3 in a room for 4??

DH and I are the only 2 booked in a room with 2 uppers on the Dream for a late Aug cruise.

Our local casino "gave" us the cruise with a very short window of time to book and the cruise had to be started by Aug 31. They even gave us a carnival "book" with all the boats/ports/dates....etc. (I thought the books were no longer being printed?) Anyways, we were given a free 4A, but could upgrade for a nominal fee. When I called in to ask how much I would have to pay for an inside on Deck 10, specifically room 10251 or 10250 as I wanted something close to the elevators, the rep told me she could not book me in 10251 or 10250 as they were handicap rooms but we could have 10255 or 10254 right next to either one that I wanted. I told her that both of those had 2 uppers and it was just going to be the 2 of us and we wouldn't need the uppers, she said that was fine, we didn't have to use them and nothing would be in our way if we left everything in its put up position......so I said what the heck, ok, we'll take one of those then.

Now after being on cruise critic for a year, I know that CCL can indeed still move me if they need that room for a 4 person booking but I will get something for being moved.....maybe only a bottle of wine. Doesn't matter, I'll be on a boat in the middle of the ocean, drink with an umbrella in my hand and a smile on my face. :D

My family does an annual cruise that I was in charge of booking. My sister and her husband have 5 young children. They need 3 and 4 person cabins side by side. The cruise we were looking at booking had two 4 person cabins side by side, but not 3 and 4 person cabins. I was told if we wanted to book the two 4 person cabins for only 7 people, we would have to pay for 8 people.

I never, ever knew that...good to know.

That's not true at all and we've never had to pay for extra people. We are only two people and have booked cabins that had a higher occupancy level. We just booked a cruise last night and it has an occupancy level of four and we had no problem. It just came up as available to book so we did. I don't even pay attention to the official occupancy level. The only time it would make a difference was if I actually had 3 or 4 people then you have to have a cabin that would accommodate that many. I just pick cabins based on location and don't bother with the rest.

Just because you were able to book a 4 person cabin for 2 people doesn't mean I am lying. Be prepared for Carnival to move you if they need that 4 person cabin.

I called 2 different PVPs and they both said the same thing about not being able to book 3 people in a 4 person. I then went online and tried booking the cabins. The 4 person cabins weren't even showing up when I tried booking for 3 people.

We were looking to book a cruise in the summer where 3 and 4 person cabins are at a premium, so that may have had something to do Carnival not letting us book 3 people in a 4 person cabin without paying extra.

The thing is, if you plug in only 2 passengers, cabins for 3 or 4 shouldn't even come up as an available cabin to book. Not unless it's closer to the sailing date once Carnival relaxes the occupancy restrictions. I have heard of people doing this here and there, but I don't see how you can if you're reserving far out. I'm hoping to move to a certain deck on the Sunshine. All of the cabins in that area are triples or quads. We're patiently waiting for time to pass as I know based on past experience, within a few months they will allow two people to book them if they aren't sold by then.

Yes, Carnival will move you if you underbook a room...but they cannot downgrade you during the move and if you have 3 peeps they need to find you a room in your category or above that will accommodate you.

And, just my very personal opinion, I believe Carnival does treat their early bookers fairly. The ONLY rooms I would think they would constantly switch would be if someone booked an accessible room with no need to do so. My 2 cents.
