Imax Theatre...

Am I the only one who thinks this may not ne as successful as they hope considering the fee for it? Can't see having to pay to watch a movie when you can go to Lido and watch one. Also, will this effect the Seaside Theatre?

If the IMAX really is showing first run movies, while Lido is showing older movies, it will do ok. Im not saying I would go see a movie, cuz I prolly won't, unless there is a rainy day or something, I spend my time in the sun.

I don't see this being very popular with the European itineraries given how port intensive they are, but perhaps later when there are more sea days? I don't know that I would pay a fee to see a movie onboard, even a first run movie.

I asked my teen and she says, "Maybe." I can see teens and the young adults going and hanging out in the theatre.

Next cruise: Carnival Vista - July 2016

I know they wanted to be more innovative hence an IMAX but I don't go to them on land and will probably not on the sea either. I just don't like the IMAX experience with the screen the way it is. Makes me nauseous. If there is really a movie I want to see while I am on vacation I'll just wait until I get home and go to my local theatre which will probably cost less as well.

I think my wife and 3 kids like movies more the going on a cruise.

I'm really hoping they only show 1 movie per cruise on the IMAX.

My 3 kids have never spent (cumulatively) more than $25 dollars on a cruise. As a matter of fact my middle daughter, other than a few forced t-shirts my wife made her buy, has a total spend in all of her cruises of $1.13 at Cherry on Top.

With the IMAX, that's going to change

Edit: BTW, my wife made me go to "The Imitation Game" this past weekend. It was very good.

At what price point does it seem desirable? $10? I know Imax is expensive, but I cant see spending $100 on my family seeing a moie when we're on a cruise.

yeah i don't think it should be more than $10.00.

they said prices will vary depending on the kind of content (like documentary vs. first run movie) and that it would be less expensive than comparable options on land. as typically they're in the range of $15-20 or so, i'd expect $10 to be a happy medium.

just as a point of reference thrill theater is 7.95 for one movie or 14.95 for the length of the cruise.

That's why I think it will be quite a bit more than $10. If a 20 minute or so Thrill Theater movie is $8 then a 1st run regular length movie on IMAX will likely be quite a bit more. Hope I'm wrong but I'd guess the pricing will be land like or a little more.

all we really have to go off of in terms of pricing (that i'm aware of) is what was said in the interview with cruise critic:

"Pricing for IMAX is tiered and varies by film, with current films costing more than museum-style documentaries, Tamis told Cruise Critic. Prices will be less than on land, he added."

since i think most imax prices on land are in the range of $15 or so, i expect it'd be closer to the $10 range. but what do i know lol :)

While the price is good compared to land $10 compared to £13 ($19) I do not cruise to watch films. I have only sailed on a ship without the big screen and did not desire it.

Even if it rains I will probably still be in the pool as that is the British way. :D

On our last cruise my Yorkshire husband insisted on going in the outdoor pool when it was 1°C outside. I ventured into the hot tub, which seemed like a great idea until it was time to get out

I just like that there continues to be opportunities for different experiences. I remember back about 15 years ago when it was much more limited. It's truly becoming a destination in and of itself. No longer a floating casino.

Haha I was born just below Yorkshire...in Derbyshire.

On our Baltic cruise I had the pool to myself and got called Polar bear by my husband then when the lovely hot Panama Canal rain came on our next cruise he and I remained in the pool while almost everyone else ran for cover. :D
