Bancos01 Posted November 25, 2014 #1 Share Posted November 25, 2014 Looking for a Hotel in Hong Kong pre cruise, not sure if it makes sense to stay close to the airport or the Kai Tak terminal; will be there two days prior to departure. Thanks.
TN Vol Fan Posted November 25, 2014 #2 Share Posted November 25, 2014 Last year we stayed at the YMCA's Salisbury right downtown. Very comfortable. It was very convenient for we sailed from the downtown pier, not the new one. Still it was a great price, nice restaurant and easy to get to the ferry for sightseeing. You would have to get a cab to the new terminal. Check it out.
loeb Posted November 25, 2014 #3 Share Posted November 25, 2014 I would not stay by the airport, it is away from the main areas of Hong Kong. Also the cruise terminal if a bit away from the hotels, main shopping areas and other tourist attractions. See the following site for information about Hong Kong
Rare Hlitner Posted November 25, 2014 #4 Share Posted November 25, 2014 In Hong Kong we would want to right downtown. One could certainly debate whether to stay on Kowloon or the other side, but being near the water (and Star Ferry) is very handy and its fun to walk out of your hotel and be right in the heart of the city. Friend100 Posted November 25, 2014 #5 Share Posted November 25, 2014 If you have 2 days, stay in the city. At TripAdvisor look up hotels in the Tsim Sha Tsui district. Taxi is inexpensive and convenient around the city.
johhnnyt Posted November 25, 2014 #6 Share Posted November 25, 2014 Hotel Icon outstanding in every regard and rated one of the best on trip advisor as well. Service on a par as a Mandarin Oriental, but priced like a Hilton
notjaded Posted November 25, 2014 #7 Share Posted November 25, 2014 Recommend the Conrad.

We're The Groupnors Posted November 25, 2014 #9 Share Posted November 25, 2014 Recommend the Conrad. We were at the Island Shangri-La, which was outstanding. It is attached to the Conrad and the JW Marriott by the same mall. Very convenient to get to TST and Kowloon by subway, and an easy walk to the Star Ferry as well. Merriem Posted November 25, 2014 #10 Share Posted November 25, 2014 We stayed at the Mandarin Oriental. It was a lovely hotel. They upgraded us to a fantastic suite, but the standard rooms are very nice, and our package included breakfast.
cle-guy Posted November 25, 2014 #11 Share Posted November 25, 2014 My favorite hotel is the Intercontinental. It has a great view of the magical harbor and its nightly light show. It's walking distance to the ferries too. I ALWAYS stay at Marriott hotels, but in Hong Kong, make an exception.

Closer to the Star Ferry than the Peninsula which is right next door. Being a YMCA there is no bar, but there's plenty of time for that on the ship. Get a room facing the water so you can enjoy the light show.
Earl Rosebery Posted December 10, 2014 #14 Share Posted December 10, 2014 Another vote for the Salisbury. Best location in town- 5 minute stroll from the Star ferry which you will take repeatedly to get back and forth to HK island.
sandy999 Posted December 29, 2014 #15 Share Posted December 29, 2014 We stayed at the royal pacific hotel and towers. Over the road from the star ferry. Shopping centre close, and shops under the hotel. We took the train from the airport to Kowloon then a free shuttle bus dropped us outside the hotel 5 mins away. Nice hotel and great location. Plan to stay here on my next trip
