Cable car from port

We are going to Alcatraz in the early AM and then hope to hop on a cable car somewhere near pier 27 (where we are docked) or pier 33 which is where the Alcatraz ferry is located. How far are the cable car lines from these piers? Which one is the "best quick" trip of San Francisco?

which shows the Powell/Mason Line to be closest, 6-8 blocks away. None are a quick tour, but you could hop around on them for a while.

At $6 a ride... do you need a return trip? If you do more than 2 rides.... get the day pass for $15 for better value.
