Lady Vidora Posted August 26, 2005 #1 Share Posted August 26, 2005 we want to do a 10-day on the sun because we love the itinerary, but we're wondering about whether or not there will be plenty to do on the ship. I've been looking for the patters to get an idea but I can't find any. Does it have golf or mini-golf? I read there are just two pools...is that plenty? (there will just be my DH and I and we're going in November of 06. I had been looking a the caribbean princess, and that seemed like there was a lot to do on that ship. Can you watch movies in a theater? We're not partiers, but we want to have fun!
spongerob Posted August 26, 2005 #2 Share Posted August 26, 2005 Our first cruise was on a Sun-class ship. I was reluctant to book thinking I'd be bored and there would be little to do. I was wrong. We're looking forward to returning to Sun Princess early next year.
regnig Posted August 26, 2005 #3 Share Posted August 26, 2005 There are actually three pools (four if you count the Splash pool on the Sun deck). There are the two main ones on the Rivera deck and then another one aft on Rivera past the spa. They do show movies in the theatre and then repeat them on your in room TV. Lots of planned activities all day long, I doubt you will be bored. On board there is the Princess Links, one of those golf simulators. There are also golf excursions offered at almost all your stops if you want to play ashore. Since this is a 10 day cruise you will find the crowd to be less of the "partying kind". The Sun is one of our favorite ships and we would sail her again in a heart beat.
Rare PescadoAmarillo Posted August 26, 2005 #4 Share Posted August 26, 2005 We did two Sun Princess cruises back to back in December 2003 (also 10 days each). Now, I must admit that we really enjoy sea days in general, but we found the semi-port intensive nature of the 10 day cruise to be perfect...we needed the sea days to recover from all the activities we participate in while in port. Even though the Sun Princess doesn't have the climbing wall and putt putt course we've enjoyed on the Radiance class ship on Royal Caribbean, those things take up maybe an hour on sea days, and we find ourselves spending the rest of the day the same way on ANY ship...I exercise, read by the pool and listen to music; my husband socializes, attends a lot of trivia and other games, and grazes in the buffet. The only thing I really miss on the Sun class ships is an indoor pool for cool or rainy days; however, this point is not enough to keep us from going on the Sea Princess this December, on a 14 night cruise. LisaH Posted August 26, 2005 #5 Share Posted August 26, 2005 We have been on the Sun Class ships 3 times (Sun and Ocean). There is as much to do on those ships as there are the brand new one, except for the mini-golf (which is normally an extra cost I think, climbing wall). There is a golf simulator on the Sun which is an extra cost. You will NOT be bored, plenty of spa activities, gym, bingo, casino, shops, pool games. It is a great itin and I would do it again in a hearbeat. BOOK IT! I highly recommend the mini suites as they are the best and biggest to the best of my knowledge in the entire Princess fleet. Pam in CA Posted August 26, 2005 #6 Share Posted August 26, 2005 I've been on three Sun-class ships (Sun, Ocean and Sea) and one of my favorite spots was the loungers and unorganized activities on the Promenade. Unless you're looking to swim or have to be near a pool, the Promenade is a great place to hang out on loungers and relax. I *never* had a problem finding a lounger on this deck. LisaH Posted August 26, 2005 #7 Share Posted August 26, 2005 Don't you love those teak deck chairs on the Promenade on the Sun...?? They are so classic and I am actually able to fall asleep in them and I can almost NEVER fall asleep sitting up.
Whirlybird Posted August 26, 2005 #8 Share Posted August 26, 2005 We did a 10 day Caribbean itinerary on the Sun last October, and I was skeptical as well about the activities. But with 5 ports over 10 days and all the onboard activities, time just flew by. I really like this size ship and the itineraries offered on her. We are booked on another 10 day Southern Caribbean itinerary this November (over Thanksgiving) and can't wait to get back on the Sun Princess. I think you will be pleased with a cruise on the Sun, I recommend it.
christinelee Posted August 26, 2005 #9 Share Posted August 26, 2005 We have sailed the sun class ships and grand class. Give us the sun everyday..... especiallty if we are just travelling with just each other........ Love is in the air!;)
Druke I Posted August 26, 2005 #10 Share Posted August 26, 2005 Another here who prefers Sun class to the larger Grand class. Lady Vidora - plenty of activities scheduled on sea days - but I for one am often content to find a good deck chair, relax with a good book, and watch the ocean and of course "people watch", always interesting. critterchick Posted August 26, 2005 #11 Share Posted August 26, 2005 I want to try another "true" Sun class (not the Island or Coral, I mean I'm trying the Island, but it seems to be a tweener class of ship, not a real Sun class, oh never mind:eek: ) again, because our first experience on the Sun was a party ship experience that was just nuts. I love those steamer chairs! I'd been trying to get DH to buy a couple for our deck, and he was always skeptical, but after trying them out, we bought two from the company who claims to supply Princess. I don't care whether they do or not - we have a wonderful time pretending we're on a Promenade Deck somewhere in the world!
nomie Posted August 27, 2005 #12 Share Posted August 27, 2005 I am looking into that cruise for Nov 2006 also. I was wondering if a regular cabin with balcony will be big enough. I heard the cabins are smaller on the Sun class. What date are you going? Did you find a roll call yet?
cruiseapril Posted September 7, 2005 #13 Share Posted September 7, 2005 We took a 10 day Sun class cruise- Southern Caribbean- and always had lots and lots of options for activities every day. There were so many choices: poolside activities, computer classes, port discussions, music in several areas, the spa, walking on the promenade, movies, bingo, the casino, shopping, wine tasting, afternoon tea, and soooo much more. cruzzers Posted September 7, 2005 #14 Share Posted September 7, 2005 We did the Sun, 10 day Caribbean last Feb. and we had the time of our lives. There is more to do than you can ever fit in. Enjoy and hope you have even half the fun we did!
calikak Posted September 7, 2005 #15 Share Posted September 7, 2005 I think it really depends who your cruise director is whether or not there are a lot of activities on the sea days. We were on the Golden earlier this year and had lots of sea days (we had 2 ports cancelled, plus the 3 regularly scheduled sea days, on a 10-night cruise) and found the activities to be underwhelming. If you enjoyed bridge, bingo, or art auctions, you were all set; if you didn't, you found yourself bored a lot of the time. However, right after we got off the ship, they got a new cruise director who I hear is absolutely fabulous. Someone who sailed on the Golden the week after us would have said that they had plenty to do on the sea days, whereas we found ourselves bored on the same ship. So, I think it's hard to say whether a particular ship would have enough to do onboard or not, unless you know who the cruise director will be at that time. BigTimeCruiser Posted September 7, 2005 #16 Share Posted September 7, 2005 We did 4 B2B's on the Sun to Alaska. Had a great time and really enjoyed the ship. The Sun class of ships are a good size and easy to navigate your way around. The cabins are smaller on the Sun than on the Grand Class ships and the balconies are cut out of the side of the ship. All in all, we would sail on a Sun class ship again. In fact we are sailing on the Sun again on October 9th.:)
