Gilby1989 Posted January 8, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 8, 2015 Hi. Im coming on the celebrity solstice from the UK for the North Australia tour. Is there a way of getting good money aboard the ship? Il take some Australian dollars but is the ship American dollars? For example can I get Australian dollars and the currency for Bali aboard the Solstice? Thanks
WestLakeGirl Posted January 8, 2015 #2 Share Posted January 8, 2015 There are ATM on board, dispensing USD, but the fee is pretty high, lik $6 per transaction. You can exchange GBP for USD, and you can exchange USD for Australian, (but not sure if you can go direct from pounds to Australian or not) at Guest relations but the conversion isn't very good. Don't ever do this....you pay a double commission because celebrity charges you a hidden 5% on each transaction. Either buy Australian from your bank in the uk....or use an atm in Australia. You do not need any money on board. If you want to tip, just tip in uk or Australian money. Sent from my iPad using Forums

WestLakeGirl Posted January 8, 2015 #5 Share Posted January 8, 2015 You can withdraw USD for a fee of 5%. This will be posted to your SeaPaas account. But how you will pay that account off comes into play then
Rare ghstudio Posted January 8, 2015 #6 Share Posted January 8, 2015 That's one conversion....not two...but you're right, that is the only place you need US dollars. Sent from my iPad using Forums
Gilby1989 Posted January 8, 2015 Author #7 Share Posted January 8, 2015 How much American dollars do you believe you need for a 17 day cruise? This is our first ever cruise so I'm a bit lost with it all. I have a classic beverage package and wont be spending any more money on food or drink. I quite like sound of the casino and my mrs likes to shop, do you need cash for this or can you pay at the end of the cruise with your card? WestLakeGirl Posted January 8, 2015 #8 Share Posted January 8, 2015 The shop purchases to on your SeaPass account. So do slot machines. There are some cash gambling tables but basically everything you buy or do on the ship goes on your shipboard account
Rare ghstudio Posted January 8, 2015 #9 Share Posted January 8, 2015 Just to be clear...other than the casino, cash is not accepted anywhere on board. Everything must go on your sea card. You can pay cash towards your sea pass bill at guest services or just let that bill be charged to your credit card. If you don't gamble at the casino tables, the only cash you need on board is for additional tips over and above the standard gratuities and that can be in any currency. Gilby1989 Posted January 8, 2015 Author #10 Share Posted January 8, 2015 (edited) Are there charges for the debit card when you pay at the end? I take it you can use a debit card :/ Sent from my SM-N910F using Forums mobile app Edited January 8, 2015 by Gilby1989
jveevers Posted January 8, 2015 #11 Share Posted January 8, 2015 I had AUD$ cash on the Equinox a nd wanted to exchange for EURO as was Med cruise. They would only exchange to US $ and then sell me EURO from US$. If just Bali you are concerned about, it is very easy to exchange any currency on the Island ( I have been there a dozen times)
QE2_Fan Posted January 8, 2015 #12 Share Posted January 8, 2015 Are there charges for the debit card when you pay at the end? I take it you can use a debit card :/ Sent from my SM-N910F using Forums mobile app Yes they will accept a debit card if it is Visa or Mastercard etc. But be careful as they will put thru regular authorisation 'holds' against debit cards for the amount of your current onboard account balance , which may end up appearing like they have double charged you...these holds can take some time to be removed from the card. Don't believe this is an issue for an actual credit card. Enjoy your cruise...you ve done well for your first one!! TravelerThom Posted January 8, 2015 #13 Share Posted January 8, 2015 The shop purchases to on your SeaPass account. So do slot machines. There are some cash gambling tables but basically everything you buy or do on the ship goes on your shipboard accountThe only way I have seen the slots on Celebrity funded was by insert cash (or pay-out voucher from another machine) into the machine. As far as I know the only way for slot machine play to end up on your SeaPass is to go to the cashier and get a cash advance (with a 5% surcharge), and then take that cash to a slot machine. You can stick your SeaPass into the slot machine, but this is strictly for tracking your play, and is not purchasing action on the machine. All bets at table games operated by humans (there are computerized table games, not talking about them) are made by placing chips on the table; these chips may be purchased at the table using either cash from your pocket or charged against your SeaPass with a 5% surcharge. sandancer Posted January 8, 2015 #14 Share Posted January 8, 2015 Hi. Im coming on the celebrity solstice from the UK for the North Australia tour. Is there a way of getting good money aboard the ship? Il take some Australian dollars but is the ship American dollars? For example can I get Australian dollars and the currency for Bali aboard the Solstice? Thanks Take some US dollars with you. The rate you will get from M&S or The Money Shop will be much better than you'll get onboard. You can get currency for Bali at an exchange office when you arrive there. I think you will be best to exchange US$ as the £ may not be as easy. Likewise you don't need Aus$. There are ATMs everywhere. I am very jealous. We spent 6 weeks on the Solstice last year and it was just amazing. You could not have chosen a better ship for your first cruise. Enjoy. Gilby1989 Posted January 8, 2015 Author #15 Share Posted January 8, 2015 Regarding the purchases on the ship being settled at the end by cash or card, is there anything like a preloaded card you can put cash on before the trip and it'll be taken off that? Thanks for your responses Sent from my SM-N910F using Forums mobile app

Rare cruisestitch Posted January 10, 2015 #17 Share Posted January 10, 2015 All charges on the ship are in US dollars, no matter where in the world you are.
