ThePNVT Posted December 13, 2014 #4 Share Posted December 13, 2014 My husband and I thought it was so worth it. It was really fun to "drink all day" without worrying about how much of a tab we were running up (quite the opposite it was a fun challenge to "meet our quota" of 5 alcoholic drinks per day each.) We drank crazy drinks we would never order at home (or without the pkg) which really added to the fun and value. We had a "drink the rainbow" challenge one sea day which I would have never done without the pkg! (Was fun but there were no purple drinks so we had to invent one!) We thought it was really easy to get our money's worth and weren't ever even "drunk". I could probably credit a nap or two to a lunchtime cocktail ;) but what says vacation more than a NAP (we have kids who were NOT with us ;) )
Justmekaren918 Posted December 13, 2014 #5 Share Posted December 13, 2014 Bill I thought it was worth it, and it was paid for before the trip. I am sure I broke even or better every day. Just one less thing to think about.
jules815 Posted December 13, 2014 #6 Share Posted December 13, 2014 (edited) It was worth it for the cruise that my husband and I took in September, but we took full advantage, not only with alcoholic drinks, but with specialty coffee, bottled waters and fresh squeezed OJ. We almost always had a supply of 4-6 bottled waters in the room. We never thought about it or counted while on the cruise, but looking back, I would say it was worth it. We also made stops in Labadee and Coco Cay, and we could use it there. We paid for it well before the cruise, so we never gave it a thought once we were on board. It was pretty nice. For my next cruise, which is a 5-day on Brilliance, we chose not to because we'll be in a suite and will be able to do our before dinner drinks in the CL. We're getting the Royal Replenish and will pay for anything else as we go. Edited December 13, 2014 by jules815
HardcoreKeith Posted December 13, 2014 #7 Share Posted December 13, 2014 I've drank 3 liters of beer at a German restaurant but I can't justify the price of the unlimited drink packages. I'd like a N beers for $X type of thing like MSC has.
lmares1968 Posted December 13, 2014 #8 Share Posted December 13, 2014 Hard to say if it was worth it as I got sick around day 5 and couldn't even look at a drink. We purchased the premium package and yes we did drink a lot. The first few days. We've booked Allure of the seas in Jan., 2016. I'm not buying drink packages for the next cruise. Pegopolly Posted December 13, 2014 #9 Share Posted December 13, 2014 We had the Premium package on Oasis from Barcelona to Rotterdam, only two ports so lots of sea days. We liked being able to try new cocktails and drinks without thinking about the cost but overall, we didn't get our "monies worth" and would be unlikely to do it again on a more port intensive cruise. Also, although the wines were ok, most of them would not be my choice had they not been included in the package. I appreciate that there is a discount for wine by the bottle when you have a package but in reality we didn't take advantage of that because we felt we had already paid out quite a lot for the package. Baowen Posted December 13, 2014 #10 Share Posted December 13, 2014 Want to do a quick poll of those that bought an alcohol drink package. After your cruise; did you find it was "worth it" or "not worth it". Bill So worth it! It took away the worry about the bottom line amount on that little white piece of paper slipped under the door on the last night! We had mimosas with our breakfast and got to try different drinks that we would not have done if we were paying individual prices. I have already paid for it for our next cruise. :)
screamin400 Posted December 13, 2014 #11 Share Posted December 13, 2014 (edited) I guess for us we look at it a little bit diff. I do not drink but my wife does. We cruise every Feb. The package is one of my Christmas presents to her. Tough for a guy to buy anything that the woman will really like. We have never put a pencil to the total to see if we are ahead or behind. I look at it this way. If she wants wine with dinner and the glasses are small and she has 3 of them that would be 30 plus 4.50 gratuity. If she does find one she does not like she does not drink it. It is like a wine tasting. During that day she can try different drinks she would never have at home without the thought of cost when we get the bill. When on vacation I am not on a business trip so for me it does not have to be a good buy. I am not looking to save $40 dollars one way of the other on the bill. We are on vacation. It has to be tension free. The drink package accomplishes that. Edited December 13, 2014 by screamin400
f1mauro Posted December 13, 2014 #12 Share Posted December 13, 2014 Purchased the Ultimate Package on the Oasis last month. Great value for the money imo. I always started each day with a fresh fruit and vegetable blend at Vitality Cafe leaving the gym, a few San Pellegrino's throughout the day. By the pool, a couple of frozen mojitos, or mixed drinks. A couple glasses of wine through dinner capping off with a specialty coffee, then off to the evening entertainment where I would sip another cocktail. What made it most valuable was the champagne promo this holiday season with the UP. Unlimited glasses of Moet & Chandon ($17/glass) where I easily consumed 3 per day which almost paid for the package alone! The free limited edition champagne bottle in the stateroom was an added bonus, which I ended up bringing home. There are so many venues where you can stop on the ship for a quick beer or cocktail any time of the day or evening which just makes this package so convenient. I also like the idea of paying the difference for drinks which are above the $12 limit. I am reading up on an unlimited drink package on my Princess cruise next month and am reading stories of watered down drinks and $10 limit where any drink $9.99 and below is included. If it's $10 or higher you don't pay the difference, you pay the full cost!!! No thanks. Wouldn't hesitate to purchase the drink package again...even without the champagne holiday promo! rusty nut Posted December 13, 2014 #13 Share Posted December 13, 2014 Tossup. Somewhat worth it. Thought there would be a certain convenience but there wasn't. Stressful thinking about whether you're making the daily "quota". Don't know if I'd do it again.
kleo30 Posted December 13, 2014 #14 Share Posted December 13, 2014 We felt it was worth it. I had the ultimate package and my husband had the premium. I started the day with a mimosa. We had 5 or 6 bottles of water each most days. I had an Americano every day and wine with dinner most nights. We had a LOT of drinks. Two to four around the pool, one or two before dinner, after dinner shots in the dining room, two or more after dinner at a bar. We always took one back to the cabin with us to enjoy on the balcony before bed. Totally worth it, and we'll do it again.
jticarruthers Posted December 13, 2014 #15 Share Posted December 13, 2014 Have tried it on two cruises and thought it was worth it on both, passed on it on two cruises and thought that that was the right decision on those. Very much depends on who we are traveling with and what the itinerary is. On a sea day(and/or private island day) heavy cruise with friends then the package is worth it, on a port heavy cruise with our son, its definitely not. bighairtexan Posted December 13, 2014 #17 Share Posted December 13, 2014 I got the Ultimate on my last cruise. BUt most of my drinking was done in the C/L or D/L or free in the casino through the Casino Royale club. Next time I'll get the Royal Replenish so I can still get my share of sodas, water and Starbucks on the Navigator. I've heard on some ships w/ a "REAL" Starbucks, the coffees aren't included but on the Navigator all the Starbucks drinks were included and every afternoon I'd have 2 frappucinos w/ an extra shot of espresso so I didn't have to take a nap. Relaxing is very taxing you know???
dacsmom Posted December 14, 2014 #18 Share Posted December 14, 2014 Absolutely worth it for me. I had the ultimate package and had many frilly coffees, water, soda, and adult beverages through out the day. I liked it because it was pre-paid and I did not have to face a big bill after the cruise.

zombiehunter Posted December 14, 2014 #20 Share Posted December 14, 2014 Worth it to me because of the flat rate and everything that's included. We did the Premium Package. $55 is NOT hard to drink in a day when it includes bottled water, soda, beer, wine, frozen NA drinks and liquor. A Captain and coke was like $7.50, bottle of water is a couple bucks...it's just nice not to have to think about what I'm spending. It's also nice to go "you know what? I'll try that random drink the bartender suggested" and not worry about liking it. What really grinds me gears though are the people "sharing" the packages. Just jacks up the price for everyone else on board. Even more than that are the passengers who don't even try to hide what they're doing.
Rare Lionesss Posted December 14, 2014 #21 Share Posted December 14, 2014 Worth it for the DH trying new drinks, on Allure. He is doing it again on Oasis. Not sold for me yet ( I get a couple glasses of bubbly in the evening in CL) Sea Ya

Julie Julie - mom to newlyweds Tyler & DIL Michelle (23 and 25), Lauren (21), Jack (17) and Alicia (14) and wife to Derek (awesome funny guy - hub of 25 years in 2014!) It works just like it would at any bar on the ship. For wine, each specialty restaurant tends to have a different wine list, but as long as you order any glass of wine $12 or less, it will be covered under the package and if you order a more expensive glass you'll simply pay the difference. If you want pelegrino, make sure you tell them you have the drink package and they'll bring you the small bottles (which are included) and they'll bring you as many as you want throughout the meal. The large bottles of pelegrino are NOT included in the package. Also, all of the specialty coffees on the dessert menu are covered with the package as well. For 150, the wine pairings are NOT included in the package, however like I mentioned above, you can order any of the wines within that $12 limit off their menu and "make your own pairings". The special cucumber martini at 150 is also not included in the package...however if I remember correctly you can just pay the difference between the $10 cocktail limit for the package and the price of the martini if you want it.
