San Juan Hotel Row and beach

We will be on the Westerdam in March.

We would like to visit a beach and enjoy a walk along the shore and restaurant fare at a hotel on the way. Is there a recommended hotel to start or dine or use the beach?

How far is it for a taxi ride from the port?

Thank you for your ideas and opinions. I posted this in the port area, but thought someone might have ideas in the forum.

Best area for beaches in San Juan is Isla Verde. In the section, you will find Intercontinental Hotel, El San Juan Resort and Casino, The Ritz and others.

Beach that abust these hotels is lovely.

It varies largely by traffic but you should plan at least 20 minute taxi ride.

We had one of our best dinners ever at Trois Cent Onze (311) in San Juan a few years back. It is walkable from the Port - in fact after dinner we walked back there to see the ships sail out before going back to our hotel in old San Juan. We had a reservation for a couple of years later but our call in SJU was cancelled. :( So we are still trying to get back there!

I agree, the beach at the Intercontinental Hotel is very nice and good for a nice walk.

The Condado area has lots of hotels and is right on the beach. It would be possible, I suppose, to walk to the docks but I don't personally think it would be a good idea. It is a short cab ride away. Not too far from the airport either.

My memory of Condado Beach it is quite small serving a lot of hotel guests/cruise passengers.

If it weren't for the fact the DFIL was on our last cruise, our "excursion" would have been a taxi to the Ritz Carlton for some of their frozen mojitos. They're the best we've ever had - and trust me, we've got squads of people researching this stuff.

The beach is nice, too.

The Trois Cent Once (311) is a 10 minute walk from pier and not by a beach. We had dinner there in December and loved it. Highly recommend. As for a nice beach - as S7S stated Isla Verda ! It was a 21 cab ride including a tip. Wish we had heard about the mojitos...next time I guess :D

I like your style. ;)

We once booked a room at The Ritz for when we got off the ship and had a 6 P.M. flight home. DH booked for the night before, told them we would be an early morning check in and to not mark us as 'no shows'. We arrived at the hotel about 8:30, went immediately to our room, had a fantastic day at the hotel, had late 4:30 check out and went to the airport all showered, rested and having spent a glorious day. :) The airport is so near the hotel it seemed a 'good choice'. :D :D
