bling19572010 Posted December 10, 2014 #1 Share Posted December 10, 2014 I've been reading a lot of reviews on cruise critic and the majority of them are so negative. Please tell me it ain't so??? nednrom Posted December 10, 2014 #2 Share Posted December 10, 2014 I've been reading a lot of reviews on cruise critic and the majority of them are so negative. Please tell me it ain't so??? We leave in February and I hope they get a sufficient number of employees to provide quality service and get things organized before our trip. http://www.cruisecritic.com/memberreviews/getreviews.cfm?action=ship&ShipID=368 I take all reviews with a grain of salt. I've learned very early on not to let little things bother me -- a vacation is supposed to be stress free and relaxing. If for example, the service is slow at dinner, I let the Maitre'd know and normally that takes care of it. I take into account 2 things: 1) people have a tendency to write what went wrong with their trip as opposed to what went right and what was good ( please don't think I'm saying this about all the reviews here), and 2) food, service, quality are subjective -- if I have to take my desert with me and run for the show because the service was slow one night (has happened before), I don't really make an issue out of it -- so be it. I'm not saying that I treat all issues non-chalantly. The one thing that I really was perturbed about was the fact that the show times were changed effecting dinner reservations and noone was notified. I'll be on her on January 3rd and I can smell and hear the ocean already :)

It's all in the attitude and the company you keep :) Plan on having a grand ole' time. I have not been on the Oasis but have been on the Allure, her sister ship, twice and had a ball!! Rare mcatmcat Posted December 10, 2014 #6 Share Posted December 10, 2014 I went to the oasis and allure and I prefer oasis. In my opinion royal is not the place to find young people but I felt that Allure had a more mature cruisers. The club was empty the whole week but casinos were full. Oasis and allure is a different concept from the rest of the ship and also remember that allure is not longer the royal caribbean baby, they now have the quantum I don't believe you will find a bad service with royal but the best of the best will be in the quantum now Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app
luvbrady Posted December 10, 2014 #7 Share Posted December 10, 2014 We went last April and had a wonderful time. As you might expect, certain venues will be busier at certain times. My kids loved the Park Café, but we typically avoided it at high noon.... My feeling is that it's VACATION. So what if it takes a bit longer, someone ELSE is doing it FOR me! And, really. Where have I got to go anyhow? I will admit- I despise crowds (Windjammer on boarding day- AAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!). So I was worried about being with so many humans :p. Never felt overwhelmed that I recall. And as another poster pointed out- if it was a problem pretty sure I would recall it!
Grand PooBah Posted December 10, 2014 #8 Share Posted December 10, 2014 Just returned Saturday from our 5th cruise on Oasis. Found nothing to be different from past cruises. Fabulous ship, excellent staff. Had some rough weather, but can't blame Royal for that. Go have a great time.

I've been watching for a long time and by far most are positive. The ship just came back from a refurbishemment and there were a lot of problems associated with that including boarding the worlds largest cruise ship in ports it had never been, and some changes weren't finished before the trip back to the US, something most of those people knew could happen. The ship remains one of the most popular.

nelblu Posted December 10, 2014 #11 Share Posted December 10, 2014 I've been on both Oasis & Allure and enjoyed them both. Never felt crowded, other than the shows in the Promenade. I know what to expect, therefore, I stay away from that venue. I'm so concerned with the bad reviews, that I've booked one in Feb. and the other in March 2016. I want to take advantage of Oasis before it goes to China.
Pandabear90 Posted December 10, 2014 #12 Share Posted December 10, 2014 Like others have said, people tend to write the one or two negative aspects of their trip and not highlight what actually went right... bunch of negative nancys' if you ask me ;) and really...its what YOU make of your trip...you can be on the BEST boat ever and have a bad time. Don't worry about what others have to say, get on the boat and have a good time.
deliver42 Posted December 10, 2014 #13 Share Posted December 10, 2014 I was on the Oasis last December, and had a wonderful cruise. The only time it was crowded was for the parades. Great crew and captain with a sense of humor.

RedHeadTexan Posted December 11, 2014 #15 Share Posted December 11, 2014 I got off the Oasis on Saturday and had a wonderful time. I thought the ship was impressive and the staff was great. I have been on cruises with friends in the past where I have wondered if we were really on the same cruise...all they did was nit pick everything. There are legitimate complaints and then there are the nit-pickers. I wrote my review on the board and the link is in my signature. Lisa

tdk Posted December 11, 2014 #17 Share Posted December 11, 2014 I totally agree with the rest ...it's all about attitude. I have never been on a bad cruise ever ...some I like better than others but it's a vacation ..I'm not at work! You will always without fail find the negative people that love to complain about something because they have nothing better to do.
jewliana Posted December 13, 2014 #18 Share Posted December 13, 2014 Just got off this morning and have to say I was blown away! Everything was way beyond my expectations including the food in the MDR which I thought was delicious every night! The only thing we did not enjoy was the production of Cats :-)
rusty nut Posted December 13, 2014 #19 Share Posted December 13, 2014 Usually, when we're on a cruise, inevitably, the biggest complaints we have are with other passengers and their rude behavior. Very rarely do we find fault with the ship or its staff.

Rare ken4556 Posted December 13, 2014 #21 Share Posted December 13, 2014 We just got off the Oasis last Saturday (Dec 6) and the ship is fantastic. The food and service were excellent. We went to Chops one night and had one of the best meals we have ever had. CATS is excellent; don't give up after the intermission. The second half of the show is much better than the first. Come Fly with Me, in my opinion, is the best show at sea and should not be missed. The ice show and aqua show are also fantastic. I talked to a couple people who were not happy with the Oasis while we were on-board. They, in a nut shell, did not like having a different cruise experience. They did not make reservations for the shows and did not like having then to wait in line. One lady made the comment that the ship's Royal Promenade is way too crowded. She said this while we have 55 knots of wind on deck and its pouring down rain in the middle of the afternoon. Of course it will be crowed inside, just like another ship when the weather is bad outside. Another person said they did not like paying for food at every venue. I mentioned that Park Cafe and the Wipe Out Cafe are free; Johnny Rockets has free Breakfast, and the Solarium Bistro has free breakfast and lunch. They looked at me in almost shock and and said, "We only thought the Windjammer and the Dining Room were free." People sometimes worry me! :-) All the people I talked with were older and it sounded like they did not research the cruise experience on-board the Oasis. They were used to the limited offerings on many smaller ships and more traditional cruise lines. Just go and prepared to have a blast and take time to ride the Flowrider, it is a blast! cindyscruise Posted December 13, 2014 #22 Share Posted December 13, 2014 You will have a great time. I agree with the poster who said people don't research their ship before they go or they don't read the compass. all the food options and cost are listed there. Prebook your shows to avoid standing in lines or being disappointed if the time you want to go is full. There is so much to do. There are also many little nooks and crannies where you can find quiet time if that is what you want. explore the deck plans before you go so you don't waste time locating things. I love the bigger ships and I was one of those who said "I will never sail those big ships". Actually I was one of those who said I would never cruise. Have a great time. SuiteTraveler Posted December 13, 2014 #23 Share Posted December 13, 2014 (edited) Oasis is a fantastic ship. The only thing really getting mixed reviews is "Cats". If you are not familiar with the show, Google it on the internet or look at some scenes from Youtube and decide if you want to see it or not. It's kind of an unusual show because it doesn't have a compelling or obvious story line, but on the other hand, it was the longest running Broadway show ever until it was surpassed by Chicago which was surpassed by Phantom of the Opera in 2006. I personally have mixed feelings about RCCL staging Cats. I think that something more lighthearted and easy to follow like Grease or Spamalot would have been a better choice for a cruise ship. Time will tell. Still I applaud RCCL for putting on full length productions of musicals with professional casts. I hope someday in the future they will consider putting on plays as well - especially comedies such as Neil Simon's various plays. I believe that customers would really enjoy that. As to Oasis, if you are expecting a traditional cruise ship, you will be disappointed. If you are expecting something amazing and completely different, if you make your dining and entertainment reservations, if you go to enjoy, I think you will be thrilled. On our first trip on Oasis, on disembarkation day, the first thing my husband and I did upon getting off the ship was look at each other and say, "That was amazing! Let's go again!" #bbfam Posted December 14, 2014 #24 Share Posted December 14, 2014 I'm super excited, but I too get nervous because I do NOT like crowds. So far I've learned - * avoid Windjammer on embarkation day * make reservations for shows before boarding (done!) * avoid peak dining times * treat yourself to specialty restaurants for a more chill dining experience Any other tips? What is a good plan for breakfast on port days? That sounds scary too. Rcarper4001 Posted December 14, 2014 #25 Share Posted December 14, 2014 We also do not like crowds. Even with reservations arrive 20 mins early for your shows. 10 mins before the show they let in everyone without reservations. We used the stairs during peak elevator times. Johnney Rockets and the Park Cafe for breakfast, was quick and no crowds for us. We avoided the windjammer the entire cruise. Have a great cruise:)
