NOOOOOOOOO. Given them oasis. I want the waterside ship here in the Caribbean first.

Adam says China does not want the ship ships!

“The Chinese want the best of everything in life, and we couldn't hide our new ships on the other side of the world.”

Fine, but that doesn't mean that every new Royal Caribbean ship needs to be sent to China. After all, they're getting Quantum in June!!!

USD 80 Million for adjusting Quantum to the Asian market is impossible. What for changes can be done; Adding some more Luxury Brand flagship stores / products, squishing in more slot machines and tables to the casino, adjusting dynamic dining, removing the majority of the outdoor deck chairs (Chinese don't like sun), adding new shows and changing the signage to both English and Chinese definitely no, someone has been mistaken by 2 or 3 too many zeros.

Like I said, it is word of mouth and an article on some cruise sight I cannot find. While unbelievable, it is also believable.

I normally don't read these articles, but I just went through this one:

http://www.cruisecritic.com/news/news.cfm?ID=6210

The potential to develop other parts of South East Asia as cruise destinations was “limitless”, Goldstein said.

Well, to me this is very clear... he does not say that Florida needs 2 more mega ships, or Europe needs more ships... he unequivocally says RCI has to put their ships where the highest profits are, with Asia being "limitless".

To me this adds more weight to Oasis heading over there sooner rather than later. Anyone see anything interesting ( a change, an addition??) on the Asia/Oz port schedules lately that might support this?

Agree. Summary of the current Sydney port entries that may indicate an additional ship coming to Australia in 2016/2017 are as follows:

- Entries for Celebrity Solstice when she is actually in Singapore for dry dock.

- Entries for an Azamara ship that is nowhere nearby at the time.

- Entries for Explorer and Voyager that are well in excess of expected number of port calls given usual itineraries for these ships.

These entries have been in the Sydney OPT cruise calender for months now and most importantly, they have not been removed.

In addition, Navigator and Oasis appear in the Singapore cruise schedule without specific call dates.

http://www.sydneyports.com.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0015/32109/Passenger_Vessel_Schedule_Final_v342_18_Feb_2015.pdf

I think the likely explanations are either:

- An extra ship is coming to Australia, or

- Royal is just hogging port entries while they confirm itineraries for the existing ships.

There is a great deal of promotional activity here right now from both Royal & Princess. Princess is adding Emerald to the local fleet, I think Royal are likely to add seasonal capacity too.

I do not think it was just coincidence that MSC released a video with information on their two, 7 ship, over 35000 berth Vista and Seaside projects that clearly take the best features of Oasis and Quantum Class along with the NCL Breakaway and Breakaway Plus classes just the day after RCI released some information on Harmony.

http://www.cruiseindustrynews.com/cruise-news/12272-msc-releases-video-detailing-new-ship-features.html

The fact that they most likely plan to position these at price points under those currently offered by RCI and NCL must also be troubling for the execs at both companies.

They sort of give it away for the Seaside project stating, "The ships that follow the sun" I guess Oasis class would be in this same class of ship.

I would think that speculation on where MSC plan to deploy these 7 megaships might also influence RCI deployment.

I think most only consider individual travelers when thinking about deployment, but I think it is more important to consider where the corporate meeting and incentive market want these new ships as they are going to need group business to fill all these cabins.

Maybe Australia with such high market penetration can support a ship like this in the future, I do not know enough about the market to know.

I agree completely! I mean, the video almost over-eggs the features which are quite obviously the ideas debuted on NCL and RCCL (and Carnival). They really have declared war on the big lines, and why not, I do feel recently that Royal in particular need to up their game a bit - yes the new ships are lovely but they need to push themselves. That equally comes down to deployment.

I have found only this list of Marina Bay, Singapore, that implies that Oasis might switch to Asia in near future: http://mbccs.com.sg/

Just scroll down the dropdown list - but currently there are no dates listed for Oasis - and Navigator is listed there as well.

But I am wondering when RCI intends to send Oasis to Asia? After Harmony's Europe season, ending in fall 2016, when she is likely to head to Florida??

For all we know, Oasis could come much earlier say end this year or start of next year. Look at Quantum. She's sailing out of Singapore June 12th and June 15th which we all know but dates for MBCCS have not been posted on the port schedule. Hmmm....

End of this year I personally do not believe since one can book her up to April 2016.

Maybe April/May 2016 and doing a similar repositioning with her as RCI has done with Mariner: Transatlantic, Suez and Middle East and than Singapore.

Or in fall 2016, when Harmony takes over her place in Florida. Repo I could imagine as mentioned above...

Geoff, I once read a while ago, that when shipping companies reserve a berth they are required to pay a non refundable deposit. Do you know if this is true with Sydney. If so, then one can assume additional deployments down here.

I don't know woodscruise, but it is likely that the Sydney port authority collects money at every opportunity, including a terminal booking. If there is a non refundable fee, the amount of that fee would determine appetite for cruise lines to book knowing they may need to cancel. Anyone else have some knowledge of these matters?

Thanks for sharing this information MADflyer.

MSC Orchestra is visiting Sydney soon (March I think). The design of their 7 new ships appears to target warm, sunny climates. I can't imagine they can profitably deploy this much additional capacity without entering new markets. Maybe some of their older ships will be sold/retired.

The Australian cruise market is a lot like the Caribeean (we cruise both) - warm weather, active-outdoor, pool & water sports, scenic destinations and tropical islands.. Cruises are generally longer, mostly 8 to 14 days because of the distances to destinations and also because Australians receive 4 weeks paid annual leave. [emoji3]

The new MSC prototypes, especially Seaside, look innovative and exciting. It seems almost certain at this point that at least one will end up in South Florida, and when it does I will seriously consider it... Especially if RCI proves to be more interested in chasing hypothetical market expansion in Asia than keeping a fresh product in the Caribbean.

I agree. I get it, Royal wants to put their ships in markets where they can make the most $$$, but that doesn't mean that they should completely deprive the Florida market of new ships. If Harmony, or at least Ovation, doesn't come to Florida, people will definitely start straying a way from Royal. They'll start gradually losing the Florida market, even if they still have Oasis and Allure.

I'd much rather see them send Oasis to Asia, and keep Harmony in Florida, which is exactly what I think they'll do.

When I attended the Nov 23 inaugural Captain's Corner they were asked about how the ship would be changed for the Asian market the Captain said 17 million dollars of renovations.

It is on this video about the 21 minute mark and the hotel director also speaks of the changes they will be making

So what ships will probably sail from New York/Cape Liberty in May 2016-August 2016?

I would also like to know this. We are looking for a family cruise out of CL in July 2016.

Wow... NCL Breakaway/Escape, Costa's new ships, Carnival's new mega ships, a third and 4th Oasis to sail where, in the Caribbean... Nassau again? This is just reeking like the overbuilding of condos and the incredible glut of real estate and plummeting values in the recent decade. Way too many berths, too many big ships... all they need is a global downturn of sorts in the economy just like every other market or commodity experiences over time. I just can't see this being if, but when. Am I off base?

Maybe, but the ships can be moved if needed, and condos can't

My guess for Cape Liberty is Anthem, if the Bermuda channel gets dredged on time... and yes, I personally see Royal doing the 5 night Bermuda and the 9 night Caribbean and/or Canada/NE runs...

Or MAYBE Ovation, but I see her rather switching to Florida...

I can't imagine why they would go to the trouble of swapping Anthem for Ovation. Anthem staying and Ovation heading to Florida makes much more sense.
