grimmy35 Posted February 8, 2015 #1 Share Posted February 8, 2015 We are leaving from Baltimore and are considering different options. Either driving up to New York and just parking at the port for about $40 / day - which is pricey, but perhaps the easiest way to do it. We have considered renting a car, but would need shuttle service from the car rental drop off in New York to the port - does anyone know of any locations that do this? Or perhaps staying at a hotel in New York that would provide shuttle service and allow us to park our car at the hotel. Any options there?
megr1125 Posted February 8, 2015 #2 Share Posted February 8, 2015 No hotel in NYC will allow you to park there while on a cruise, and none have shuttles. Take Amtrak, find a hotel and get a cab. You can use some of the bidding sites to get a lower price if you want..... Come up with a budget, let us know dates and maybe we can give more guidance.... ldohe Posted February 8, 2015 #3 Share Posted February 8, 2015 My experience after cruising out of NYC multiple times is that most alternatives aren't worth the hassle and you don't save very much money if any at all. Paying the $280 to park for the week is more economical than train (would cost $90/person from Philly), hotel, cab, meal, etc. I am too nervous to try Megabus/Bolt Bus the day of. If anyone else has any ideas, please let me know!
Rare mskaufman Posted February 8, 2015 #4 Share Posted February 8, 2015 A low cost way to go is to have someone drop you off at the Megabus in White Marsh and when you get to NY take a taxi.
bassclarinetgrl Posted February 8, 2015 #5 Share Posted February 8, 2015 We're having the same thoughts right now, but we would be driving from Michigan. We did the math and it would be about $80 in gas. But with $40/night to park for an 8 night cruise, it seems like it might be cheaper to fly. 138east Posted February 8, 2015 #6 Share Posted February 8, 2015 If you're driving to the port, it's possible to park at Port Imperial in Weehawken for $15/day, take the ferry to 39th street in Manhattan for $9/pp each way, and either walk in take a short cab ride up 12th Ave to the pier. If you're coming from the west and need a hotel, look at the Parsipanny NJ area. On the weekend Hotwire usually has great deals on nice 3*+ hotels in that area.
