larcklorn Posted December 4, 2014 #1 Share Posted December 4, 2014 Is there a company or tour option that would allow my wife and I to see the best of both islands? Never been before and in port for 1 day 9 to 5. I see the tons of options available, just no idea how to pick between it all.
Ms411 Posted December 4, 2014 #2 Share Posted December 4, 2014 (edited) You would have to do it on your own and not spend any time at a beach. You could reserve a private tour of St Thomas for 2 hours at approximately $25 pp, and ask that you be dropped at Red Hook ferry after tour. Take ferry to St John and take a 2 hour tour with no beach stop for approximately $25 pp. Ferry and taxi back to ship on your own. Total cost for 2 approximately $150. O2B@Cagain Posted December 5, 2014 #3 Share Posted December 5, 2014 Which both? There are four US Virgin Islands- St. Croix, St. John, St. Thomas and Water Island.;) It is pretty easy to see any two except St. Croix, which is a plane ride away from St. Thomas... St. Thomas/St. John would be the two in question. Looking for recommendations on what to see at both or is it not worth it and I should just focus on one big activity (catermeran, snorkling, diving, hiking, etc.). O2B@Cagain Posted December 5, 2014 #5 Share Posted December 5, 2014 Okay, well, you would have a whirlwind tour, so if you just want to look, you could probably get an island tour, get dropped off at Red Hook, take the ferry, get a north shore tour, return. If you want to relax, I would suggest picking one island, then returning to see the rest during a land based vacation.
blue_water Posted December 5, 2014 #6 Share Posted December 5, 2014 I'd concentrate on 1 island, and your choice depends on you. STT offers nice beaches with great snorkeling, duty free shopping, and daysail options, many of which go to the cays off STJ. While STJ offers nice beaches with good snorkeling, more laid back shopping, and the trip there which adds to the experience. Snorkeling is a very popular option at this port because you have the East End beaches of STT for off the beach snorkeling (Coki, Sapphire, Secret Harbor, and Cowpet), and the excellent daysails that moor off STJ for great snorkeling. With just 8 hrs in port we'd chose a beach on STT for snorkeling. If an island tour is something you'd like to do you can include a beach stop. You'll find other threads on tour companies, and there is a private guide that we recommend in those threads if you want that option. You can also just hire a taxi driver for a tour at the dock, all very easy.
