Just back from Liberty

Recommended Posts

This was our 3rd time on LOS and we loved it just as much as the first time. There are many reviews so I'm only going to highlight certain items.

Embarkation

We got to the port at 11 am and were onboard by 11:20. Irrespective of the multiple emails and texts I received from RCI saying to board later, there was an announcement around noon thanking those passengers who took advantage of early boarding!!

Stateroom

We were in a junior suite (9634). Great location, mid-ship, very close to the stairs and the elevators. Nice size balcony.

Dining

For the past few years, we have skipped the MDR for dinner entirely. We just don't have the patience for long meals. The Windjammer is fine for us. Plenty of choices and tasty food. Also, lots of Indian selections every day which are very good. We had breakfasts in the WJ and MDR which were good. As long as they keep serving lox and cream cheese bagels, I'm happy. We also had a complimentary dinner in Chops, courtesy of Club Royale. The food was good but nothing to rave about IMHO. "They" say to allow 2-3 hours but we were in and out in an hour.

Entertainment

We loved the "In the Air" show. We've seen various versions of it on other ships but this was by far the best production with amazing aerial performers. Not to be missed.

We walked out of Saturday Night Fever after 15 minutes or so. The lead "Tony" was awful in our opinion -- terrible voice and not a great dancer. And, although the Royal Caribbean orchestra is very good the volume was way too loud and sharp. In fact, the volume of the music was very high everywhere, especially the pool area.

Greg London, the musical impressionist who, apparently opened for Celine Dion and others in Vegas, was just OK. He had a decent voice but didn't really sound like any of the singers he was impersonating.

The most enjoyable and fun entertainment was the last Karaoke night. There were some amazingly talented singers and great performers. The 2 guys who sang the Beatles' "Please, Please Me"; the girl who belted out (while strutting on stage) "I will survive" was incredible. Plus, an amazing "Whitney Houston" singer who could win "American Idol" and a fabulous and hilarious Country singer. It was a wonderful end to the cruise.

Quest was on the last night, too, but it's not our cup of tea so I can't comment on it.

Casino

As usual, the slots on LOS are TIGHT. One guy did win $26,000 at $30 a spin. Aside from a couple of $1,000 wins I didn't hear any other big jackpots. For those who are interested, even the Casino host didn't know what the new Club Royale program will be though he didn't think there would be any more cash rebates -- just free cruises.

Debarkation

It took an hour to get through the entire process which wasn't too terrible.

Would definitely sail LOS again. It's still a beautiful ship.

Great review and thanks for sharing! Is there a must see or do on and off Liberty? What ports did you visit and what did you do?

Looking forward to my time on her next March. Middle hump and deck 9 I believe. I am doing Belize and Cozumel!

We did Belize and Cozumel which we've done several times. We didn't get off the ship in Belize and in Cozumel took a cab ($4 pp) from the dock to the town. Strolled around a bit and then went back to the ship. For us, the ship is pretty much the destination. We love having the pool and hot tubs almost to ourselves on port days. We did the Mayan ruins in Belize before and have taken the ferry from Cozumel to Playa Del Carmen which is a nice little town. But, for the most part, we treat the ship like a floating resort and just relax on the ship on port days.

As I mentioned, you must see the "In the Air" show -- really superb production. Bolero's is a great place, too, if you like Salsa dancing.

Cunuckcruiselover Thank you for the great ideas. I was thinking maybe blue hole in Belize, and then for Cozumel doing a diving tour in am and then heading to Nachi CoCom for lunch pm. I so get that the boat was empty on shore days it was on Brilliance. The ariel show on Vision was also good and I stupidly missed Brilliance show. Thanks again.

Happy cruising!

Have done other cruises and both stay onbd and gone on our own. More fun, don't care for group tours. Had a wreck on 1 in China and a girl broke her finger, glasses and had a gash above her ey that required stitches. Carry our own snorkeling gear and I'm married to an Italian who ignores street vendors like they were bugs. Self tours are loads of fun and you meet the people firsthand and eat some good food beside.

Thanks so much for your review. It is excellent. We are sailing a 5 day cruise on Liberty Jan 17. Can't wait. We are from Canada and we haven't been on a cruise since 2003 (Princess). I was wondering when to be there for boarding. Thanks for answering that question. Cheers! Is the ice rink just for shows or can we skate on it too?

The ice rink is open for guest skating periodically. See the Cruise Compass (daily schedule) for open skating times.

Thanks for your review. We will be sailing in a Junior Suite. Can you tell me what type of coffeemaker is in the cabin?

Thanks!

Linda

We were in 9634 in January. Coffee maker is horrible. They had coffee blocks that were too large for the one cup at a time it makes. I just ran down to promenade with our travel mugs and filled them up after day 1.

Funny you should say that about Greg London. I was so excited to see him on our august 2014 oasis cruise. Rccl billed him as a top performer....I was terribly disappointed. We always look forward to new headliners as we have seen most of them. Glad you had a great cruise.

Thank you for this! I have been wondering how to qualify as I typically spend at LEAST 4 hours a day in the casino. Sadly, $50 a hand is too rich for my blood.
