US port tax on drinks

On Carnival with their drink package the first day if you are boarding in a US port,you pay the tax on drinks until you are in international waters. Does Celebrity do this?

Never heard of this. I boarded two cruises in Fort Lauderdale on Celebrity ships. Had beverage package both times and had drinks before sailaway, no problem!

On Celebrity, you will find that they will create a paper ticket for your drink, but they will not run it through the register until after the ship has entered international waters. This also takes place in certain European ports.

 

There are a few European itineraries where they must charge certain taxes because the ship never leaves the EU, but usually you will find, if you make an on-board purchase, there is a substitute, hand-written receipt given to you, not the usual register-generated one.
