travler27 Posted January 23, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 23, 2015 I've often thought it would be nice to go to a port and stay 3-4 days then on to another port for 3-4 days and the back to the port of departure. That would give lots of time to see and do things in the port cities and countries. Seems it would be good for the cruise lines too as they would save fuel bucks. Do any lines offer that kind of trip and if not why not?

And the 7th day lost in the Bermuda triangle. :D I think Bermuda and maybe the Bahamas are the only ports I've ever heard of ships staying overnight. Cozumel, Monaco, Galveston (as a homeport), St. Maarten, San Juan, New York, Venice, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Lima, Sydney, Fuerte Amador, Papeete, Sherrard Islands (anchored), Hong Kong (two or three days typically), Da Nang, Singapore, Barcelona and others. The fuel savings would be eaten into by increased port fees, plus you're still burning fuel to keep the lights lit. While the ticket price generally covers the overhead for the ship, it is the onboard revenue (drinks, shore ex, casino, shops, etc., and mainly the drinks and casino) that provides the profit. The more time in port, the less onboard revenue. Many instances of overnight port stays, but not that many, if any 3-4 day stays.
