Bcshur Posted January 18, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 18, 2015 Does anyone have any input to this? As of now we are thinking we need to take the cable car to Thira and then get a cab to Santo Winery? Does anyone have any input on this or an easier way? Rare Hlitner Posted January 21, 2015 #2 Share Posted January 21, 2015 Hmmm. You might want to consider renting a car (they are pretty inexpensive on the island if you can drive a stick shift) instead of using a taxi. The car will allow you to go at your own pace, visit more then one winery, and see other parts of the island. Driving on Santorini is relatively easy and maximizes flexibility for the least cost. The only down side is that the driver needs to truly "taste" wine rather then gulp it :) Hank
prish Posted January 24, 2015 #3 Share Posted January 24, 2015 Renting a car is a good idea, this is what we did last June. DH was designated driver, but luckily the Santo wines weren't dry enough for his taste. We rented from Tony's, 35 euros for a mid-size stick shift. It took us a while to find his place in Fira, even though he sent us a map, but apart from that everything went well. Bcshur Posted January 25, 2015 Author #4 Share Posted January 25, 2015 Love it! Thanks for the feedback, that is what we were considering. But then we would need to watch ourselves closely as far as drinking and driving. Not that we would be gulping wine, but we are wine lovers and we would be in Santorini! :) Does anyone know of any drivers or tour companies? roothy123 Posted February 6, 2015 #5 Share Posted February 6, 2015 (edited) Don't know of drivers, as we seldom hire them. However, back in 2006 we rented a quad (4 wheel ATV) in Santorini and had a good time toodling around the northern half of the island! Agree with others who say it's easy to drive on the island. You do, however, need an int'l driver's license, at least for a car. We'll probably just get a small rental car this time. If your primary goal is to get to Santo, you might want to just take a cab and then spend some time in Fira before taking the car back. It has some pretty churches if nothing else!
