jobowl Posted February 2, 2015 #1 Share Posted February 2, 2015 FYI I found this out by accident. Some of you probably knew this. Anyway I didn't and thought it worth mentioning. When you dead bolt your door in your cabin your card will still open your door. The dead bolt will snap right over. I found this out on the Explorer. Not sure if all ships will do this. anandaindonesia Posted February 2, 2015 #2 Share Posted February 2, 2015 Yes. All ships. Just remember to put the "Do Not Disturb" sign on.
jobowl Posted February 2, 2015 Author #3 Share Posted February 2, 2015 makes you wonder what good is the dead bolt?
Rare Cruisehappymn Posted February 2, 2015 #4 Share Posted February 2, 2015 makes you wonder what good is the dead bolt? Good to know. Thanks. I suppose in case of emergency, they don't have to break the door down.
anandaindonesia Posted February 2, 2015 #5 Share Posted February 2, 2015 [emoji4] the dead bolt is to prevent all others entering your cabin. Except your cabin attendant, that is. The "Do Not Disturb" sign is stronger than the dead bolt. [emoji4]
ryano Posted February 2, 2015 #6 Share Posted February 2, 2015 Probably true for your Seapass and others in your cabin. That said, I believe only a RCI security keycard will open a dead bolted door. A cabin attendants card will not. Someone can correct me if Im wrong.

I believe for RCI, that the cabin steward's cards will not override the deadbolt. Not only does security have "master cards", but there is a set of cards that are given out to crew during an emergency, so that all guest cabins are verified as empty, but these are generally kept in the HD's safe or on the bridge. HAL is different, from what I hear, that they didn't want to go with the second set of cards for the evacuation teams, so the cabin stewards' cards will override the deadbolt.
