acadran Posted December 18, 2014 #1 Share Posted December 18, 2014 Carnival just assigned our cruise with a new stop in Amber Cove, Dominican Republic. Coming up empty in my research. From what I am reading it is a brand new port on the north coast of the DR at Puerto Plata due to open in 2014. Our cruise is not until January 2016. Let us know if you dock in Amber Cove and how it is. What kind of excursions are available? We loved LaRomana/Saona Island. Very pleased Carnival switched a day in Nassau for a day in DR. Looking forward to hearing from someone who has docked in Amber Cove.

I haven't found much info as the port isn't open yet to passengers. I did find a website that give a little bit of information, but it seems like they are still working on it. I am also interested in seeing what people have to say about it. It sounds like it is another one of the ports that Carnival has built to suit their ships and it only holds 2 ships at one time. Similar to the one in Honduras. Heres the link to the website I found. http://www.ambercove.com/port-information.aspx
acadran Posted December 20, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted December 20, 2014 Hi Kelley: We're on the Valor January 16, 2016. Yes, I found that website, but thanks for including. Guess we'll have to wait until they open the port and we start to get responses.
kelkel2 Posted December 22, 2014 #4 Share Posted December 22, 2014 I seriously can't wait to see what people start to say about it! Wonder when they will release excursions for our sailings? We don't have anything available for any ports yet? Not even FTTF yet. I've never booked this early so I don't really know what to expect.
BklynLola Posted December 31, 2014 #5 Share Posted December 31, 2014 (edited) I'm planning to book the Victory's 5 day cruise (10/03/2015) that will make stops in Grand Turk and Amber Cove. If I'm correct, it'll be one of the first ships to make the stop in that part of DR. I can't wait!!! :D Edited December 31, 2014 by BklynLola

ron1946 Posted March 24, 2015 #13 Share Posted March 24, 2015 My wife, daughter, SIL and I are on the January 16th Valor cruise. We will be following this thread to see what develops. We normally go with independent tours due to the price of the ship's excursions.
Stateroom_Sailor Posted March 29, 2015 #14 Share Posted March 29, 2015 Nice, we're adding this to our bucket list to combine with Grand Turk and Half Moon, better than visiting Nassau twice. Does anyone know if Carnival is working on any other new ports?
clskinsfan Posted April 7, 2015 #15 Share Posted April 7, 2015 I really hope they use this port as a replacement for Nassau. I actually dont mind San Juan. But Nassau to me and my family is really just a wasted day. I would prefer going to Grand Bahama over Nassau.
rhannah78 Posted April 8, 2015 #16 Share Posted April 8, 2015 We'll be going to Amber Cove Jan 2, 2016 on the Carnival Breeze. Hoping it's better than La Romana. We went there on our last cruise and weren't terribly impressed.
sandij Posted April 11, 2015 #17 Share Posted April 11, 2015 I don't think any ships start calling at Amber Cove until October. Ours is scheduled to go to La Romana, I would love it if they changed it.
winniesbestm8 Posted April 29, 2015 #18 Share Posted April 29, 2015 We sail in New Years Day to Amber cove, nothing up yet with our cruise line for excursions. It is the north side of the island so seas will be rougher on the beaches I think
JOJO351969 Posted May 4, 2015 #19 Share Posted May 4, 2015 My cruise is going to be pulling into port February of 2016. Looking to find some excursions so if anyone learns of any please post them.
Rare crewsweeper Posted May 6, 2015 #20 Share Posted May 6, 2015 Look up Puerto Plata. The city boasts a large aerial tramway. and there are several high end resorts in the area. Amber Cove is near there. A marine park called Ocean World is near there too.
lovebears Posted May 7, 2015 #21 Share Posted May 7, 2015 We arrive in Amber Cove the last week of October. I have been in contact with Marysol Tours and doing their Dune Buggy tour. They pick you up at the port. Several tours offered and great communication through email.
