make a new connection with the change. (Cancelled flight was non-stop.) Make sure the agent understands that the original flight was canceled and that the new flight was assigned, not chosen. Goog luck!

Flights changes be flight changes. Yes -- making post-cruise flights can be a huge issue for many folks. And having the airline change your carefully chosen flight plans doesn't make things any easier. OP -- Hope that American Airlines steps up and helps your cruisemate. Also -- if she booked through a TA, they should be able to reschedule her flight. Edited December 3, 2014 by wwcruisers
