SunshineCruiser24 Posted January 3, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 3, 2015 I booked through this. Do you provide the proof on check in or what? I work for a small private ambulance company and our ID badges don't have security features, it's just printed on a plain plastic card. I was going to bring my professional license and pay stub as back up to prove my employment as an EMT. This should be fine.... Right?
Clarea Posted January 3, 2015 #2 Share Posted January 3, 2015 There's a very high probability that you will not be asked for any employment ID. However, what you described should be fine.
Elvis1209 Posted January 3, 2015 #3 Share Posted January 3, 2015 Your ID should be fine. I've always had my police ID with me and was never asked to present it. Elvis
edjny Posted January 3, 2015 #4 Share Posted January 3, 2015 I suspect it will be the same as the military discount. We are told to bring along our DD214 to show as proof. I have claimed the discount 4-5 times and never been asked to show the DD214.
sweetlove13 Posted January 4, 2015 #5 Share Posted January 4, 2015 I've gotten the discount twice & neither time been asked to show my work ID. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
SunshineCruiser24 Posted January 4, 2015 Author #6 Share Posted January 4, 2015 Fabulous. I am just slightly paranoid. Thanks [emoji4] so no one has ever had to provide proof that they qualify for the discount?
TravelerThom Posted January 4, 2015 #7 Share Posted January 4, 2015 Fabulous. I am just slightly paranoid. Thanks [emoji4] so no one has ever had to provide proof that they qualify for the discount?Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get you!:D Bring your documentation, but they probably will not ask for it. The one time you don't bring it, will be the time they ask.
Georgeny Posted January 4, 2015 #8 Share Posted January 4, 2015 (edited) Fabulous. I am just slightly paranoid. Thanks [emoji4] so no one has ever had to provide proof that they qualify for the discount? For past Military discount I was required to provide DD214 for Princess and Carnival on file now with them. That was at booking. I will say I redacted portions of the DD214 as simply too much information to provide got no problem from them about that. I don't recall if ever used on RCL however wife and I have used Police discount and never had to provide our credentials. That said, before everyone suddenly jumps on this. There is always a first time. Second I have often found that the discounts were rarely more lucrative than some other discount being offered. Usually you can have this Police etc discount or that normal discount not both and one is as good as another. SunshineCruiser24 Posted January 4, 2015 Author #9 Share Posted January 4, 2015 I had my TA price the cruise both with and without the discount and it was actually cheaper. I know there's always a first. I'm going to take back up documentation just in case my badge isn't official looking enough for them.
Mac303 Posted January 4, 2015 #10 Share Posted January 4, 2015 We have used the discount each time it was available, have been asked to provide the ID card twice.
ZoeyVictoria Posted January 4, 2015 #11 Share Posted January 4, 2015 I qualify for the law enforcement discount even though I am female and sixty-two. I have used the discount three times and never been asked for proof.
TravelerThom Posted January 4, 2015 #12 Share Posted January 4, 2015 To be technical Police/Fire/EMS, Military, Residency and Senior Special Rates are not discounts (eg a $200 Balcony Discount if you are Diamond) but just a different, usually lower, rate available to some. If you booked a cabin at say $900pp, and that cabin is now selling at $1200 but has a EMS Special Rate of $1000, there is NOT a $200 discount that can be applied to your $900 fare. In the past Special Rates were combineable with items (eg shareholder OBC) that could not be combined with discounts, but RCI has been closing most of those "loopholes", so whether it is a discount or Special Rate is becoming moot. SunshineCruiser24 Posted January 4, 2015 Author #13 Share Posted January 4, 2015 I spoke to my TA about something else and he said I have both the resident and EMS rate...
Clarea Posted January 4, 2015 #14 Share Posted January 4, 2015 I spoke to my TA about something else and he said I have both the resident and EMS rate... Things must be changing with Royal's pricing structure. In the past, you could only have one "rate", be it standard, residency, senior, military, or law enforcement. SunshineCruiser24 Posted January 4, 2015 Author #15 Share Posted January 4, 2015 I don't know, maybe my TA is confused. I did have to tell him that the rate DID include EMS not just police and fire.
TravelerThom Posted January 4, 2015 #16 Share Posted January 4, 2015 I spoke to my TA about something else and he said I have both the resident and EMS rate...I would interpret this as meaning that resident and EMS rates are identical (often, but not always, the case). SunshineCruiser24 Posted January 4, 2015 Author #17 Share Posted January 4, 2015 Maybe. But the rate I have is lower than the website when I go through the EMS rate

Biker19 Posted January 4, 2015 #19 Share Posted January 4, 2015 Is this for the 12/6 Freedom sailing? As Bob mentioned the higher discount is likely for being past RCI cruiser.
SunshineCruiser24 Posted January 4, 2015 Author #20 Share Posted January 4, 2015 Yes for 12/6. I upgraded to a PR cabin for only $6 extra
SunshineCruiser24 Posted January 4, 2015 Author #21 Share Posted January 4, 2015 And no I'm not logged in. But when I call they reiterate the fare rules about bringing proof that I qualify for the fare.

SunshineCruiser24 Posted January 4, 2015 Author #23 Share Posted January 4, 2015 SOP. You are booked, have the special rate, and you have your documentation, nothing else needed, you have it covered I get that, but that's why I know it's the EMS rate not a past guest rate, :-)
SunshineCruiser24 Posted January 4, 2015 Author #24 Share Posted January 4, 2015 I've called them quite a few times today. My poor TA!! I upgraded, then didn't like the cabin, then upgraded again...
Biker19 Posted January 4, 2015 #25 Share Posted January 4, 2015 I get that, but that's why I know it's the EMS rate not a past guest rate, :-) If the rate you are getting is lower than on the web site while not logged in, you must be getting some extra discount. I tried it myself and the rate does go even lower than the EMS rate once I log in. Anyway, none of that really matters - as others have said you are unlikely to ever be asked for documents but if you are asked, whatever you bring will be enough.
