Looking at the Royal 10 day Southern for Christmas 2015' we sale RCCL and X a lot and sailing NCL Getaway in 30 days for the first time in Aft Penthouse.

Would love info on Penthouse suite and thoughts on amenities as a suite passenger. We select suites on all cruises.

Penthouse R616 is the actual one we are considering.

If there are any threads you know of to direct me too would also be helpful.

Any thoughts, thanks and Happy New Year!

From the Princess website....

The little extras you find in the best hotels — fresh fruit (by request), evening bed turn-down, chocolates on your pillow, complimentary shampoo, conditioner and body lotion — are provided in every stateroom. Waffle weave cloth bathrobes are available upon request from your stateroom steward for your comfort and convenience.

For those of you who wish to enjoy a relaxing drink in the privacy of your stateroom, bottles of liquor and stateroom bar packages are available for purchase at non-duty-free prices through room service. The stateroom directory available onboard lists a complete menu of offerings.

Mini-suites include a welcome glass of champagne, two televisions, a sitting area and a spacious closet, while full suites offer all of these premiums plus amenities such as a DVD/CD player and free access to a DVD library. Full suite guests also enjoy complimentary laundry and dry cleaning, use of the Lotus Spa® Thermal Suite (on select ships, excluding Royal Princess), one-time free mini-bar setup and use of our Disembarkation Lounge.

Each stateroom has other luxuries for your convenience, such as a private safe and refrigerator. In addition, each room is equipped with a 110-volt, 60-cycle alternating current (AC) with standard U.S. plug fittings. Please ask your stateroom steward to check your appliances for suitability before use if you have any questions. All ships are equipped with an electric hair dryer in every stateroom.

The narrow balcony is the biggest drawback in mind when compared to RCCL. The 2 bedroom Villas on NCL also have small balconies. Check out the suite ammenities on each site to see the differences between the different lines.

I choose one of the corner aft suites because of the narrow balcony concern as we spend a lot of time on the balcony.

Having enjoyed the Suite life on all three lines you mentioned, I would say for suite perks it is 1) NCL, 2) RCCL & 3) Princess.

Now... for overall ship preference, it would be 1) RCCL, 2) Princess & 3) NCL.

Lots to consider and it is nice to have choices.

Thanks for the thoughts, we actually have an Aft Penthouse on the Getaway end of January! Never been on NCL but the price and accommodations were fantastic! I agree that some of the suites on NCL have narrow balconies.

RCCL is getting up there in price for the accommodations. Christmas week tends to be high anyway, and yes the kid factor. Reason I was looking at Princess since from what I remember when we sailed Princess the kid factor was not as great.

But like you say, nice to have choices!! ;)

By the way if you live in Seattle, GREAT Town!! I lived there for 4 years back in the day. :D

Thank you very much, sealed the deal for me, no Royal Penthouse Suite for me! :)

For what is being charged and what is given, it seems to just be a larger cabin with a thin balcony.

Onto more searching.

Happy to help - and I only charge 10% of your savings for my fee.:D

When sailing on both the Royal and the Regal, we stayed in a mid-ship mini-suite with the extended balcony.(MA) Didn't have all the perks of a full suite, but it was a nice layout with a privacy curtain to separate the sleeping area and the "living room." It had a bath with a tub and a nice sized balcony. Baja deck was far enough down and our staterooms were far enough forward that "Peeping Toms" on the SeaWalk were not an issue. I've stayed on both Starboard side and Port side under the SeaView Bar. I personally preferred the Starboard side under the SeaWalk, as I could see the sky when I looked up. Under the bar, you see the floor of the bar - looks like a big Frisbee overhead.

Have fun on the Getaway - it looks like a beautiful ship.

(Off topic - Did you enjoy the Reflection? We'd like to sail the Solstice class on our next Celebrity cruise.)
