Gratuities going up...minimally

When you order a drink there is an added 18% cost. There is no need to tip them extra unless you want to. Lots do give an additional $1.00. However, I don't believe they share in the DSC since I consider them bar staff and not Waiters/waitresses.

yeah, that's what I thought about the casino waitresses.

I have a free drink card at the casino. I tip a $1.

just found out this past trip that the ultimate beverage package includes tips.

does the casino drink card also include tips?

Yes, however, I still tip an extra $1.00

I cruised in 2001 with NCL. We paid one fee for gratuities. I can't recall at this point if it was paid up front, or at the end, but either way it was a flat per day calculated fee exactly the same as it is now. Didn't tip once (other than drinks) on the cruise as we were advised that the tips wouldn't be accepted due to the daily gratuity calculation.

My first cruise was for our 10th anniversary on NCL. It was 10 years, and 2 months ago. The DSC was in place at that time.

My understanding is that the casino drink card does not include tips. When you have the UBP a chit is generated and you have to sign for, you can clearly see the tip listed. In the casino you just give them your card and you do not have to sign therefore you are not shown a tip being processed. When I first got a drink card I asked the casino host and they told me that it was not included and that it would be appreciated by the servers if I did give something. I always tip atleast $1 in the casino.

And I always thought it was. No real difference to me since I always give $1.00 anyway. I'm not a big drinker so once in a while it's a mudslide but usually it's a bottle of water! The Casino doesn't lose money with my drink card! LOL

No unfortunately it does not. If you have a casino drink card you can use that to get your bottled water and your UBP to get anything, especially as we know for certain that it includes a gratuity for the server.

lol.. if u have the casino drink card, why in the world would you choose the ubp over the udp?

unless u reeeeeeeaaaaaly want expensive drinks?

(the lowest level casino drink card acts like a $5 discount for higher class drinks.)

The casino drink card is only good for drinks in the casino. The UBP means I can have a mimosa or bloody cesear with breakfast. Wine with lunch or dinner. Almost any beverage of my choosing while the ship is docked. Drinks at the shows or in a lounge. A cocktail by the pool. A beer with my fish and chips. I can have a complimentary drink anywhere I want. The higher end drinks are also not an issue as I am Golden so there is plenty to choose from at the Premium level.

I was able to pick two as my next cruises are all Europe. I chose UBP and $200 OBC.

I receive specialty dinners with bottles of wine from the casino and for my Platinum status. Even if I go every night to a specialty restaurant I would still be ahead with the OBC and the UBP means I have no worries about other charges.

It works for me.

No, the UBP does not include water. I usually always get a few bottles a day from CAS with my card and bring them back to the room to stock the fridge.

Which, BTW, to me is strange because I'd think bottles of water costs NCL less than a drink would! LOL

Yes, so the profit margin on bottled water is a lot better for them. A bottle of water costs about the same as a bottle of beer. They'd much rather give you the beer for free and make you buy the water than the other way around.

OTOH, people can bring bottled water for free so don't actually have to buy it. Beer they can't and must buy it.

Wish I lived in a place where beer cost the same as a bottle of water. Around here a case of 24 water is $1.99 whereas a case of beer is more like 40 bucks!!
